Well I got to thinking, what exactly IS gil? I mean it's the currency in many a FF's. But they ever explain what it truly is. I mean is it soem sort of coin? Paper money? Or maybe truly a gill of a fish or something?
So what exactly is gil?

Maybe it's a little gold or silver coin with a little symbol inscribed on it.

I always imagined it being coins. Coins are cool.

It comes from "gilda," the Old English word for gold. (Compare it to the verb gild (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=gild).) We know it's a coin thanks to the Coin Toss ability.

yeah, in FFVI when you tell Setzer to use "GP Rain" or "Gil Toss", he'll throw disc-like coins. (those coins with holes in the middle).
and in FFVII, if you use "Coin", you choose how much you wanna throw, then ur char throws a bunch of coins.

Sorry people, but in the worlds of FF people use fish heads for currency. :p
Pike heads are worth the most, and trout are in the middle, while catfish are really cheap, kinda like pennies.
