View Full Version : Who is most viable in late game? Who do YOU use?

hey everybody.

i was just wondering, what do you think is the perfect setup for the end of the game. i've played it three times and never beaten it. why? i kept starting over cuz i didn't get a gf or didn't get a card etc...

BTW: i'm basing most of this around the chars' limit breaks

anyways, Squall, whom i named Dante (Devil May Cry = kickbutt game), has lion heart which is good. if you're stuck with him, he might as well be useful...

so, for my other team mates i really have no clue. however, i really think Irvine's Shot limit break is awesome. from what i gather, 100 pulse ammo will last you a long time and kills veeery quickly. it deals insane amounts of damage. this is biased because Irvine is, in my opinion, the most underrated character, therefor i prefer him =)

and the last is sort of a tossup between Quistis and Selphie. Shockwave Pulsar is a very cool limit break, though you can get the same damage with a GF...Selphie would be good because Slot is just an awesome thing, though while you're waiting for your desired spell the enemy is pounding your team. Full-Cure is so very useful, and she has a lot of the tougher magicks in there too.

i really like zell, being the martial arts guy, BUT i don't wanna use the "Armageddon Punch" tactic...because i find it to be rather cheap (i have a guilty conscience when it comes to cheap strategies or cheating). so discarding that, is My Final Heaven a viable limit break?

oh, then there's rinoa....i don't like her. or her dog.

tell me what your thoughts are concering the FFVIII Dream Team.

Squall of course is the best in the game. He is virtually unaffected by Blind (although you lose the ability to trigger if you are), he deals at least 1.5 times as much damage as everyone else if junctioned equally (until you reach higher levels that is) and he has (arguably) the best set of limits in the game. For me, Squall has the abilities, Attack, Magic, Draw and Recover. Never fails me.

Zell is my other party member, a trump card, usually. I usually won't use Armageddon Fist unless I really need it, otherwise, he just sits there and heals. He has Attack, Magic, Treatment and Revive.

Rinoa is my final member, I don't learn Wishing Star purposely just so she uses Invincible Moon more often. Without junctions, Rinoa has the highest strength stat (although Squall does more damage) and if properly used Angel Wing is devastating. I give her Attack, Magic, GF and Item.

I don't use Quistis. That's it. Nothing that makes her good.

I have a tendancy to skip the spell I wanted when using Selphie's Slot (hehehehe) so I don't use her either.

Irvine's alright. I'm a cheapskate, and I can't be bothered buying ammo for him or refining it.

I usually use people I cant stand, just for their limits. And, well, if I only used characters I liked, it'd just be Quistis the whole time. Squall is great for his Lion Heart limit, and Rinoa for Angelo's Invincible Moon. It's perfect for keeping Squall at low health for a good amount of time without him dying. Third is usually Quistis, mainly for curing and helpful spells, I dont use anyone else's limit breaks much.

haha i know what you mean about the slot thing, it goes something like: cura blizzaga meteor cura RAPTURE aura, etc. and i have a fit of rage for having skipped it.

anyway, good point about rinoa, i didn't take the technical/stat info into consideration.

interesting how you have Zell use revive and Squall use recover...statistically Squall dies less than Zell in my experience, so i'd always want Squall to have revive seeing as how chances are he won't be knocked out too often. but maybe your way would work better.

Zell Dincht: martial artist by day, white mage by night.

oh, and i noticed that your only char with GF was rinoa...what GF's did you give her, and what about the compatibility?

let's say, for example, that Eden was highly compatible with Squall, but Rinoa is to be the GF user in late game (final battles), wouldn't it kind of suck giving her the powerful GFs? well, i'd assume from your lineup that you use phys. attacks and limit breaks mostly anyway, eh? which is just fine with me =)

i just love how Zell runs up and it sounds like he's punching an old tin garbage can...

my rinoa deals 80k dmg per cycle, and her cycles go by very, very fast the way i junctioned her. squall is OKAY for his renzokuken and chance of getting lionheart. and zell would be my third character because i can get around 150,000 points of damage per limit break though it gets boring and i never know whether the monster is dead or not

I usually go with Squall, Selphie and Zell. Squall and Zell have the best limits in terms of power, and Selphie's is good for getting out of a jam (Full Cure or even better The End).

I go with Squall, Rinoa, and Selphie. Squalls the muscle while Rinoa and Selphie both have useful limit breaks.

My favorite formation at the end of the game would probably be Squall, Zell, and Rinoa

Squall: Lion Heart, need i explain? he can do around 230,000 damage with a full renzokuken (7) + lion heart (i think 17) with meltdown of course :)

Zell: Punch rush, booya over and over again. this can do a load of damage if you get really quick at entering the commands

Rinoa: Wishing Star is pretty powerful, but she is really nice when Angelo does invincible moon or angelo recover when u die

I use Irvine, Squall, and Quintist. Squall has lion heart. Irvine has his wave shot. Quintist has shockwave pulsar, big guard, and degenerator. If I plan on taking on any Weapons then I would put in Zell for Quintist. I like this gamecause I can abuse limit breaks.:D

Use everyone!!!! I think I said this before in another thread.

Mod your cards, they can be retrieved by the CC members in ragnorak and even those rare ones from the queen of cards back at the crash site (a little more difficult), so you can re win any card to re mod.

Divide all gfs to each character, 4 will have 3, the rest will ahve 2. You have to do some planning with compatibility with abilities. When you feel its right, its amnesia green time!!

Teach one of each person's GF all the J-scrolls, teach the others the ability X4, status, elemental attack and defense x4, and fit in on any GF the "+60%" for stats that arent as high as the others. Add autohast and auto shell if you like.

Youll be kicking 255%, walk up to Ulty and touch her, she falls on her face :riiight:

I did this all in like 3 hours

I guess I'll just say what I used in the final battle, just first off, because that's the only setup I know. I used Squall, Zell, and Rinoa throughout the game.

I started with Squall, Irvine, and Quistis. Quistis died in the first battle. Zell replaced her. In the second battle, no one died. In the third, Zell died, Rinoa replaced her. That lineup lasted until the final battle. Rinoa died after using Wishing Star, which saved my butt, because I had used SIX Lionhearts, and she still wasn't dead. Rinoa eventually died, and Selphie replaced her. One last Lionheart finished Ulty off.
