Funny, it's the only one that I remember without playing the game.

Takara
09-29-2004, 06:53 AM
You'd figure we'd recall the titles of the other books with less complicated words. I had to spell-check to make sure I spelled 'buoyancy" right.

Outsider
09-29-2004, 07:00 AM
I can't blame you...

I had to check a dictionary when I first played the game to learn the meaning of buoyancy. And I had to check it again now, because after 10 years I forgot how to spell it.

abrojtm

Eek, sorry I didn't realize that I didn't post a question. *shakes head*

Takara
10-14-2004, 09:40 PM
Okay, so I checked my rom save files because I'm too lazy to plug the SNES or the PSX, so here are the title of the books.

The Guide of World Birds
The History of Shipbuilding
Buoyancy and it's Principles

The exact titles may vary depending on the versions (I'm pretty certain the third book is called "Principles of Buoyancy" in the PSX version), but those are close enough, I'd say.

And since I'm positive my answer is acceptable, I'm going to post a new question.

What is the Attack Power of Edge's Murasame?

Anarchys_Prize
10-21-2004, 05:19 AM
hi its been a while for me but i think its liek 67 isn't it??? lol i'll check again in like a couple of days, i'm at that point in the game again!

Takara
10-27-2004, 09:39 AM
It's not 67.

Outsider
10-27-2004, 05:27 PM
I have NO idea, so I'll just guess a number.

85.

Anarchys_Prize
10-27-2004, 10:06 PM
if not 67... then maybe 65... its in the 60's... i'm almost sure of it!?!?!

Takara
10-28-2004, 09:15 AM
Lower. :)

Storm
10-29-2004, 08:37 AM
The attack power of the Murasame is 55.

Takara

What is the quickest back to back boss fight in the entire game? ie. The fewest steps to get to the next boss.

Dragoon Kain
11-06-2004, 12:10 AM
dark elf? since u cant win the first time til edward plays n then u go back to the map and thennnn fight him again :D

Storm
11-06-2004, 01:06 AM
Okay, I need to be more clear about this:

1. The boss fights must be winnable.
2. You must participate in the boss fights.

Hinky the Pickle
11-06-2004, 02:42 AM
I think it's in the Giant of Bab-il when you fight the four elements and then the CPU, attacker and defender immediately afterwards.

Storm

Close, but incorrect.

I'm going to take a chance with the fight with Milon on top of Mount Ordeal. You fight him before crossing the bridge, and after crossing the bridge, you fight his Milon Z form.

Storm
11-06-2004, 11:00 PM
Still incorrect, but closer.

No. And that is actually more steps than the back to back Milon battles.

Fighting the four elements a second time each, all one after the other in the Tower of Bab-il?

Storm

Fighting the four elements a second time each, all one after the other in the Tower of Bab-il?
Incorrect. The battle occurs in the Giant of Bab-il and that is classified as one boss fight.

Takara
11-07-2004, 05:21 PM
Hmm. How about the fight between Lugae and Barnab in Bab-il, shortly followed by the fight against Lugae in his altered form whose name I forgot?

Outsider

Fighting K.Eblan and Q.Eblan to fight Rubicant.

Storm
11-07-2004, 07:10 PM
Fighting K.Eblan and Q.Eblan to fight Rubicant.
The battle against K.Eblan and Q.Eblan isn't really a boss fight, although the boss music does play. There is hardly any threat of dying in that fight.

Hmm. How about the fight between Lugae and Barnab in Bab-il, shortly followed by the fight against Lugae in his altered form whose name I forgot?
I was actually thinking fighting Asura, then Leviathan, which requires one step to fight the next. However, fighting Dr.Lugae and Balnab followed by Lugaborg requires no steps.

You are correct, Takara.

NOTE: If Outsider had answered first, I may have given it to him.

Takara
11-08-2004, 04:58 AM
Oh, I had totally forgotten about the Asura and Leviathan fights. Probably because I always go back to the room with the save point to save and rest between the fights. :p

Anyway...

Not counting the times you use a whistle, name all the locations where you can find a Big Chocobo.

Outsider
11-08-2004, 08:26 AM
Well, Takara came up with a hard question... As usual...

Let's see...

Chocobo Forest near Baron
Chocobo Forest near Fabul
Chocobo Forest near Mt. Ordeals
Chocobo Forest near Toroia
Dwaves' Castle
The Big Whale

Hmmm... That's all I can remember now....

Takara
11-08-2004, 11:47 PM
Correct Outsider.

Outsider
11-09-2004, 09:04 AM
Actually, I'm wrong.. I forgot about the Big Chocobo you find in the Black Chocobo Forest.

Well, now that I said it, I think that I'm right. Hmmm...

I want to ask a difficult question, but I'm too lazy to check the game for the answer... Maybe next time. Here's an easy one:

Where do you find the Toadlady?

thornwithin
11-10-2004, 04:32 AM

Takara
11-10-2004, 04:59 AM

Your turn, the one whose name I'm too lazy to write, so instead of actually writing it, I decide to make a long speech to explain why the hell I did not write it in the first place.

Heh, I assumed that by Chocobo Forest near Toroia you meant the one with the black chocobos. I keep forgetting there's another one south of Toroia.
Funny, I would expect to forget that Chocobo Forest near Toroia, which I only found by accident, a long time ago. But I forgot that only Chocobo forest that I actually have to enter while playing the game.

What equipment does Kain have each of the 3 times he joins your party?

I'm about to leave town for 5 days, so i'm posting the answer in a spoiler tag. Try not to look until *after* you've posted, mmmkay?

Start of Game: "Spear" Spear, "Iron" everything else
Tower of Zot: "Wind" Spear, "Silver" everything else
Giant of Bab-Il: "Gugnir" Spear, "Samurai" everything else

Zyrthofar
11-13-2004, 03:42 PM
Kain_1: Iron Helmet, Iron Armor, Iron Gauntlets, Iron Shield, Spear
Kain_2: Silver Helmet, Silver Armor, Silver Gauntlets, Silver Shield, Wind Spear
Kain_3: Samurai Helmet, Samurai Armor, Samurai Gauntlets, Samurai Shield, Gungnir Spear

I hope this question has not been asked before (I don't think so...)

What Hit Point range can the Dark Knight Cecil have at level 99? This doesn't count any usage of Silver/Gold Apples, which increases the character's HP.

A single HP count will suffice. Bonus points for anyone providing the exact range (minHP and maxHP), and more bonus points for providing the minimum XP required to reach level 99.

The exact range is 4930 to 5472 HP... The dark knight has at least 9998916 XP at level 99.

Since Storm is so keen to break my fun (can *you* find any question that hasn't been asked? :P ), I think I will pass the question to abrojtm, who got the closest answer...

I'm not angry with you, nor do I want to break your fun. However, questions such as yours are so hard and time consuming to answer that nobody can even make a legitimate guess. The end result is this thread becomes very quiet for a few weeks, and ruins the flow that a good trivia thread should have.

Outsider: 3 yellow, 1 white, and 1 big chocobo. At some time during the game (probably very near the end), you can find a black chocobo there, too.

R: 5 or 6, depending on when in the game you are.

I have time to lose, so why not... :D

Battle theme for all normal battles.
Boss Battle Theme for most bosses.
Dreadful Fight for the 2nd fight with Milon (right after you cross the bridge on Mount Ordeal, the 1st one uses the normal boss theme), Kainazzo in Baron, Valvalis in Zot, Rubicant in the tower of Bab-Il, against the 4 fiends in the Giant, and when Mopu-san (FuSoYa) and Golbez fight Zeromus and lose.
Final Battle when Cecil and friends fight Zeromus (after Cecil uses the crystal on it).
Ring of Bomb when you fight Rydia in Mist and I think it's also used when you fight the three Dark Imps (I guess that's the name of the monster) in the tower before Yang destroys the Super Cannon.
Cry in Sorrow is used in the second half of the fight against Edge's parents when they recover consciousness, the first half is the normal boss music.
Melody of Lute is not used when Edward fights alone in Kaipo. He plays it before the water hags appears, but I think the music for the battle is the boss battle, actually. However, Melody of Lute is used when you fight the Dark Elf the second time (when Edward saves your life), until the Dark Elf turns into a dragon.
Golbez Clad in Dark is used when Tellah fights him in Zot, and when you fight him in the Dwarf Castle before Rydia arrives.
Dancing Calbrena is used when you fight the dolls and when you fight Lugae and Balnab, before Balnab exploses and Lugae transforms.
Sadness when you fight Kain in Fabul.
I'm not sure if that's the real name of the track, it's called "Run" on my playlist... Anyway, Run is used in one battle in Fabul when Edward gets hit by an arrow/trips right before you enter the Crystal room. It is also used against Evil Wall and, I think, when you fight Plague.
Cecil's Theme is used in the fights in the Intro when you fight Float Eyes and a Zu on the airship, but also when Cecil Battle his dark self on Mount Ordeal to become a paladin.
The Final Fantasy Theme is used when Cecil and his friends are revived by those that were left on the Blue Planet during the fight against Zeromus, until you use the Crystal on it.

I think that's pretty much all of them. Right?

Oh, and guh... now that I think of it, I'm not certain if the fights with the Fiends before the Giant actually used the Dreadful Fight music or the Boss one... Oh well.

Kind of off subject, but in the very beginning of the game, when you fight a Raven (Zuu) and the Float Eyes, a different song is playing :P

Read Takara's second bullet from the bottom. She says the song is "Cecil's Theme", although I believe the exact name of the song that plays is "Red Wings". However, this tune should more appropriately be refered to as "Cecil's Theme", seeing as how it never plays when the Red Wings are shown at any point later on in the game.

Takara
11-23-2004, 07:35 AM
Yeah, I didn't remember what the track was called exactly. It is called The Red Wings.

I always unofficially considered it Cecil's theme.

I might be tempted to ask for Kain's family name, but that would be too easy...

How many statuses (like sleep) can a character have outside combat? I mean the ones which have small pictures in the menu screen. And oh! I want names too ^-^.

Good luck!

Did a few posts get erased??? Storm had the right answer a couple of days ago (nov 26)... What happened?

Storm
11-30-2004, 06:29 AM
Indeed, I did answer it correctly first. And with Zyrthofar as my witness, I now am entitled to ask the next question!

Name all bosses with a weakness to bolt.

Zyrthofar
11-30-2004, 01:37 PM
Yeah! my program will come in handy! :D

Octomamm
Kainazzo
Odin
Leviathan

I admit I had a few problems with Kainazzo... my prog was telling me it was weak against ice, so I went into the game and did various tests. Kainazzo is weak vs lightning only when gathering the water... When in normal form or in its shell, it is weak vs ice. (my prog showed me weak vs ice because it only saw the first form... i'll have to change that)...

So I hope this information about Kainazzo was useful, and that I didn't forget any boss. ^-^

thornwithin
12-02-2004, 11:18 PM
I'm pretty sure valvalis is weak against Bolt as well. Of course the first time you fight her, you have no black magic. But in the giant of bab-il, when "elements" switches to her form, it takes a lot of damage from Bolt.

Zyrthofar
12-03-2004, 03:01 AM
Interresting point...
My prog tells me Valvalis' first form is not weak against anything. Right now, I'm too tired to check her tornado-form (2nd form), so I'll test that tomorrow morning...
So until I check that, nobody can win! lol...

Storm
12-03-2004, 08:55 AM
Casting Bolt 3 on Valvalis will do 9999 damage. I accept that as a weakness.

Zyrthofar
12-03-2004, 02:24 PM
Ok... The first time you encounter Valvalis, she is not weak against anything (you cannot even cast on her while in her tornado). Fire, Ice and Lightning does the same amount of damage.

The second time you encounter her, she is indeed weak vs lightning (x4, instead of x2... ouch!)

So right... another boss is added to the list...
*Octomamm, Kainazzo, Odin, Leviathan, Valvalis*

Storm has to choose whether thornwithin or I win :)

Storm
12-03-2004, 06:05 PM

How many opportunities does Golbez personally have to kill Cecil? Also, you must describe the exact situation and the reason why Cecil is not killed.

First, Golbez could've killed Cecil when they were in Fabul and Kain wounded Cecil very badly. I don't recall why Golbez didn't kill him... Hrm, funny.

Second, Golbez could've killed Cecil in the Tower of Zot, I believe, but Tellah Meteo'd him and wounded him really badly.

Well, I'm wrong. I know that I am wrong about that second one, or at least, I think I am....

Someone answer this one, now I'm curious.

Feion

Storm
12-04-2004, 07:17 PM
There are still three instances missing.

Zyrthofar
12-05-2004, 12:05 AM
I'll try my luck...

- In Fabul, just after Kain beats Cecil. Golbez thinks Cecil is not really important (yet), and decides to take his girlfriend hostage instead of killing him.

- In the Tower of Zot, before and after Tellah casts Meteo. Golbez senses something about Cecil... "Who are you?" He doesn't kill him, probably out of curiosity, or he is just following his heart.

- In the Castle of Dwarves, just before Rydia appears. Cecil and the others are pretty much helpless, but Rydia comes to the rescue just before the killing blow.

- In the Giant of Bab-Il, just before FuSoYa breaks the spell. He doesn't kill Cecil because he was stopped by the Lunarian, and because the curse was broken.

- At the end, when he and FuSoYa are about to battle Zemus (and after your fight against Zeromus). He doesn't kill Cecil because he isn't controlled by Zemus anymore.

Hmmm... I already have five, but I really wonder about the last two... Just in case, I'll really try my luck with (improbable) situations...

- We don't see him, but it was Golbez who breaks the bridge when the party leaves the Tower of Zot. Cecil doesn't die because Cid suddenly appears with an airship before a funny magma splash ;).

- Though we don't see him, maybe he's just behind the door ^-^... When leaving the Sealed Cave, when he speaks to Kain about stealing the crystal back. He doesn't kill Cecil because he's on the other side of the door :). lol

Take your pick... I hope I didn't forget anything...

Storm
12-05-2004, 04:53 AM
One of your initial five is incorrect, and one of your additional two is correct.

Zyrthofar
12-05-2004, 01:36 PM
Does that mean I won or that I have to retry?

- In Fabul, just after Kain beats Cecil. Golbez thinks Cecil is not really important (yet), and decides to take his girlfriend hostage instead of killing him.

- In the Tower of Zot, before and after Tellah casts Meteo. Golbez senses something about Cecil... "Who are you?" He doesn't kill him, probably out of curiosity, or he is just following his heart.

Lol, my bad! ^-^

What is the Delta Attack? ( a bit of precision, please :) )

The Delta Attack is done by Cindy, Mindy and Sandy in the tower of Zot, also known as the Magus Sisters. It happens something like this: The youngest attacks, the fat one casts wall, and the tall one casts a spell on the walled one.

I'm probably way off, because I haven't gone through FFIV in a long time.

Feion

Zyrthofar

Almost, but the sequence is a bit wrong.

Danger
12-06-2004, 01:21 PM
Again the Magus sisters. The tall one casts wall on the fat one "Here you go", the fat one attacks "Hurry up" and the small one yells delta attack and does a level two black magic spell on the fat ones wall (to hit you). The delta attack I suppose is the whole sequence, but the official screamed attack is only the level two magic.

I'm going to assume that's close enough, I've not been part of this thread yet so I hope this question hasn't been asked:

Name three summons you can only get through RANDOM battles (should be pretty easy).

Zyrthofar
12-06-2004, 08:20 PM
Hey! You forgot the fat one casting "revive" (and possibly cure spells) :)
Anyway! Your answer's good, so.....

"Again the Magus Sisters"... can't help it... kinda fell in love with the tall one in FF10 :D

Imp (or Goblin), Bomb, Cockatrice (only in FF4J), and Mage (or Mind-Flayer)
Got 4! ;)

Unless I'm getting crazy, I probably got them right...

What is the Attack Sequence of Dragon Mist, and what is its Counterattack Sequence? btw, this is easier than it sounds... :)

*Mind drifting away*... If Dragon Mist wasn't linked with Rydia's mother, she woundn't have been killed, Rydia woundn't have joined the party, wouln't have been swallowed by Leviathan, and wouldn't have savec the party against Golbez in the Castle of Dwarves. IE Game Over without Rydia... Long live RYDIA!!! :D

Actually, by your whole deal there, it would be:

IE game over without the death of the Mist Dragon, or Dragon Mist as they say. Mist Dragon sounds better to me. My bad.

His attack sequence is insanely boring. He just does regular attacks, with no real sequence until he turns into mist, at which point, if you attack him, he counters with Cold Breath, I think it's called. Either Cold Breath or D. Breath or something like that.

Here's a good one:

If Darth Vader is to Golbez as Luke Skywalker is to Cecil, then Emporor Palpatine must be???

Q: What order do you fight the four fiends in the Babil Giant?

Zyrthofar
12-07-2004, 12:32 AM
Woah! the thread is going fast!
What I wanted with the Dragon Mist question was something like this:

Attack Sequence: 3 attacks, then turns to mist (repeat)
Counterattack Sequence: If physically attacked and in second form, counter with ColdMist...

anyway...

The order of the four elements is: Milon, Rubicant, Kainazzo, Valvalis.
I'll wait for confirmation.

Danger
12-07-2004, 01:51 AM
Wouldn't Darth be to Kyluka (spelling bad but... Cecils father)? I know too much Star Wars... Golbez could be to Leia!

The three summons I was thinking of were Imp, Mage, Bomb. Bomb by the way is a great bang for the buck and is zero cast time.

Zyrthofar
12-07-2004, 03:22 AM
SPOILERS. well, anyway... if you haven't played through the game, what are you doing here?

Feioncastor was probably speaking of Darth Vader as the evil dude who gets good at the end, just like Golbez. Palpatine (Zemus) is the mastermind behind everything, controlling Vader (Golbez)...

Feioncastor was probably speaking of Darth Vader as the evil dude who gets good at the end, just like Golbez. Palpatine (Zemus) is the mastermind behind everything, controlling Vader (Golbez)...
Yes, precisely. You see, Cecil (Luke) is the good guy, trying to set things right. The bad guy Golbez (Vader) is related to Cecil (Luke) and when he realizes that he's being doing evil stuff, he turns against his master, Zemus (Palpatine). And good triumphs over evil.

Lower magic defense, right?

Zyrthofar
12-08-2004, 12:14 AM
Wrong.

With Defense 100/10% and MagDefense 20/12%, this wonderful piece of armor has the first place for MagDefense Base, MagDefense Rate and Defense Base. 10% for Defense Rate is still good (~average).

The answer is a bit more subtle :)

uh, cuz it takes so friggin long to find, having to kill all those little damn pink puffs in one room over and over and over and over again...(ya its boring) iono if im right, just a guess

Zyrthofar
12-08-2004, 01:00 PM
I meant, if you have the armor in your possession, why wouldn't you want to equip it?

And I think the pinkpuff experience fun and amusing... not! ;)

This is a pretty subtle answer, so one or two more guesses and I'll post the answer...

Takara

Hmm. I'm going to guess "because you'll need to choose which character to give it to".

*shrugs*

Zyrthofar
12-08-2004, 03:17 PM
nah... :)

The answer was because the adamant armor gives the wearer immunity to every statuses (except berserk), which includes Float... Immunity to Float... woah... Yes, try it :)

So if you go to the Land of Summoned Monsters or the Sylph Cave with this armor, you either get a lot of damage, or take off the armor and cast Float.

Another good answer would be that it enters in conflict with the Cursed Ring, which gives Elemental Absorption to the selected elements. The Adamant Armor give Elemental Immunity to them. So lets say you are wearing the Dragoon Shield (Fire, Ice and Lightning bits) and the Cursed Ring (Absorb bit)... You are going to absorb Fire, Ice and Lightning. Wearing the Adamant Armor with them sets the Immune bit, so you end up getting no damage for Fire, Ice and Lightning, instead of absorbing the damage...

*sigh* I really hope these two little pieces of info about the Adamant Armor was interresting (any feedback? :))

I'll ask another question instead...
The little FloatEye (near Baron... yeah, the blue winged eyeball) has two kinds of attack. What are they?

Danger

Attack and Defense? I got in a couple battles with the things and noticed one attacked more often than the other.... Also script doesn't seem to change when one is alone... Then again I am playing the original SNES version on a cartridge so it might have a dumbed down attack style.

Zyrthofar
12-09-2004, 08:40 PM
My answer is from the original ff4us, too.

So, Danger officially has the first half of the answer: "Attack"
Indeed, Floateye doesn't have anything special when alone, and doesn't have any form of counterattack.

Easy hint: The second kind of attack happens after you cast a certain status-inflicting spell on it ;).

Danger: as for your observing of a floateye attacking faster than the other, i might have a hypothesis... When entering combat, each enemy is given a particular range to assign the Agility Ability (:S sounds wierd). In the case of the Floateye, the range is 1 to 3. Maybe one of them had 1 and the faster had 3... :) I don't know if that would be significant enough to notice any difference in speed, though...

Takara
12-12-2004, 12:58 PM
I don't think anyone knows. I'm going to guess Attack and Float. Dunno, if you cast Dispel on the FloatEye, he might stop floating, so it has to recast the spell.

If it's not that, I have no clue.

Zyrthofar
12-12-2004, 01:09 PM
:/
The answer was "Attack", and "Fatal". The second one is when the enemy is charmed -> it will cast Fatal (supposedly on a random enemy, but the two times I checked, it casted it on itself.)

It wasn't that tough... it was written in the strategy guide... oh well...

What different items can an Imp give when killed?

Hey Takara! Who was it on the picture you just changed?

Takara
12-12-2004, 01:24 PM
Right now? It's Valvalis, the Fiend of Air. Previously, it was Fran, one of the main characters in Final Fantasy XII.

Anyway, as for this question, I'm going to guess it's only for regular Imps? If yes, then the spoils you can get for defeating a regular Imp is either a potion, a tent, an HrGlass1 (assuming you're not playing the easy-type version or the first NA release), or the Imp item, which will allow Rydia to learn the Imp summon when used.

Actually, the damage a magic does depends on many things, including the casters magic power, and the targets magic defense, so the weakest magic may sometimes do 50 damage, and other times perhaps a couple hundred, and it may even cure the target, or do no damage at all.

Palom & Porom: revive Cain, Rosa, Rydia, and Edge

Edward & Tella: Heal Rosa and Rydia

Yang & Cid: Heal Edge and Cain

FoSoYa: Heal Cecil

Golbeze: Tell you to use crystal on Zeromus

heh, I am right at that point in the game. Zeromus is annoying... I'm only like level 55, so it's really hard right now and I'm taking a break. But, I digress.

What is the most visible effect of bad breath?

Zyrthofar

EDIT: Balnab. (Dr. Lugae's Frankenstein-like powerhouse. If Dr. Lugae is incapacitated, he won't be oiled, which will cause him to explode.)
EDIT: Dr. Lugae. (The wacky scientist under Rubicant who created Balnab. He also wants to see you dead, more than a little bit.
-Trap Wall. (Take the Dark Crystal, and you gotta fight this one to keep it.)

Seven.

Protections made of Mythril (or Silver in FF4US) give the wearer a bonus defense (half damage, I think) against a certain type of creature race. What race is this?

Crazy the Clown: W-What?

Crazy the Clown
01-02-2005, 08:33 PM
I'm going with the undead.

Many believed that silver has a hand in taking them down a peg or two. And mythril is just a mythical form of silver. (Final Fantasy games call it, "mythril silver.")

Zyrthofar
01-02-2005, 09:11 PM
normally, that would be ok with me, but in FF4, "undead" and "x" are two distinctive races, albeit very similar... A Mythril weapon would not have extra power versus a skeleton for example, but would hit 4x against "x"... Of course, "x" is what I am asking for ^-^

abrojtm

Zyrthofar
01-04-2005, 01:51 PM
Takara got it first :)

aborjtm: There are 8 creature types (0 counts) as far as the game is concerned. They use these creature types when determining damage. For example, the Mythirl Hammer is effective against machines and spirit, causing 4x as much damage as it would have against another enemy. The Crystal Armor is effective against Undead, so Cecil receives half the damage against them.

Milon: A demon of Malebolge
Kainazzo: Sea of Mystery (or something like that)
Valvalis: I have absolutely no idea...
Rubicant: Ruby---? (or something like a demon of canto 22)

*If* you meant the original japanese names, they are the following:
Milon -> スカルミリョーネ (Scarmilione)
Kainazzo/Cagnazzo -> カイナッツォ (Kainazzo)
Valvalis -> バルバリシャ (Valvalisha)
Rubicant -> ルビカンテ (Rubicante)

abrojtm

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't the latter list was derived from Dante's Inferno.

Zyrthofar
01-11-2005, 01:19 PM
I didn't know about Dante's Inferno (from the Divine Comedy), but I just read that the 4 emperors from FF4 are names from the book. I gotta buy it! :)

After some searching, I found out the names:
Scarmiglione (canto 21)
Cagnazzo (canto 21 and 22)
Rubicante (canto 21 and 22)
Barbariccia (canto 21 and 22)

If this is the right answer, abrojtm had it first. I only divulged my findings in case someone would be interrested, and for informal/educational purposes ;).

Rase
01-11-2005, 02:58 PM
Yep, it's [i]Dantes Inferno.

The Four Fiends in this game are all demons who show up in Dante's Inferno. In the story, Dante and the Roman poet Virgil make a journey through the nine circles of Hell. The book was written around the beginning of the 14th century, and the story takes place on Good Friday, 1300. Three of the Fiends' names are misspelled in the American version...
Milon, or Scarmiglion in FF4j, is one of the demons in Malebolge, the eighth circle of Hell. His name was probably shortened to 'Milon' because of space limitations.
Rubicante is another demon in Canto XXII. His name means "he who grows red"; appropriate for the Fire Fiend.
Kainazzo, a. k. a. Cagnazzo is another demon from the same circle. It means, roughly, 'the big Kain'. Another coincidental explanation (I thought of this long ago and assumed it to be true ^^;) is the Japanese kanji 'kai' (sea) + 'nazo' (mystery). That's coincidental though. Alex Scott adds that Cagnazzo actually means "Dog Nose."
Valvalis, a. k. a. Barbariccia: (In Japanese, 'b' and 'v' sometimes aren't distinguished, like 'r' and 'l'.) Barbariccia is the leader of the ten demons that Virgil and Dante meet when exploring Hell

And from Chase: Calcabrina was one of the demons featured in Dante's Divine Comedy.

Q: How many prince/princesses do you meet through the course of the game?

Zyrthofar
01-12-2005, 02:42 PM
Easy question???

Let's see...
- Edward/Gilbert (prince of Damcyan)

Hemmmm... well....
- Is Luca the daughter of King Giott?? (If so, she's a princess)

Baron, no... Fabul, no...

Oh wait! Edge! He's the rightful heir of Eblana!... That makes three...

Mysidia, no... Sylph cave, ... duh? Cecil and Yang have no royal blood and ascend to the throne directly... I don't think FuSoYa really exists.

Golbez is the prince of darkness? nah... won't work...

I only think of three (Gilbert, Edge and Luca), but since I must miss two dozen princes/princesses, I'll wait...

abrojtm
01-12-2005, 11:39 PM

No, I meant like dying cause you get hit for 2000 when your max HP is only 1000. Ribbons dont' protect against that.

Feion

Zyrthofar
01-13-2005, 09:09 PM

But since a physical death is not a "status" (as in status-inflicting weapon), the physical death is not counted in the list.

abrojtm
01-14-2005, 04:36 AM
It doesn't protect against Float, Regen, Wall, Haste, or Blink...?

Zyrthofar
01-14-2005, 01:04 PM
Aaaaaw... technically, you're right, but...

- I may be wrong, but I don't recall anything able to regenerate something (maybe in the monster's spells?).

- In FF4, Haste and Slow are not considered "statuses". They merely change the speed of the character (or enemy), which is a byte separated from the inflicted status bytes.

- Wall and Blink cannot be associated with weapons/armors. That means that "Count", (Jumping), (TwinCasting), (Charging), (Parrying), (Egg), "Stop", "Paralyze", (Weak), (Covered), "Blink", "Barrier", "Wall", (HP Leaking), and (Hiding) cannot be inflicted upon a character/enemy by using a weapon, nor can the character/enemy be immune against them by wearing an armor/protection. Normal spells cannot inflict them either - special spells using different subroutines are used for "Stop", "Blink", "Barrier", (HP Leaking), ......

So that leaves 16 statuses. That includes "Hold", which (somehow) is different from "Paralyze" in FF4.

So if you check this post with feioncastor's, the answer will be easy.

Good news: since abrojtm's answer was technically right, if he begins his next post with "I love FF4", he will win. Of course, he can choose to continue... ^-^

Good luck everyone! (long post, I know)

According to the FF4 Settei Shiryou Hen (one of four books released in japan), they don't have last names. Rydia doesn't have any official family name, though "Drake" seems to be popular among fans :).

FuSoYa's family name is BouTaYa, but since I just made that up, consider it a joke of ill taste :S...

Helen of Troy, too, lost her family name to be remembered through the ages by the place she was from. That's sad, imho.

i dont no if this has been asked but im jusk keeping the thread alive
What are the names and elements of the 4 fiend elements

My name is...something..?

I believe their names were Scarmiglion(earth),Cagnozio(water),
Valvalica(wind), and Rubicante(fire)

Some of the names may not be spelt right but I think the names are right.

If your talking about Final Fantasy IV, then they are Milon (Earth), Cagnazzio (Water), Valvalica (Wind), and Rubicant (Fire)

The original name was barbaricca. In FFII US it was mistranslated.

Did they mistranslate in FFIV (Chronicles) too, or was it right, or did they just go with it because they had already named her in the US?

All four names, it's worth noting, were extracted from Dante's Divine Comedy, but as to the previous question:

FFIV (Chronicles version) did indeed call them Milon, Cagnazzo, Valvalis, and Rubicant. The names as they appear in Dante's work were used in the SoC dungeons in FFI: DoS.

Okay, since my last queston was slightly off topic and received no response (I apologize), here's an FF4 trivia question:

In the underworld, there is a bug which may allow you to skip one boss. Which boss is it, and how is it done?

(I know it's not FF4 trivia, but I had to ask this one!)

Then why ask it? I thought this was a FFIV trivia thread?

Use warp in the throne room of Dwarf Castle after you have beaten calbrena. That will take you to crystal room of crystal cave (if that is what it's called). Pick up the crystal and leave. You'll be back to dwarf castle throne room. Go to the crystal cave. Kain will grab the crystal and go.

It was over a year ago, so I'd say so.

Since we've already gone and revived it, I guess I'll think of a question (Unless the mods close it anyway.)

What weapon for Rydia is dropped by Dragons in the Core of the Moon? :cat:

Dragon's Whisker (GBA Version) or Dragon Whip in the other versions.

In the GBA Version, what does Tokita say if Porom is the only girl in your team?
(This should be easy)

"An all-male party? I'm not too excited about that...
But if it means I get to see Rosa and *Lydia, I'll go!"

T. Tokita has joined your party!

"Please take me with you! I don't like it here!"

*I renamed Rydia Lydia. And I named Kain Cain. Haha.:cat:

Okay...Well, I'm not good at thinking up questions...someone else think of one...:cat:

Q: Why don't you make a new thread instead of bringing up a dead one?
