Allegedly, FFVII's Cid appears near the start; and if you complete the game well enough, FFVIII's Squall shows up. Or something. That's what a review from a 1999 magazine said; I never bothered to check the game out. Seemed like a generic 'kart game', just with a chocobo lead character rather than Goofy/Buzz/Sonic in a go-kart.

Call me cynical, but...

Well, no buts. Just call me cynical.

There are plenty more FF cameos in it, as well as Aya Brea from Parasite Eve.

It's cute, but I can't say much more about it. I think it's just a FF fan service in kart racer form. These got really popular for a while for some unknown reason. I think they all had delusions of being Mario Kart. Almost every succesful game franchise has one of these skeletons in its closet. I'm just amazed that SNK didn't make one.

KART OF FIGHTERS '99!!!!!!!!

Yes, I know that. I've had the game for years now.

I didn't know about Aya Brea? Hmm, I'd have to check that out.

I despise racing games. Except for Super Mario Kart. It, for some reason, was better. Maybe because you could actually use weapons.

You can use weapons in pretty much all kart racing games, what makes Mario Kart better is that it was the first, it's not some watered down clone. All others tried to put a unique spin on it but were limited by the confines of the genre. Nintendo has this habit of coming up with truely brilliant gameplay concepts that get imitated for years and years.

Never even heard about it. It doesn't sound like anything particularly special. I suppose I'll just pretend I never found out it existed and go on with my life. I'll probably have forgotten about it by tomorrow.

Speaking of obscure spin off, anyone remember that block-type puzzle game with Cloud in it?

Hmm, maybe I'm the only person, but I absolutely adore this game. You guys should play it before throwing it off as a senseless clone, there are plenty of things unique about it. Beside that the story mode is adorable and hilarious, Mog is the biggest jerk ever. Anyway, the secret characters include cactuar, moomba, Squall, (Aya Brea is just a police car), Cloud, Airship, Classic Chocobo, Jack, etc.

Personally, me and my ex-girlfriend had loads of fun with this game, we played all the time when I first picked it up, got all of the secret characters, all of the ending videos, and made an ultimate racer. Which I might add is also cool that when you beat the game, depending on how well you did, you can make a custom racer attributing the stat points you earned to his/her racing stats.

Anyway, magic stones were an excellent idea for powerups, makes the game really fun, among other features. Chocobo Racing is an altogether good game, if you play a game looking for how similar it is to another game you might never be satisfied.

I did. The mini-walkthrough booklet that came with FFVIII pimped that game on a page.

That would make TOTAL sense if the platforms weren't the same thing.

Yeah, I've heard about it. It sounds like a good idea.

No. PSX Is playstation. PS1 came later it is a smaller moddle that isn't really as good but it can be taken in more places. And has a few games that PSX can't have. Then PS2 is Obviously playstation 2.

To tell the truth PS2 is actually part 3 really but...

Any way don't listen to what people say BUY it it's got a good story and RPRG (Role play race game) Everytime you win you get EXP!

Not only have I heard of it but it's one of my favourite kart racing games (although as far as normal racing games go Burnout 3 is the champ). Trust me, this game is more than meets the eye. It provides a nice story done in the form of a pop-up book, tons of characters and a very interesting magic using system that has you collecting magic stones in order to cast spells like Haste, Fire, Ultima etc. You can also upgrade the magic by collecting large quantaties of the stones (i.e. 2 Fire Stones= Fira, 3 Fire Stones= Firaga). It makes for a very unique and enjoyable racing game.

On top of that there are also some very cool remixes of the oldskool Final Fantasy songs (everything from FF-FF6). My friends and I used to be addicted to this game to the point that it was becoming unhealthy. :P There's lots to unlock and it's a very fun racing game. I wouldn't just dismiss it without giving it a chance.

Now now. Don't you know that lies make baby jesus cry?

Playstation, PSX, PS1, PSOne and Playstation 1 are all the same system. There were 2 models of the system's casing (the NES, SNES and Genesis all did this too) but the system didn't operate any differently. It's not like the jump from Gameboy to Gameboy Advance (which really went Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Light, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP) where the hardware changes were significant enough to merit exclusive games. In short, the systems were actually the same and any game that played on one would play on the other.
