We've never had a swear filter here, for as long as I was around, except when Sean enabled it so he could run Google ads. I pushed to disable the swear filter because I thought people here were deserving of the respect not to have their words filtered. I figured that treating people with such respect might cause them to treat us with respect too, and follow the rules we've set in place, i.e. avoiding profanity as much as possible. If people lack respect for the staff and the other members to the point where they won't do something so simple as avoiding the use of a few words, then what good is a swear filter? Then not only do we still have those people who lack respect for everyone else here, but we also make them mad by filtering their words; and then we have people getting around the swear filter with neat little <b></b> tricks and such, and then I have to go around yelling at them; and we have people who figure "It'll filter my posts for me, so what the #@$%, I'll say whatever I @#$!@% want", which is worse in the long run.

The real solution is that we leave the swear filter off, and people stop being jerks.

Don't get me wrong. I am against the swear filter also but because I don't care what people say. If you guys go into my posts and edit something because I was being abusive or anything like that, then I am okay with it. Just say that you edited it or else it looks like that is what I wrote and it isn't(which drives me to go back and unedit your edit).

The big one is when someone goes into a post and edits out the word **** when it is already edited due to the swear filter. What the **** is up with that? If you guys are going to do that then just have it so that the word never even shows up and save yourselfs so trouble.

I just made this thread because someone keeps going in and editing that kind of stuff out.

I replace swear words in people's posts with :love:, without leaving a mesage that I did so. If you have that little respect for me, why should I bother telling you when I have to edit the crap out of your posts? Don't swear at all and then no one will edit your posts. Happy solution.

Put the filter on and then we don't have problem with anyone. These type of things are out there because people can't be trusted. I could say the same thing about you and respect. If you respected me then you would respect my freedom of speech. Thats the best arguement you could possibly attempt to come up with.

Like I said. I don't care that much that you guys go and edit posts but when you edit an edited word completely out of the whole sentence what the bunnies is up? Save your self the time and just set arf to nothingness! It saves you trouble and it makes my posts funnier.

This thread serves no purpose any longer. ed, I know you're not a moron; I would ask that you please stop acting like one. I think you love to push us and try to make us mad on purpose, for whatever reason, but there's only so much we're going to take.
