Video problems

Hi, i created an account here for a slight problem with one of my ff viii disc (the number one actually) :
during a video (the one when you arrive in galbadia university) the video freezes. The cd is probably damaged, but everything else works.
whatever my question is :
is it possible to skip the videos?
so i can skip this one, go on in the game and hopefully manage to get to disc 2 wich seems to be in better shape?

i looked everywhere i could for that questions and no answers... this forum is the first i found wich is still active (on others the last thread is at least 2 years old :D)
so please, just a yes or no, to know if i let go right now and start working a bit!

Is this a PS1 or PS2? It could possibly make a difference.

In FFIX one way that I could find to skip the CGs on a PS1 was to open up the top. This won't work with a PS2, obviously, because opening up the drive in the middle of a game, as far as I know, will reset the machine. I learned this from trying to complete FFIX in time to get the Excalibur II. Still didn't get there quick enough. I was 17 seconds late.
