Facts

* A common false belief is that this game is not a Final Fantasy game because in Japan it is called Seiken Densetsu, but the full title of the Japanese version is Final Fantasy Gaiden - Seiken Densetsu, making this game a true Final Fantasy Side Quest.
* The sequel to this game dropped Final Fantasy Gaiden from it's title to make it a separate series.
* In the USA the sequel to this game is called Secret of Mana, but it's original title was Final Fantasy Adventure II until a last minute change.

Is this proof FF:A is really a true FF game? Or is it just some more rumors? Does anyone have any other references for such claims?

Oh yeah, here (http://www.warmech.net/warmech.html) is the link. This info is on the bottom of page.

This game indeed carried the subtitle Final Fantasy Gaiden in Japan, but only for the same reason that it was renamed Final Fantasy Adventure in America: Square was, at the time, uncertain that their games would sell if they were not connected somehow to their most popular series. Either that, or they wanted to justify the presence of môguri and the chocobo in the game. In any case, it was completely superficial: "Final Fantasy Gaiden" doesn't even appear on the title screen.

Also, as referenced here (http://www.lostlevels.org/200311/200311-square.shtml), the game was originally intended as a more ambitious project set to appear on the Famicom Disk System in 1987, before the first Final Fantasy had even been created.

OKay, thanks for clearing that up, cause I was confused when I first read what was on WarMECH's Domain. I was like, "Wait, what?"
