Hey, I'm back. Some of you would have known me as Kilak, and I have decided to check out the Forums.

Anyway, I am writing on a topic that I'm sure many FF fans find very important. An FFVII remake for the PS2.
If you feel strongly about this, I implore you to go around your area, and get everyone to sign a petition, and then send it to me. Only one petition per area, if member live near each other, as we don't want repitition signatures. I'm sure that with such a flow of approval from across the Globe, Square enix must see the advantage to a remake of this classic!

If you make a petition, please send it to:

12 Dellway
Ealing
London W13 8JH
United Kindom (Or Great Britain)

I really hope that all eoff members will seriously consider this, and help out my efforts.
Thanks

Asanohoshe Kilak

PS:

If Kawai Ryukishi is here, please reply, cos I haven't spoken to ya for 2 years, and I need to be brought up to speed with the forum news.

I agree. Awesome game, really needs a rebirth on a more powerful platform. :)

If I find the time I will add my name to any petition you care to make... I love FF7 and I've been wanting to see a remake (hell, even a MOVIE!) for a long time.

A long shot I know but any chance this could be stickied somewhere more appropriate? :)

They are making a movie, but not a remake.

The Petitions should be in your area, as internet petitions don't work. I just need as many different signatures, and then I can group them into country order, and mail em to Square Enix.

I ain't got the power to sticky

I'm back threads aren't allowed. I'm moving this to the FFVII forum.

Sorry, It wasn't meant to be an "I'm back" thread, but I thought I would put it where most people would see it.

Square rarely listens to petitions. I've only seen them do it once and it was the petition to translate Xenogears and give it a US release. I've seen petitions since 1996 to translate FF3, and none have worked. Even petitions to translate FF2 didn't work. What got square to translate that game was the Japanese release of the PS1 version. Petitioning Square to remake a game that they have no desire to remake is less likely. You'd have more luck trying to get them to translate/release the FOMA version of FF1.

sorry to use you as the demo guy, killak, but I got a thread closed because I bleeped out the f-word in its contents. The fair treatment around here - you get to show it off in the title! (Not that it bothers me)

(When I moved the thread, I edited that portion out of the title. From now on, if you have a problem with the contents of a thread, use the warn function or PM a staff member. -------RSL)

Anyway, I would sign that petition. But why ps2 when xbox can just own them rights and then we've got it on the most advanced platform there currently is! What's that? They can't own everything? Tell that to Bill Gates.

In any case the movie looks f.... uh, darn cool. Advent children is the sh... er, stuff!

But seriously. I haven't slept in 35 hours. And Cloud and Sephiroth are the two greatest characters ever. I want them back.

Why would anyone need a remake when you can still play the original game? FFX and the PS2 has spoiled you lot.

If anyone can come up with a solid and feasible reason for Square to remake FF7, they *might* listen to you. But considering that any Joe Shmoe can go to the local video game store, buy a copy of FF7 (Greatest Hits, I might add) and pop it in his PSX, or even his PS2 - I don't see any reason for Square to revamp this game.

I could see a ff7-2 or something like that, a spin-off but I'm with doc france. Why would I spend 100 on a next version of the same game when I could get the original new for 19.99 or probably less now. Plus the old school is cooler, like watching astro boy

While I wouldn't mind a remade version, I received a Playstation 2 last Christmas and was able, for the first time in my life, to play all the great Final Fantasies I missed due to Gamecubes suckiness. I managed to get a hold of FFVII AFTER I bought FFX, which meant that the character graphics just irritate me. Especially now that I've been playing Xenosaga. The background and such is beautiful though. To be honest though, I don't really think there is a point.

No petition for you~!

I'm satisfied with FFVII as it is. I'm not gonna waste my money in buying the exact same game with better graphics.

Square has already stated that they wont remake any game that can still be played on the current console. PS games can be played on PS2, there wont be a remake of VII. Not yet at least.

Maybe in ten to twenty years, if Square is even still around, they might.

I think it's somewhat unfair to penalize a game because its graphics are outdated. Sooner or later every game will have outdated graphics. Heck, there was a time when Pong was state of the art! ;) While I like eye candy as much as the next person, I think storyline and the combat system add more to replay value.

That being said, I would buy a new version of FFVII if they put out a new version of the story.

i highly doubt they would make a remix to FFVII and i wouldn't buy it...unless it has Sephy in it, honestly i think the graphics would have to change, and the plot, maybe make sephiroth a play-able character...for a longer period of the game, but still keep him evil because thats one of the many things that make him the best character. and they should add more characters, and explain more things, like whats happening, i didn't really understand much of anything, and everytime i get to the end of my game, i have to reboot my comp *from scratch* and i just keep getting stuck on the two same points because for some reason my characters are never as strong as they should be. but yeah, if its possible, i think they should remake it, they've got more talent in it now that they have X and XI...altho' i haven't got.. X-2 or XI yet.
They could make it incredible. so in otherwords, i hope they do.:D

I don't think the lack of character graphics affect my opinion of the game, its a great game regardless of them. I just find block-hand man somewhat annoying. The scenery is gorgeous.

Agreed on the character graphics part - especially Barrett in the sailor's uniform, the "bear stuck in a marshmallow." But I don't think that's enough to warrant a remake.

Just being devil's advocate here, but isn't Sword of Mana a remake of a game that's still playable on a current console?

True, but it's pretty hard to find a Gameboy and the original cart for Final Fantasy Adventure any more.

Was it rereleased? I see used copies at EB Games all the time.

Final Fantasy Adventure (Seiken Densetsu), on the Gameboy, was rereleased as Sword of Mana on the GBA.

I know, I have that game. I was talking about Final Fantasy Adventure for normal old Game Boy. Used ones are not hard to find around here, and I was wondering if it was rereleased at some point. :) What was the topic of this thread again?

A bunch of folks hoping that their favorite game will get remade with pretty shiny graphics.

Eh, I'm not too fussed. If it comes out again, hey I may as well buy it, but if it doesn't, I don't care. I'm happy playing the original.

Is it? All I remember is Square saying they wouldnt... and it's better graphics, right? But not like... SUPER graphics like the difference between VII and X.

Heh, go ask Square, not me. :D

Hudson Soft re-released FFL1-3 and FFA I think. This was sometime around the release of the GBC, so I guess maybe about 1998/99 or so?

Anyhoo, the graphical update from SD/FFA to Sword of Mana is pretty drastic. The amount of colors is increased from shades of grey to 16-bit color (it might be better, I never remember specs). To some the point might be moot since it's still sprite based, but I remember when just having COLOR in portable games was a huge deal.

Yeah, its not that much work though, not an entire graphical remake with voice acting and FMVs and all that.

A remake is a bad idea. ^_^

ESPECIALLY with VA's.

*bangs head into desk*

Okay, go play through FFA, then play through SoM, now tell me it's not a huge update.

Sorry, that was rude...

I've seen it. I went and looked. Compartively, it's a huge update. Comparitively. But with the tech today it's easy to make those sorts of graphics. It isnt as time consuming as making a game with graphics like X, do you get what I mean?

Would you compare it to the difference between FF1&2 on the NES and FF:Origins?

Somewhat. The graphics for the GBA are certainly better than the in-game graphics they used for Origins, but that's a good analogy.

Although, FF:O certainly had impressive music that wouldn't be available on the GBA, the NES, or SNES.
