I was playing FF7 again and I noticed that in the back of the game case it shows Aeris dead. I still don't get why they put the biggest spoiler in the game on the back of the case? Any explainions??

I talked about this with my friend the other day, but we couldn't come up with a good explanation. But you know, on the other hand it doesn't look like she's... you know.

What case are you talking about? The American PS case doesn't have any pictures of Aeris on it at all.

I'm pretty sure it's the PAL one only. That's what mine has on the back.

Yeah, but you can't tell she's dead in that picture. When I first saw it, it looked like a pic of Cloud and Aeris swimming at the base of a waterfall.

Right, you understand the picture now but it would mean nothing to you when you first saw the picture before playing the game. Same thing with previews for movies. When you see the previews it's just a bunch of random events in a short to make you want to see the movie. After seeing the movie watching a preview makes you realize that they took some of their preview material from crucial scenes in the movie, but because it's a preview, you don't know that they are crucial scenes.

Yeah, there was a clip of that scene in the FFVII trailer they showed in theaters. The "a love that could never be, and a hatred that always was" bit. Certainly couldn't tell she was dead when I saw it.

therealquigmaster, maybe you look at the case and see Aeris dead because you know already know it happens. Kind of like seeing a movie trailer after you've seen the movie and seeing things that people who haven't seen the movie wouldn't see. Maybe a person who hasn't played the game wouldn't look at that picture and think of Aeris' death scene.

Definitely not on the North American case.

To help end the confusion, here's the back of the PAL box with the picture in question: http://www.geocities.com/lightsoul_dash/ff7back.jpg

"Eco-warriors"? "The lives of every soul in the universe"? The screenshot is clearly far from being the worst part of this packaging.

Eco warriors, revive the RAINFORESTS!

So what does the NTSC one look like?

I didn't realise she was dead either. I never even made the connection between the characters until playing it through...

The description of the NA case is so much more awesome.

"...quite possibly the greatest game ever made."

"An epic adventure across 3 cd-roms."

"What begins as a rebellion against an evil corporation becomes much more. And what erupts goes beyond imagination."

"With vivid landscapes, lush 3D animation and environments, Square Soft's multi-million dollar masterpiece is like nothing ever seen before. And it is only on PlayStation."

"Towers over the competition in terms of graphics, sounds, story, and playability."

Just makes you want to play it... just enough info to get you hooked, and not enough to give anything away. I was blown away when I first played it. And when I most recently played it... Ahhh... < / nostalgia >

All those reviews and testimonials featured in a highly cool demo video I've still got...

Still, at least the PAL packaging tells you something about the story, however poor the description might be.
