A new game was announced in the Japanese magazine V-JUMP, Final Fantasy: Guilty Wing, and you can CLEARLY see that the character in the ad is none other than Squall Lionheart from Final Fantasy VIII. A sequel to FFVIII?

By the way, it's a GAMECUBE exclusive. ;)

I hope it's true, sucks that it'll only be for game cube tho.

Eeh... I can deal. Atleast Square is returning to its roots.

I would doubt it. I DON'T hope it's true. I'm not sure there's enough of a consensus that FFVIII is a "great" game to warrant a sequel. Plus, everything was pretty much sewn up, besides the whole R=U thing. But you may not be able to make enough of another game simply showing Rinoa's supposed downfall.

I don't trust that for a second.

Well, V-Jump was the first magazine to get wind of FFX-2, and tons of video games, so... they're trustworthy, but this could turn out to be an ill-fated rumor they picked up too early.

i dont know if i'd play the game...I mean,i love 8 and all but...like it was said, its prety well sewn up.they'd have to introduce new characters/villians/ext.

I don't know if you notice it or not, but down in the midst of the purple text, you can see a bit of blue haze between the third and fourth characters if you look closely.

Also, the red spray outline around the orange text on the right looks very uneven, very unclean. In other words, it doesn't look professional.

Therefore, I conclude that it's a hoax. Lookin' around, I haven't found anything concrete to rebutt the validity of the image, but my guess is that it's just another forged rumor.

EDIT: If you copy-paste into Paint and invert the colors, it looks more unclean there. And the back of the girl at the bottom right looks even more fabricated. It looked out of place to begin with. . . And also take note of how a couple of the letters on the right side are off-center.

Another hoax. If Square was gonna make a brand new game, why would they recycle an old image?

Ugh, that's hideous. Someone 'inverted' a picture of Squall, nabbed a random anime image, and put a lot of Japanese text on it.

And it looks NOTHING like a V-Jump article. They're way more professional.

Obviously just more rumor-mongering. Nothing to get your underwear in a bunch over.

If I were planning to design a fake article/poster suggesting a FF8 sequel, I'd spend more than 5 seconds on it.

And the game name sucks as well. Square would come up with better.

Can anyone read the text on the picture in here? What the h*** does it say?

Bl**dy *****, if that's true, I'd have to buy a Gaycube! Yégh...

(I bought a Playstation for FF8, and a PS2 for FFX)

BTW. Why the ***** would they make FF8 GW for the Gaycube, as the PS2 has
1. More space on a DVD
2. Far better prestations
3. The Gaycube is made for young children(look at their collection of games (pokémon, mario?)), wich FF8 certainly wasn't

<REDICULOUS>FF8GW on the Gaycube</REDICULOUS>

Or did I just insult someone...

If that's true I'll eat my hat. It'll mask the taste of the vomit.

Three guesses, bud.

I'm refering to this game. It's a hoax, someone with pretty poor photo shopping skills and some free time, it isnt happening, for all the reasons stated above.

Just mailed Square-Enix about it. Doubt I'll get a reply, but it doesn't hurt to try now does it...

There's no need.

1. If this was a real article, it would be more detailed and better done. The graphics are terrible. Also, they wouldnt invert a picture of Squall (how tacky), but instead put at least a screenshot of this game in.

2. How is it that, after announcing a brand new SquareEnix game (a Final Fantasy game, no less) the only ones who have any sort of information or pictures is this random, obscure magazine? If Square announced a new FF, or even the name of a new FF, it would be plastered all over every game magazine ever made, not to mention most every FF/video game site around.

3. Even if this phantom magazine did get exclusive coverage (why they'd give it to such a crappily produced magazine, I'll never know) there'd certainly be much more too it.

4. And most conclusively, crappy (and even some well done) 'magazine articles' announcing sequeals/remakes of VII and VIII come out often, usually at least every 6 months.

1. Japanese mags always have a terrible layout, and if it was just an announcement, there wouldn't be any screenshots.

2. V-Jump is not an obscure mag. V-Jump is the largest game mag in Japan, and was also the first to come with FF X-2 (I have to say they were the first with Megaton too...)

3. No comment :)

4. No comment either, you're right about that...

Altough I agree with you, after scoping out everything I could find about it :P, I fear it's a fake.

Well, at least there's no need to buy a Gaycube then.

TheAbominatrix

I know all about V-Jump, and that clearly aint a V-Jump article. Their layouts may be weird (I like them myself) but their graphics are of cleaner quality.

They could do an VIII movie and it would do well. A game would be met with about the same results as Bush being elected... half of the people thought it was a golden age for the country, and the other half just about had an ulcer.

No, you just made a complete ass out of yourself. Are you 13 or something? You remind me of the comic below.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the screen is a fake. If it isn't that's really stupid. Either way, I win.

1) multiple GC discs are neither uncommon nor expensive.

2) what's a prestation? Is that like the radio stations that the factory installs as presets on my car radio?

3) the GAMEcube is made for playing video games on. If you think playing video games makes you cool or hardcore, you need to go outside for a few minutes. Anyway, Blood Omen 2, Soul Calibur 2, and Resident Evil are all not only Gamecube games, they're sitting right here next to me. I wouldn't call ANY of these kiddy games.

Furthermore, I can think of MANY good reasons to release something on gamecube. Not the least of which being it can graphically give the PS2 a sore posterior and actually HAS Dolby 5.1 surround. The only reason I can think of to NOT release something for GC is the rarity of households containing one.

Back to the image itself... Yeah, this looks pretty fake. I could do something just as good in minutes. Also, it does NOT say that it's a GC exclusive ANYWHERE. It says "only for" and then it says something in kanji. Nintendo MIGHT have a kanji, but the corporate logo has ALWAYS been in English. The part at the bottom that says PS2 - GCN says "Kingdom Hearts 2 PS2 - GCN Final Fantasy A.C - DVD" in case you were wondering. There is also a part that says "guumukikoobu" which I can't decipher... "gum kickoff"? Anyway, there's no part that says "only for Gamecube".

Everybody knows that undecipherable kanji are the key to rumor-mongering.

If they ever do another FF sequel, I hope they don't do a shameless graphical and geographical re-hash of the previous game. FFX-2 was ok, but not up to the standards of the FF series.

So, I'm the bad guy for pointing out how narrow minded someone is when it is okay for the other guy to use a deragatory term towards homosexual people(kind of) ? Okay then. :rolleyes2

No one is the 'bad guy'. You broke the rules and I edited it, it doesn't matter what context it's in. Truthfully I missed Black Haze's wordplay, but that is what warn buttons are for, plus there are more mature ways to correct someone.

I think it has been established that this news is fictional, so this thread is done.
