while the inhuman characters lacked the detailed backgrounds and interaction of most human characters, they still shone through.

i would love to have a totally animalistic main character, a giant FF gorilla (like in tranformers beastwars/machines), heck i would love an inhuman main cast.

I like FFs with non-human races in it. I think the whole elves and dwarves thing has been done to death so all these other races (especially Viera) are a nice (and often very very cute) addition.

yeah zidane WASNNT human, but he was almost human....lets face it he was a little smaller and had a monky tail....whoopy lol. no i mean really inhuman like Red was. recently when mattel commistiond a re-design of all it's Masters of the Universe characters, the most inhuman people like BuzzOff (a Beeman) really looked awsome and even cooler than anything human.

im not saying i want quina....but anyone whos watched beastwars/machines will know how cool a giant talking gorilla can be with the ability to summon itself into a darkknight like odin.

As I said (wrote?) before the server change, I like non-human characters as long as they're non-human in behavior too. FFIX didn't do this too well. Even though both Zidane and Freya is non-humans, I just felt they were humans in disguise.

Red XIII and the Ronso, on the other hand, are great examples on how non-humans, should be done. (Quina too, even though I didn't like him, except for his Blue Magic.)

And if they look like Neko Girls, I wouldn't mind at all...

Though not an FF, Xenogears included a lot of great demi-human characters, like Rico, Hammer, Franz, and the Captain of the Thames (because... I AM! A MAN! OF THE SEA!!!)

zidane and freya were very human...but since freya travelled amongst the humans alot it didnt bother me, at least she WAS distinctly differnt. Kimahri was also very human. we have to understand that the workings of the japanese are so differnt from almost ANY nationality on earth that you could be mistaken for thinking thye are not human but living dolls. man has many variations but each allows for them to still be classed as mankind..well today anyway, not long ago this provided the excuse for slavery throughout history which currently we still exert on our brothers - animals.
The thing is that all the pixar movies have proven our current ability to relate to inhuman guises and shapes...so why does the hero always have to be human and mostly male.

i guess the mostly male comes from japans messed up system. after all the ancient celts over here were most oftenly ruled by women...women make the best fighters because they can be more focused, cruel and precise. despite their character flaws all the women we have trained in swordfighting have been the better fighters...but often all we get from FF is a giggling mess lol

Red is inhuman but is, well, dog-like.

Would it work to have a completely alien figure? And not only that, but alien senses as well? All the inhuman characters are always based around human senses...which use vibrations in the air for sound for hearing...reflection of light for seeing...are there any non-magical ways of sensing your environment besides the ones we're used to?

A tribal village in a jungle area..and that way the main charcould be a catperson who forgot where they were from or something and find the village and everything falls into place or something

I like inhuman characters, or just things that are sorta human but not, like Zidane and Eiko. FFIX was great because it had such a range of characters. It's much more "fantasy" to me, not to have all normal human characters.

zanarkend.....and it had nothing to do with water. FFX is simple. zanarkand and bevelle are both powerful and go to war.....zanakand has summoners but bevelle is nasty and summons sin who destroys zanakand and dooms teh world for the next 1000 years.

FFX2 is fun.

the sea elf theory wouldnt seem dull because not only would you be exploring teh whole oceans with many differnt sea life forming civilisations but you would have pirates and ladn dwellers being the villians lol. if you really think it would turn out like the little murmaid....read Michel Turners Fathom....that will change your mind

A human character can be just as annoying as a non-human character. For me, it depends on whether they're a serious character or not. For example, Cait Sith in FFVII was not a serious character and I don't think he really added anything to the game, though he doesn't particularly bug me. Freya in FFIX, while I didn't like that game at all, was pretty cool.

When I saw the non-human character for FFXII... I don't know what to think. Sexy-looking furry with GIANT bunny ears. xD I think they'll be cool.

sorry doc but i was spot on...so perhaps you havent finished it or played FFX2. Zanakand is a technological wonder city, so to is Bevelle, but zanakand and bevelle both have summoners and bevelle launches a war. (this is where Shuyin and lenn from FFX2 come in). ultimatly bevelle, creating YuYevon, create sin who destroys zanarkand. All of zanakand is destroyed, but the thoughts and personalitys of it's people are preserved in teh dream of the fayth (summons). summons are actually brave warriors who became fayth. YuYevon attachs itself to a powerful aeon and forms SIN.
Tidus came from teh memories (dream) of zanakand.....hinted in FFX2 that he was a distortion of Shuyin, but we dont truly know as tidus has his own identity and his farther did become sin.
when tidus finlly travels to zanakand a thousand years in teh future it is a dead city, a relic and tome where the spirit of the great summoner Yunalesca transforms one of your buddies into teh final aeon to defeat sin.

so in the end tidus vanishes...but he ends up on the farplane, which, to me , proves tidus was real and so was Shuyin.

Er, skipping all of the thread because it's so long, I love non-human characters, although there shouldn't be more than three of them in a game, and if there are three, one or two should be humanoids or possibly a robot. You shouldn't have more than one totally non-human character. VII did this very well - they had one totally non-human character, one robot controlled by a human and one ... uh, Vincent. Red XIII, to me, is the greatest non-human character that has been created in a Final Fantasy game. Although any chocobo has to be right up there, too, although I can't remember if any of them were really playable. Boko? *forgot*

i agree LoonyBob, Nanaki is teh best so far...i think helped by the sheer inhuman look of his character.
i think pixar proved that you can relate to nonhuman shapes (something ive known long enough being around animals) and still be bought up by a mass market.

again i would advise people to nip over to their local comic shop, dont be afraid, and pick up back issues of Fathom, it's only a nine issue story by michel turner.....you wont be dissapointed...even if you only like sexy chicks.

Fathom basically tells the tale of an ancient underwater society of good looking sexy atlantians (tho never refferd to as atlantis) on earth. Aspen, the female heroine was found as a child by a navy captian and adopted. some years later as a sexy marine biologist she encounters mysterius stuff underwater and shes dragged into a ancient and secret war, only to discover she is far from human (yep shes one of them). all the men and women are impossibly attractive and teh technology is cooly based on coral etc. so the whole serise is a great design and a far cry from the little mermaid

If you want to read an awesome comic revolving around inhuman anthro-ish characters, you should read JACK. Its the only comic I've EVER liked, and I've became obsessed with it.

Its an online web comic, but I'm not going to post a link to it here because I know theres alot of younger people around here, and its a comic intended for 18+ (some sexual situations...not smut or whatever, extreme violence, and it deals with alot of other mature situations), and I'd rather not take the chance of being banned.

If your interested in JACK, you can PM me and I'll give you the link. I highly recommend it to anyone who reads comics/manga.

Wow. It's amazing. I just found another fan of Jack. That, sadly, seems to be quite rare. I too am obsessed with it. I think everyone should at least give it a try.

But on topic, I do like having non-human characters in any game really, it brings more diversity into the cast instead of a strict and boring routine of nothing more than humans. Going along with others, Nanaki is my favorite non-human character in any Final Fantasy game, heck, in most games period, but that is still not to say that other non-human characters suck... I quite liked Freya, Kimahri, and of course Mog. I think it'd be awesome if a non-human was the star of a future Final Fantasy.

what about Giant Robots. Transformers, evengelion and Dangioh are all excellent interpretations of living giant robots (eva isnt even a robot). i watched some really cool cgi toon on channel five with a black robot and a crimson robot, all round and shiny and humanoid and they just shone.....i want a battle robot lol

true...it's the fact that the inhumans were "captured" (Red XIII), released, and become helpful (and kick ass :bgl: ) (i dont know if this applies to Kihmari Ronso from FFX cuz i've never played it, so...)

as for the pictures...they look somewhat like they've come from Neverwinter Nights, or some other D&D game, so i'd say they're okay.

your right tasty...i dont agree with this fad over fit and slim....for male or female, even when ive been a bit chunky ive still been as good with a sword and won all my important fights, many of our mature studants are larger than is healthy for them and they still perform, lucky for me im vege so all my wiaght comes from potatoes, my bods still healthy, but the next hero shouldnt always bee a brad pitt

tidus is human as far as an FF game goes....and zidane has a tail...wow thats differnt. we said at the start of this whole thing that people who almost resemble human form like zidane dont count because they may as well be human, we mean something like Red or kimahri etc

yes. we're not talking about HUMANOID beings, like elves or halflings or things like that that resemble humans too much.
we're talking about beings that are only the slightest way resembling humans. it is the combination of the best of human attributes (intelligence, common sense...which some humans dont have anyway...meh) and the best of the animal attributes (strength, speed, reflexes, etc.) that is what makes inhuman characters so great, and even better than humans.

the fact is you can get messed up animals like you can get messed up people....the differance is that we have more choice

and we can also cause more danger and destruction than anything else. i mean, look at it. Humans have World Wars and mass holocausts and stuff like that. When in nature the worst thing you'll ever see is...a locust swarm or something like that in which the damaged stuff can be replaced easily.

This is why i also argue with myself about which is better: living in teh city or the country. Living in the city you get more convenience and all that, whilest living in the country you get closer to nature and less humans around...which i like.

yes mankind does cause destruction and hurt on a large scale...and it does so without remorse or leanring anything from it...building up excuses. nature can do some horrible unfair things as well, but it doesnt have teh ability to make up excuses for itself.

the city should be the same as the country, thats why man is going against nature despite depending on it

that is true, and that's why animals hunt and forage for themselves. and as for humans being able to shop for supplies, the people that made the supplies took it from nature. I once saw a hat on sale with a feather from a Bird of Paradise. I had to look away quickly because it reminded me of what people do to get that feather.
