i'm having trouble getting some enemy skills...

namely white wind and big guard/might guard/whatever

all the guides say you can learn white wind from the Zemzelette (big bird thing around Junon), and learn big guard from Beachplug (squid thing on Le Sol beaches). The problem is, THEY NEVER USE THE SKILLS. How am i supposed to learn them if the enemy doesn't use them?

i thought of maybe it was the same concept that is in effect for X-2 where you must confuse the enemy so they'll use curative skills on your blue mage-type character. however VII is a few years older and i don't know if "confuse the enemy" trick applied.

i confused some beachplugs hoping theyd use big guard but they just killed each other with ice attacks...

There is a Materia that lets you take control of your enemy, I don't remember what it was, though. It exists, but I can't put my finger on the name on it. Perhaps someone else could help me out here.

Manipulate. Cait Sith starts with one I think.

Manipulate.
Couldn't have been easier.

Confusing the enemy does work, but it's rather unreliable.

Manipulate works about like, 30 or 40% of the time, meaning you can't manipulate all monsters.

I recently discovered a theory that Dragon Zombies cast Pandora's Pox as a last resort the first time you fight them and never after that. I could have saved myself a lot of grief had I known that sooner. :eep:

Believe me, I share your frustration with getting E-skills. FFVII may have among the best selection of Blue Magic, but it can be a pain to get all of them.

Almost certain that isn't true, I remember vaguely coming up with a system to get it to cast Pandora's Box, but it's still a fairly long process.

I always use Manipulate. Always! :)

yesh. and, i have a question about enemy skills, too.

where do i find the Angel's Blessing e.skill (or whatever it's called), and what enemy do i fight to get it? I heard somewhere that Angels' Blessing is like Life3 in FFVI.

and, if you have any other good e.skills that i should get, tell me. I already have the following:

Flamethrower
Beta
Trine
Matra Magic
Death Sentence
Pandora's Box
Magic Breath
Big Guard
Dragon Force
Death Force
White Wind
Aqualung
Shadow Flare
Bad Breath

and that's all i remember.

I thought the word Manipulate was longer than I thought the name of the Materia was.

And you can get Angel Whisper from Pollensata (sp?) in The Crater.

The name of the marteria is Manipulate. The name of the command is Manip. :D

Cloudane

Yup, just manip. Easy as pie. I think there's an accessory you can get called the "Hypnocrown" which will increase the likelihood of manip hitting... otherwise just keep trying!

I thought of that 100 times while writing that post. But I thought the word 'Manip' was stupid.

FF7 is strange like that... I thought for most of my first play that I was dealing with materiaL because the game usually adds a ! on the end (You picked up a materia!) and it looks like an 'l' *shrugs*

PhoenixAsh, care to share you system of getting Pandora's Box? :greenie:

ForeverZeroUltima, be sure to get Bad Breath from Malboro's. It casts almost every negative status ailment in the game at once. Just equip ribbons before you take one on (you can morph Tonberries to get ribbons).

where do i find the Angel's Blessing e.skill (or whatever it's called), and what enemy do i fight to get it? I heard somewhere that

Angels' Blessing=Angel whisper:the women in the yellow swimsuits in the Northern Crater if you take the right path the first time you meet everyone

other than that you have all of them worth getting. I've gotten them all, and trust me the rest aren't worth getting, minus to say you got them

ForeverZeroUltima
04-20-2004, 01:54 AM
oh yeah i did get Bad Breath. *adds that to the list*

woman in the yellow suit? *blinks* i took the right path before but kept running into Dragon zombies and those guys with scissors for hands and legs.

How do you learn any e.skills
I know that in ff9 you use the ability Eat with Quina to learn blue magic but how do you learn this in ffVII

BG-57

Pick up the up to four E-skill materia lying around various places. Equip it in a weapon or armor with at least normal growth slots. If a monster that can use one of the learnable E-skills casts it on a party member with the materia equipped, they will learn that skill. You can only get some of the E-skills by manipulating the appropriate monster.

How do I get the Midgar Zolom to use Beta??? :mad2:

He can't be manipulated, I tried a million times, with hypno crown equipped as well.

Sephiroth_Lionhear88
04-27-2004, 11:58 AM
you can't make the zolom use beta. it just uses it. when I fought it it always used it after I did a few thousand damage so just kick his ass

Death Sign
04-27-2004, 12:11 PM
... I has all the E-Skills at the E-skill materia... Whit other words a full Enemy skilled materia!... Beta was one of the easier once! I just used Gravity at Zolom until he had so little HP that I could use matra magic... then when it is in great crises for Zolom he'll raise him self about many feets higher any way it is when he is in for the Beta or Tail whipin away a party member... I've never seen him do does things in another position! So go for it a keep on fighting!

ForeverZeroUltima

is there any good ones you wanna mention? :p

Stayin Dizzy

I have all the enemy skills, and for the most part they suck IMO. The only ones I ever actually use are big guard, shadowflare, pandoras box, and angel whisper

Death Sign
04-29-2004, 08:47 AM
Naaa they are good...! I use WhiteWind, Angels Whisper, PandorasBox, BigGuard and even Chocolbuckle... Since I got 5-9 escapes until I can use it for Lucky Seven Status... Ya knew it is a good skill eyy? every time you escape it gets stronger whit 1!!!

I only have so troubles to get Shadow Flare. The Zombie Dragon does it on the charachter without the E-skill materia

ForeverZeroUltima

just to clarify...

Angel Whisper IS like Life3 in FFVI? (when you die, you automatically revive with 10% of your full health).

I heard Angel Whisper healed HP and status and could be obtained by Manipulating Parasites in the crater. Not sure, I'll check it out.

No, you have to manipulate Pollensaltas.

BG-57

Manipulating Parasites is still worthwhile. They can teach Level 5 Death and Magic Breath.

My bad. I knew they taught something. I started a new file recently. I'm on Disc 3, but I haven't been to the crater yet.

Unless you want to master the Enemy Skill materia, the only good ones are:

White Wind
Big Guard
Magic Breath
Pandora's Box
Maybe Shadow Flare(I don't remember the MP cost)

All the rest are optional and you'll never use them. The first three are pretty easy to get.

I wish you could get Pandora's Box earlier then a few steps away from the last Jenova fight. ;_;

I found Trine and Beta useful for the first two-thirds of the game. They eliminated the need to carry around Fire and Bolt magic materia (except for Elemental effects).

Also I found some interesting combinations of effects involving E-skills:

1) Level 4 Suicide and Morph: As long as the enemy is a level in a multiple of 4, the critical damage will make morphing or killing them a lot easier. It makes short work of Malboros.

2) Death Force and Roulette: If you cast Death Force on your party members, they are unaffected by Roulette. It may also work if they're equipping the Safety Bit (I'll have to test it out).

Maybe Shadow Flare(I don't remember the MP cost)

TRINE. Oh yes, forgot about that. Can be learned really early in the game, costs almost no MP(10), and is decently strong. Definitely the best offensive Enemy Skill, and possibly the best offensive spell, in the first disc.

Magic hammer is useful too, but yeah, like most FF games the majority of E-skills are useless. Trine is awesome though.

Yeah, I finnally got Shadow Flare, but now. I cannot get hold of:

????? (But that is a piece of cake, will have it soon)
Aqualung ( Where, can I find it. I know those Serpent have it, but they don't use it and Manipulate doesn't work)
Chocobuckle (This one is hard, somone has a tip??)
Death Force (Where is this Admantaimai? Do you know how many beaches the West Continent has????)
Magic Hammer (Again the West Continent is big, where is Razor Weed?)

The rest I got. But I want them all, don't matter how crappy they are

Aqualung ( Where, can I find it. I know those Serpent have it, but they don't use it and Manipulate doesn't work) What sepent? I always got it in the desert outside Gold Saucer. Some three headed thing I think.

Chocobuckle (This one is hard, somone has a tip??) Use L4 Suicide on the Chocobos outside the farm or Mideel.

Death Force (Where is this Admantaimai? Do you know how many beaches the West Continent has????) Beach near Wutai.

Magic Hammer (Again the West Continent is big, where is Razor Weed?) Inside Wutai, the mountain part where you rescue Yuffie.

Okay, my turn. I need to know where to get Trine, other than the Materia Keeper or Godo.

Del Murder
08-01-2004, 04:35 AM
There is an enemy inside the frozen mountain that uses Trine. I don't remember what it is called. It's pretty big, though, and you only fight one alone in a battle. You can't go back there when you get the airship so this is your last chance to get it!

Raistlin
08-01-2004, 05:08 AM
It's a big, red scorpion type thing. Up in the Gaia Cliffs(beginning of disc 2). They also cast Magic Breath - the best all-enemies attacking Enemy Skill until Pandora's Box.

*hits self on the forehead* I can't believe I can't think of the bloody name. Bah.

Materia Keeper and Godo were really your best bet, though. After disc 1, Trine just keeps on getting less and less useful. You'll be using Magic Breath, which, IMO, is better than Ultima.

Del Murder
08-01-2004, 05:12 AM
Well, if you want to get three E-Skill materia with all of them on there, you have to get it from the guy in the cave for at least one of them, or wait to fight Godo until after you have the Highwind.

Jolts
08-01-2004, 08:27 AM
Stilva is the scorpion thing. I found out that, since I already fought Godo, I won't be able to get Trine on the fourth E-Skill, but I'm not worried abou that, since there can only the three people in battle at one time (Bizzaro-Sephiroth doesn't count, 'cause I never switch over  ).

Thanks though.
