Most of you remember me as the person who complained about this game about 2 years before it was released. I came to the arrangement with other people after bickering for 5 pages that I would play the game before continuing to express my contempt of the game. Well after finally coming around to getting it, I can safely say I will have it by this weekend. I will be playing the PS2 version because I am not willing to install new hardware on this machine (due to the fact that it would negate my warranty). I'll post my first thoughts when I get the game.

/farewell

You never know. Times change. I thought I'd had enough of MMORPGs--and of Final Fantasy--as well. Guess not, eh?

Just play until your lvl 35ish and beat mission 10 before you say alot. Because like every game, it starts a bit slow, but it gets better as you play.

I find just the opposite. Like in RO, I loved it to death at first, until I hit about level 30, and it became nigh impossible to level (i.e., I could play all day and still not level). Same in FFXI. I enjoy playing low-level characters, because the wait between levels isn't so interminable, and hence levelling's not so tedious.

Mmm thats funny because until lvl 50 genkai lvl quest, the exp you gain should be managable. I can lvl once a day before 50 because you only have like 7K or so exp and you can gain 3K per hour with a good party, 5 if you got a RDM or BRD giving Refresh to you. AFter 50 is when it gets tedious like in most MMOs.

I'm on 58 here, and it's not that bad, but then again, I'm trying to beat someone to 60, so I'd keep leveling even if it was 75,000 EXP to the next level.

On a Diablo scale on time-to-level, what level is 60? Is it lower or higher than levels on Diablo?

Much harder then D2. This game was meant to make you work to level and take a bit and not get there over night. Plus no powerleveling either. Well unless you got some high level white mage back packing you, but even then all they do is keep you up or lower your downtime.

Oh, I think that buffs could make a *big* difference early in the game.

But the trick is finding a high-level white mage who will back you. WHMs don't exactly grow on trees, you know.

I can agree that near the end of MMORPGs, leveling can get tedious.

Towards the final 10 levels in Everquest for the PS2, it was averaging me about a week to gain one level, and I played about 5-6 hours a day.

What I love about FFXI however, is that if you beat a tough monster, the exp you get shows it.

Let's take an example here: 4200 exp to the next level

Kill an incredibly tough, get 200 exp. Kill an even match, get 50 exp.
That's four times more exp.

Let's look at evequest now. 250,000,000 exp to the next level.

Kill an incredibly tough, get 280,000 exp. Kill an even match, get 242,000 exp. I don't think that's very rewarding at all.

For that reason alone, I feel that Final Fantasy XI is a bit less tedious than other MMORPGs, but it still is tedious. Another thing is I hear the game lacks high end raid content. More often than not, motivation for reaching the last level is to go raiding and lay a beat down on all sorts of uber mobs. Someone might be able to correct me on this, but I hear FFXI doesn't have much of that yet.

If someone on the quetzacoatle server needs some powerlevelling, here's one white mage that'll do so for free. Just search for Pompidou. If I come up as a black mage, don't fret - I'm levelling my subjob. Give me a tell and that you're from EoFF and I'll do what I can.

When you get high level you compete in ballista now, just to beat the crap out of people from other nations and make your nation all uber cool like.

Too bad I'm not that high yet. :(

You do know the lowest lvl is 30 for 600gil entry, theres also one for 7.2K that is no lvl restrictions. So there you go. no need to be super high.

You have to achieve Rank 10 for your nation's Flag.
