View Full Version : Using your screenname offline

Do you ever use your screen name in your daily offline life, and has anyone ever thought you strange for using it?

I got a keyring where you can make your own name by buying letters, and I spelt "Xander" with it and I have it hanging from my bag.

A girl I hang around with at college saw it and said, "What does your keyring say?". Me: "Xander". Her: "What's that mean?". Me: "It's my other name!" Her: "O........kay."

I also used the name when I had to make a personal site for college. So now most people at college know about my screenname, although I think some probably think I'm a bit odd for using it xD

So do you like to use your screenname much offline, and what sort of reactions have you had, if you did? Obviously, Joel need not answer. ;D

Dingo Jellybean
03-16-2004, 12:41 AM
What Wuppa said.

But yeah...that be stupid. But I did hear people in my Physics class mention my nickname Dingo Jellybean because my class is full of gaming nerds that visits GameFAQs. *shudders*

Yamaneko

No.

I'd probably only let Del call me Yams offline. Anyone else gets a kick in the crotch.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Divina.

PeTeRL90
03-16-2004, 12:45 AM
It'd be kind of weird having PeTeRL90 on something of mine.

Linus
03-16-2004, 12:59 AM
I mention Linus a lot in everyday conversations, but I don't think anyone's ever caught on.

Jebus
03-16-2004, 12:59 AM
I wouldn't mind someone else calling me Jebus, but I'm not the only person who uses Jebus as a screen name.

Nino Brown
03-16-2004, 01:10 AM
I have.

I've gone to things similar to Mills Day at other forums and I used my username the first time and then after that we would use our real names.

escobert
03-16-2004, 01:39 AM
yeah people call me Bert on the occasion.

Tokki Wartooth
03-16-2004, 01:40 AM
A few years ago my Korean friends called me "Little Tokki," which eventually became my main screen name (minus the "little"). Other than that, no.

Agent Proto
03-16-2004, 01:42 AM
It makes for a good name for Laser Tag :D

Strider
03-16-2004, 01:44 AM
My girlfriend thinks it's pretty cute that I have this name for forums and such, but I don't use it at all outside of the 'Net. :D

Erdrick Holmes
03-16-2004, 01:44 AM
I'm always called by my SN, even my family calls me that.

Mr. Graves
03-16-2004, 01:46 AM
No.

03-16-2004, 01:49 AM
Yeah I use V06 a lot. I write it on my books and stuff out of boredom. Its not that I like FF, I just like the name Vincent. Sue me. One girl used to call me Vivi.... why is beyond me.:sweatdrop

Obviously, Joel need not answer. ;D

I don't think I ever get called by my SN offline, though my real name is part of my SN.

Wind Shear
03-16-2004, 02:09 AM
I use my screen name a lot. In fact, my classmates and my instructors know my screen name and... they like it!

There was one time in IT Message Board that one of my instructors wondered who is Wind Shear. She thought that the screen name is a foreigner. Upon I logging in, she said "Huh? Ikaw pala si Wind Shear!" (Huh? You are Wind Shear!)

:p

Del Murder
03-16-2004, 02:20 AM
This was originally an offline name, and a couple people still call me by it.

RSL
03-16-2004, 02:21 AM
No, no one ever calls me RSL offline.

Calliope
03-16-2004, 02:54 AM
People call me Ben because I am Ben!

White Raven
03-16-2004, 02:59 AM
I'm called White Raven (or just Raven) by my friends all the time. I don't think that they remeber my real name sometimes ><

Shlup
03-16-2004, 03:03 AM
No. Never.

Flying Mullet
03-16-2004, 03:09 AM
Nope, no one's ever called me Mullet or Flying Mullet, although chadmonkey was a nickname I had in college by one of my friends.

edczxcvbnm
03-16-2004, 03:32 AM
People never refer to me as edczxcvbnm in real life because they can not pronounce it.

I have been called Keliz(my other online name). I use it over at LH's site zenosaga. Although I don't post much there :P

I call Sephex that name all the time.

Kirkpatrick
03-16-2004, 04:08 AM
My name came from a nickname my cousin gave me, and he still calls me Kirkpatrick from time to time. Every once in a while one of my friends makes reference to it, because I use it on Msn as well.

HOOTERS

So do people say this to you a lot?

Leeza
03-16-2004, 04:33 AM
Yes, I use my screen name offline. No one think it's weird, because it is my name. Some people aren't used to using it though because it's actually my second name, but they don't think it's weird...they're just used to my other name, which I'm using less and less.

Meat Puppet
03-16-2004, 04:38 AM
My Screen name is, of course, my real name.

Meow

i went to a LAN party on campus recently, and folks there called each other by their online handles. Guys that knew each other perfectly well. i found it both awkward and silly.

But really, to take on a screen name is to make it a name by which online folks know, reference and address you; it's no different than a nickname. So i suppose, logically, it shouldn't be that odd.

But that doesn't mean i didn't find it so. Wacky gamer culture.

Giggles
03-16-2004, 06:04 AM
My screen name came from "real life" first :o!

Giggles = ALL THAT I AM AND EVER HAVE BEEN.

Sort of :o~

Mo-Nercy
03-16-2004, 06:50 AM
No one calls me anything because no one talks to me.. :(

Meat Puppet
03-16-2004, 07:47 AM
I'd talk to you and call you Mo dash Nercy cubed if I saw you for sure :):)

I'd call you Stalin.

Oh, and I've never used this SN offline.

Loony BoB
03-16-2004, 01:13 PM
I'd call him Yams... I don't know him by any other name. :( It would be wrong to name him otherwise.

I tend to use nicknames everywhere. I called Shlup 'Shlup' or 'Squeak' when I was around her, for example.

Some people call me BoB, but rarely. I think about 99% of people who meet me call me Daniel.

i do film and television studies.

my production team in my class is called *Pixie Demon Productions*

anything i have to have an alias for, it is always pixie demon, or smashing pixies.

my friends sometimes call me pixie, coz im pretty damn short.

thats all!!

Rainecloud
03-16-2004, 01:42 PM
Only a few people actually know my online name IRL, so no, I don't use it.

Having people call me 'Raine' in person would be very weird.

I think someone called me Gau at "20 minute's from Mills Day". But that's about it. It was probably Paul though, GOW!

I don't even know how to properly pronounce my screen name.

Mikztsu
03-16-2004, 04:41 PM
My offline nickname is pronounced same way as my screenname. That's it, I guess. *_*

Psychotic
03-16-2004, 04:58 PM
About 3 years ago some guy I knew referred to me by the name "Psycho", which was my name on Planetarion (EVIL) then.

God that makes me so proud. But it could have been that because one of the other PA players was called Paul, and his name on PA was lame or something. Like "Captain Startopia". Ew.

Fuzakeru

LadySteph - the lady = Steph = my name. *Shrugs* So yes in a way. I don't like people calling me Stephanie. I like just Steph.

Maxico
03-16-2004, 07:51 PM
My screen name is the name of my company DUH.

Ariel
03-16-2004, 09:22 PM
Nah. I feel weird if people call me by this screenname online, unless it's on the boards. Anyone calling me this offline would be... strange, in a very bad way. =o

I had a few people call me "Mr. Encyclopedia", which is a name Aexoden and Del Snizz gave me on the chatroom a few years ago. I never figured out how they knew it, either.

I use "Gauntlet", my other SN, as my Lasertag name. A few people call me "KB", but they don't know that it stands for King Bahamut.

But not really. Normally people just call me "ass."

Citizen Bleys
03-17-2004, 01:07 AM
People have called me Bleys and Lu offline.

Paul (Morris) and Jessie were the first to use 'Bleys' exclusively even though they knew me by my real name first.

03-17-2004, 04:04 AM
My screenname was originally my nickname, back in the days before I had internet access. A few people still call me that in the real world, too.

I had a feeling HOOTERS was going to come up with something interesting... and I remember being skeptical when he changed his screenname from Hootenanny.:p

If someone called me Spiff in real life, I probably wouldn't respond, just because I wouldn't realize someone is trying to talk to me.

I think Ashley called me Spiff once or twice and I didn't figure out she was talking to me for ten minutes or something.

So there, I can't believe you forgot me ;__;

But it's not your name EXACTLY like Joel is Joel. =P He was just the obvious example. Blah. Big meanie. xD
