They're all so self-absorbed and shallow, and most of them can't sing very well.

Discuss.

Discuss further.

You can't manufacture a miracle. And no, I'm not quoting that spiky haired ponce Robbie Williams.

I hate pop 'stars', and I hate pop 'music'. It's all so 1985...

But, rainecloud, 80s pop music was actually decent.

I don't know any personally, so I'm not going to judge them, in terms of being shallow at least. Some of them can sing, some of them not so well. Some pop is annoying, but a lot of it is just fun.

Simpering mawkish cack.

Gawd, it felt good to use those words again.

EDIT : Pop music is popular music, and hence in this sense I'm referring to current popular music, I liked the popular music of yesteryear when it was really music, by people with talent.

does thom yorke count as a pop star?

Leeza

Haha....no. Thom Yorke is cool. :)

Thom Yorke rocks, especially because of his involvement in the Knifin Around episode of Space Ghost Coast to Coast.

I consider pop stars to be the people that young teens frequently obsess over. Britney Spears, Avril Lavinge (though we havent heard much from her lately, praise God), and such like that... though I intentionally ignore the stuff so what I list may not be relevant.

Anyway, pop stars themselves are usually annoying enough, but the worst is the frenzy of media and fan attention. The other day Beyonce's sister or cousin or dog got married and it superceeded news stories about terroist attacks and things that actually MATTER.

I DONT CARE WHAT BRITNEY SPEARS HAD FOR BREAKFAST, UNLESS IT WAS ARSENIC.

I hate all Pop music, and "Pop shows"...I cannot tell you how much I hate people asking on my file sharing program "Is the new *insert stupid show* on here yet???". Show's I'm talking about are:
-The Aprentice
-The Newly Weds
-The Simple Life
-The Gilmour Girls
-The O.C.
-Friends (I'll be glad when he season finally does happen when they all get Anthrax)

I hate the way anything almost everything is very fake. And the music is very blah.

Pop stars cannot be pop stars if they can't sing. They must have reached a certain standared to be very famous.

Not really. Their image is far more important to their sales than their vocal abilities.

Just because someone has a good voice doesn't mean the song they sing is good.

I like 80s music.. it's never gonna be the same.

Everyone can sound good in the studio and no-one sings live anymore. (when it comes to pop.)
Everyone just lipsinc so they can dance better.

That's why pop-music is all about their appearance and coreography(sp?).

I hate it when people who like to think they're music connoisseurs sit around and rip on anything that's popular just because they can. <i>"I'm cool,"</i> they like to say, <i>"because I'm DIFFERENT! I listen to PUNK! Which is way cooler than dumb old POP!"</i>

Well, damn. There's good stuff and bad stuff in ALL genres. I refuse to be so fake and controlled by the tastes of other people that I will or won't like something because other people do or don't. I can't stand Britney Spears, but I also can't stand half of the screaming disgruntled teenagers out there who wrote a doggerel poem and own a guitar and thus think that they're an awesome punk band/rock band/whatever. Music isn't inherently bad because it's popular. It's not inherently good because it's not. Not all things must have intense depth, because then there would be no comparision and it would all be shallow again. What's the fun in life if you can't sing karaoke to something fluffy and pointless sometimes, instead of taking EVERYTHING seriously?

So...yeah. I'll just get down off my soapbox now and go listen to some Pink Floyd/Judy Garland/Offspring/Hanson/E Nomine/Porno Graffitti/Mozart/Blink 182/Avril Lavigne/Beach Boys/Beatles/Edith Piaf/Olivia Lufkin/Orbital/Culture Club/Rammstein/FF Soundtracks/Whatever. It's all music to me *^_^*

If it sounds good I listen to it. I couldn't care less if the artist is shallow or manufactured.
