View Full Version : End the hate, appreciate!
Ouch!

There is one constant problem that has been bugging me ever since I joined these here fora. This problem is "I hate [insert game title here]" threads. To quote Beavis and Butthead, "...there's like, too many of them and stuff."
I don't see the value in these threads at all. It's usually someone (most often newbies who can't write a sentence without sounding like a complete moron) who has a three sentence paragraph saying the game sucks, without even giving reasons. Now, I can understand people having an intelligent conversation about why one game is better than the other, but that never seems to be the case. The threads always end up with flaming and/or spamming. Not only that, but they constantly pop up.
I know that people are entitled to their own opinions. Yet, I think when all they can do is whine about a game, and not say anything remotely intelligent, it's useless to even waste the space. All they're doing is crying for attention.
I think it would do the fora good to ban these hate threads once and for all.

People are free to express their opinions. There is just as much validity to a "I hate FF??" thread as a "I love FF???" thread. As long as the thread stays constructive and people don't flame each other I don't see how they are bad threads.
Ouch!

The only difference is that hate threads rarely end on a good note.

Well that's because of the participants, not because of the thread itself.

And I don't really seem to see that many of those types of threads here. The people here *chuckle* are very...*chuckle*...mature...*bursts out laughing*

Anyways, I don't support said ban. Let's not make this site COMPLETELY totalitarian.

I check all of the gaming forums, and I don't see that many of them to the point which would cause a problem. People are allowed to not like the games and voice their opinion here about them. As long as it is done in a mature fashion they should continue to be allowed.

I don't particularly like 'I hate stuff' threads. I tend to believe they can be ended rather quickly with things such as this:

"Constructive criticism" is fine; hatred is not.
"What don't you like about FFVIII?" is a good way for people to share thoughts, ideas, and valid criticisms. However, "why do you hate that worthless piece of trout (http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/trout.gif) called FFVIII?" is just asking for trouble. A thread like that is all about attack and anger, not discussion and exchange of ideas. "It r sucky cuz it = sux" is usually about as deep as those threads go.
So yeah... if a thread's gotta take a negative angle, it should do it in a way that's not intended to cause offence.

hatred is not.
Crap.
Without hatred, I am nothing! NOTHING!
Hatred keeps me warm on these cold, cold Canadian winter nights.

I think we should just ban everyone that gets reported now on without asking questions, and then ban the person who reported them too, just to be fair. That would probably remove conflict from the forums altogether.

Right, because this is, after all, a Buddhist forum, all about peace and harmony, and has nothing to do with games about killing at all.
