How many of you kids are about to go to prom? And for those of us who are older than the rest, how was your HS prom? If you didn't go, what do you think of it? Is it stupid, something you ought to go, something you should go to, or what?

I didn't go to my prom. From the pictures I saw in the yearbook, I'm sure I didn't miss much. In high school I was more of a loner despite having several cliques of friends (HS band, some misc friends, my elementary school guy friends, um....that girl I had a crush on (gah) ). So the idea of hanging out with a bunch of graduates didn't appeal to me. Okay it sort of did. I wanted to ask out a friend of mine when I heard her BF left her. That's a complicated tale which ended with me finding out from a friend that they got back together. I think she thinks/thought I have a crush on her. I probably did too.

So I didn't go to prom nor did I go to graduation (somebody was supposed to drive me there, but that never happened, and I never went in the morning to sign in and get a robe anyway. My parents were out of town). So I seriously didn't put much weight in the idea of high school. A year later, in my karate class, a friend of mine asked me to consider escorting her to her HS prom. I took a week to decide and agreed. We exchanged numbers and I was told to pick up her corsage and whatever flower I'm supposed to have in my jacket pocket (can somebody tell me what the term is? You'll see why it's important later). So the day of the prom I got dressed up in that silly black suit that my parents bought me for hypothetically my prom/graduation (haha) and got a ride to the florist, and then to my friend's house. I think I was fifteen minutes early. I went in, met the folks, got some silly pictures taken, met some parents of her friends (and her friends), and talked a bit in the back yard, where more pictures were taken (I still have it somewhere...framed).

We got a ride to just around the corner of the prom place. We scurried inside and people started socialising. Something I learned there is that if you don't socialise nobody knows you. We took couples pictures (I still have mine). It's a silly little pose where my left arm is around her waist, her right arm is around my back, we hold hands in the front, and smile like geeks. It LOOKS very nice, but it was very awkward for me to hold the pose. Then it was off to the dining hall. We were early so there were not many people around. I got seated and observed the environment until food was served. Chicken and something. I think that was the only time there was lull in the conversation. After dinner they started to play music, but we had to rest. In fact, since this was before I loved to dance, I think I didn't dance for a while. I did slow dance for EVERY slow song they played though. I love high school slow dances. Guy grabs on to girl's waist, girl grabs on to guy's shoulders, and the couple turns around in circles awkwardly for five minutes. It sounds corny but I think at the time the mentality accepted it as 'romantic'. I sure thought so, though not romantic as the couple we are.

After the prom was over (I think it ended at 2; I don't have my ticket any more; it's been years and I decided to rid myself of the stuff finally), we left and walked to a hotel that one of the parents rented (a room). A single couple checked in, so as to not draw suspicion (there were six of us, and two more were coming *gasp*). We piled into the elevator and went to our room. There was booze brought along (was it brought when we went to the prom? I have no idea). I got really drunk for the first time in my life and passed out when they were playing truth or dare. They just thought I was bored/tired. Afterwards, we all piled into bed. There were eight of us, so two of the girls took a chair/floor, while the two males (myself and another date) shared a bed with two females. It became a sort of esoteric joke later when my date referenced the night she slept with a guy and a girl xD.

So that's the story of the only prom I've been to. Incidentally, earlier tonight Tokki ( ) asked me to go to her prom with her. I said no at first, but I changed my mind later. Hope she says yes! xD I'm such a flake!

Okay now share your prom stories/opinions!

Myself because I'm an antisociable loner who shouldn't go to proms but we call them balls here, balls probably spelt different like bawls or borls or sacks or something but who gives a damn.

I'm only a sophomore, but I do plan on going to my prom in **counts** two years. Afterwards, we have this thing called Mirage, in which we all lock ourselves in the school **shudder**, and they turn the inside of the school into a casino and gamehouse. It's supposedly a lot of fun. I buy cookies every Friday to support it.

My prom was thoroughly uneventful. Nothing terribly memorable.

My prom was awful. I mean, yes, it was in this amazing restaurant on the Biltmore Estate (big house near me) and it was pretty, but nobody did ANYthing. No dancing, no cutting up, no anything. I ended up going home around 2. I was sad.

Everybody (who was over 18) got really wasted, one of the P.E. teachers was dancing like Elaine Bennis, and the D.J. played Jump Around by House Of Pain twice. Best night ever.

My friends are trying to get me to go, but I don't go to those kinds of things. I hate public places. So I'm not going.

I didn't go to my senior prom since the only girl I asked laughed at me...

I might be going, but I dont wanna go by myself. I be like the loner sitting down with a group of buds who all came by themselves, maybe some chicks are going by themselves to. But yeah, I know who Ill ask, I might get rejected or might not. That's life for you.

I went to Prom my Junior Year. It sucked so much I wanted to cry. I went to winter formal this past January hoping it would be better and it sucked worse that Prom. Plenty of my friends are trying to get me to go to my Senior Prom but there's no way in hell I'm wasting another night at a High School dance.

It's only as fun as you make it. Maybe you need some fun friends.

"noname", if you go by yourself you can ask the single girls there to dance. That way it'll be cool. My friend Dan went to his prom dateless, but he had a magnificent white tuxedo. He asked girls to dance and they all danced with him. I want that sort of experience :p

I just realised that a simple suit/shirt/tie combo isn't going to be that extravagent. I'm also trying to decide whether to wear boots or not, because my dress shoes aren't all that and a bag of potato chips. (but my boots are)

Ooh, I don't remember what this is like AT ALL. I think I'm going to ask my roommates for help later XD!!!!

After my junior year of High School I spent the summer taking online courses. Graduated High School a year early so no prom, no formal graduation. Immediately enlisted and finished Basic Combat Training before turning 18. Gotta have priorities right?

Sometimes I feel like I missed out but then I look back at all my accomplishments and feel better.

They played Chingy ALL NIGHT LONG O_O Besides, as soon as my friends and I left the tiny Club House for the beach we had a fantastic time. Freaking in a hot, cramped little room with horrible music isn't my thing, it has nothing to do with what kind of friends I have.

Oh. OH! OH PROM!

My senior prom was filled with too much drama. First of all, the guy I wanted to go with didn't have any money to go. Then another guy I was supposed to go with backed out on me at the last second.

So then my best friend Angie had been going out with her boyfriend Keith for 4 years. Then all of the sudden, a week before prom, she finds out that he's been cheating on her with our other close friend Alina. So she dumps him and goes with another guy to prom. I don't have a date and neither does my friend Kristin, so we go together.

So when we get to the resturant, Keith and Alina show up as well to eat at the same resturant. Massive tears ensued. The whole evening was them being pissed at each other.

Then my other friend Shelley! So she had been asked to prom by a guy she worked with about two months before prom. And when prom finally came around, she didn't want to go with him, she wanted to go with her ex for some reason. So she basically ignored him the entire night and talked with her ex at dinner and danced with her ex. So I talked to him at dinner, kept him entertained at the dance, etc. We had our prom in an Art Museum, so me and him just wandered around the museum for 2 hours. Then Shelley has the nerve to say that I was a bitch and I stole her date even though she ignored him the entire night.

Oh, and my dress was the prettiest.

I'm going to make sure Tokki's friends aren't insane now...*backs away slowly*

My Sixth Form ball sucked because it involved Shaz thrashing at me with horrible things like make up and glitter and flowers. I went with stupid girly people, who only wanted to do girly things and prance around, so I ended up protesting agains Mrs Anskim's fur coat, and then going and burning things with candles and being amnespeptic.

Seventh form was infinitely better, with almost no makeup, and absolutely no dancing. Still burning things, and passing notes, and Danielle and Towns started an ice fight. Stayed right through to the end and then went to Mather's to get ready for the Model United Nations Assembly. VIVA EL FUTBAL! That was probably more fun because it involved ponchos and falling asleep during Helen Clark's big speechee thing.

I went to my high school's senior ball during 7th form (final year of highschool), and went alone. Made a half-arsed attempt to ask one of the few girls I knew, but she had other commitments.
It was a decent night, a lot of friends there.
For the last two years, I've gone to my hall's annual ball, quite a good affair held at a local raceway. Practically everyone goes, so there's little point to 'asking someone out'.

I might go to the Law Students' Society ball in July... I hate being around big groups of drunken student louts though, so we'll see. Might go alone, but that prospect would decrease the chances that I'll go at all.
Hmph.
I'm a bit disenchanted when it comes to 'socializing', anyway. I might ask a friend to come along, maybe not.

Ball = chance to unleash my awesome iridescent purple shirt, tho'.

Hmm some of that part in the story of PGs sounds like me this year, she's about to break up with him and I'm going to try and ask her to the prom in the short time between her breaking up and her getting back together with her old ex that I don't like.

Do it quickly. Apply the boyfriend destroyer tactic asap after you have any sort of rapport. If you need advice don't hesitate to PM/IM me. I'm assuming you're confident here. I can't help you with that (well I can, but it's more like "who cares about her" confidence, which is a pretty mean way of saying "you're fine the way you are")

hurry, time is of the essence and stuff.

Went to my ball last year. I thought it was pretty cool and it actually was quite fun. I just went with friends and then met up with other friends and took heaps of photos. Hopefully this year it'll be better.

I went last year and got really drink after. I plan on goign this year but getting really drunk first. :)

Peegee
04-16-2004, 12:24 PM
Don't get really drunk BEFORE you go. You lose motor function (or optimal motor control), and act like a fool. Yes it doesn't matter in the long run, but you'll have a better time if you weren't trying to hold down your vomit or something.

Weirdo.

Oh, get high before you go. That's like a 'duh'.

I went to mine last year only because my girlfriend at the time made me. All I did was hang with the guys in the parking lot, Drink lots of soda there :rolleyes2 and we all smoked cigars with the principle since he didnt care. Wasnt worth the money for me...I ended up spending like $500!!

fire_of_avalon
04-16-2004, 02:45 PM
Hehe, I'm a girl and I spent under $300 and STILL looked good. Go me!!!

My boyfriend went to three proms last year, because he was the funnest guy anybody really knows....because HE DANCES, and dances well. He didn't come to mine though, he was in London.

Like I was saying before, my biggest problem with prom was that nobody did anything. I didn't go my junior year and all my friends kept telling me it would be so much better with me there because I would dance and do things and not stand around. And I get there, ready to party, and all my friends want to do is stand around. Honestly, I went to an 80's themed semi formal this past winter, and it was a million times funner. At least I got to make up for it :D

Peegee

You seriously need to bring party machines to proms and other high school functions -- they act as some sort of motivator for others. It's as if both males and females are all scared of each other even though the lot of you are probably eighteen years old. Sheesh!

Some of my friends are insane. One in particular is only insane on Thursdays, so I hope it wears off before the day of prom, because she throws mints at people. :|

Mine is in 34 days or something. Even just the planning part is so exciting! n___n

HOW SHOULD I DO MY HAIR?
SHOULD I GET A PEDICURE?
SHOULD I WEAR MAKEUP?
DO I HAVE TO HOLD ONE OF THOSE SMALL PURSES THE ENTIRE NIGHT?
WHICH AFTER PARTY SHOULD I GO TO?
IS MY DATE GOING TO BE HOT?

Peegee

HOW SHOULD I DO MY HAIR? I like girls with hair that is down, but this isn't about me; it's about YOU. Maybe you can go uber elegant and have some hair over an eye, and wear the rest of it up or really elegantly braided. I haven't thought about female hair styles in a while, so I think nothing I just said is sensible.

SHOULD I GET A PEDICURE? I'm going to cut my nails. You can do whatever you want.

SHOULD I WEAR MAKEUP? Don't wear perfume pls, unless it's a nice scent (not strong)

DO I HAVE TO HOLD ONE OF THOSE SMALL PURSES THE ENTIRE NIGHT? Do you usually carry a big purse with more things than an army backpack? I think all you need is touch-up makeup, your ID, wallet (or some money), a mirror, comb (maybe), and whatever else you must have (lip balm or whatever)

WHICH AFTER PARTY SHOULD I GO TO? I want to go to one that's fun.

IS MY DATE GOING TO BE HOT? That's up to you. You've seen my pics in the album

I guess I'm going next year. My friends and I agreed to just go in a group together if we can't find dates. But it's really expensive and everyone I know who went this year said it kinda sucked. So maybe I'll just stay home and play StarCraft instead. ;)

I was probably going to leave my hair down in any case, and my hair is cut so it goes over my eyes anyways. I was thinking more should I straighten it or curl it.

And my normal purse is small, but dirty, and made of jeans, and thus would not match my dress, but even if it did I wouldn't allow ot within 10 metres of my beautiful dress because it's DIRTY and my dress is BEAUTIFUL.

PS; be hot plex.

I refused to go to my prom because I hated the school and this place so much and I still do. My Yevon, this place is indeed hell, and room full of hicks with country tunes playing is nothing I'd care to attend.

But if I would of still been at my prior school (Norwalk HS, in Norwalk, CA), then I would have went.
