No random encounters, only two people in your party, the option to have the computer control your partner... this is no doubt the easiest Final Fantasy. But I think one of it's few (if only) high points is the soundtrack. What do you think. If you want, here are some samples:

Yea, the the music sounds good, but there's still many FF's with even greater music. :sing: :sing: :thumb:

The music was done by someone other than Nobuo Uematsu, wasn't it? I know I personally liked the battle themes a lot. I also liked the graphics though. I mean, sure, they were pretty cartoony, but that's not really a bad thing. I mean, Wind Waker has cartoony graphics, but it's not like there's anything really BAD about them.

is it me or is mystic quest (awful as it is) far better then fftactic advance and ffII?

You're giving me a headache with that, Aeris. We know you hate II. Sheesh.

Anyway, MQ is actually pretty fun. It's not good for an FF, but it's neat and weird... and I liked it. The music is pretty neat, most especially the final boss. It's not an amazing game, but it's enjoyable to play every so often.

I liked Mystic Quest a lot. It's a great, fun game. Yeah the music is great. It's the best music out of any FF game. The battle with the Dark King is awesome, and Doom Castle is the best final dungeon music in any Final Fantasy. The Lava Doom and the Volcano are also pretty cool.

I wouldn't call it bad. There's a few games in the numbered FF series that are far worse than it. Mystic Quest is also a lot like EarthBound. It's got INSANE replay value. I usually find myself coming back to Mystic Quest every other year or so just to play it again. It isn't too long as to become a drag, but it's long enough to give you a decent play through.

Yeah, so I love Mystic Quest. What are you gonna do about it?

I second that MQ is a perfectly good game, even a perfectly good FF game. Gameplay wise, there's no issues to speak of. It's easy, sure, but so's FF6. The combat is essentially the same as FFI, and the gameplay on the field is like any FF only with more environmental interaction. I think people are just grumpy that the story isn't as grand or complex as other FFs or that there aren't any FMVs.

By some coincidence, I downloaded the entire soundtrack a couple days ago. Lovin' it.
The music was done by someone other than Nobuo Uematsu, wasn't it?To be specific, Ryuji Sasai (SaGa 3, Treasure of the Rudra, Super Bomberman 3, Bushido Blade 2, and the motion picture Windaria) and Yasuhiro Kawakami (Tobal No. 1, Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 2).

Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 2

I don't mean to hijack this topic, but DAMN that game was SWEET.

I swear that's some of the most fun I've ever had with a video game. That game was so addicting and fun. And it was hard too. Ultros took me forever to beat. I'm not even going to get started on the post-game sidequests. They teeter on the verge of insanity. One requires you to beat the final dungeon including the final boss using a character that starts at the beginning of the final dungeon AT LEVEL 1. You cannot leave the dungeon or go back, so it is a nigh bit impossible...

But anyways, as for the music: I didn't really notice the similarity between CD2 and Mystic Quest. I suppose the one track that did sound like something out of Mystic Quest could have been the fight with Glass Goth Z.

Did anyone else?

I'm going to.

The soundtrack was lovely, but that's about the only praise I can give the game. 'Course, I never bothered completing it, but most other FF games I've played have drawn me in at least enough to bother continue playing from the start, and the few that didn't had upcoming remakes at the times I played them, so there wasn't much incentive to finish them at that point anyway. Or they were BLOODY IMPOSSIBLE, as in Tactics' case.

Um, yeah. I'll have to download the soundtrack when I get home tho', 'cause it was pretty nifty. Thanks for the links.

It's not like the game takes more than four hours to complete. Then again, if you quit after one hour that's three less hours of your life totally wasted.

I think that was the idea, yes. ;)

One of these days if I'm feeling particularly masochistic I may give the game another go. There's so many better things I could do with my time though, like hook up that Dreamcast I got about a month ago and never bothered playing. Yeah,:love::love::love: it.

edit: rofl, I forgot we had the swear filter here and I :love::love::love: what came out as the replacement

It's not a bad game. It at least could entertain me for a couple of hours.

The main dungeons are a little hard, and it's good (I always got stuck in the Volcano and in Pazuzu's Tower), and the soundtrack is very cool.

I like it, but not much.

The 10 fights thing to help me level up must've been the most boring of all the 'random encounters' among all FFs.

I don't know, this game is so...un-FF-ish.

I enjoyed it when I first played it. He graphics were bright and colorful and the music was good. Granted the replay value isn't very high, but it's still fun. And I also liked it for it's Zelda-esque elements, and jumping. I wish that more rpg's had jumping and more interactive environments in them.

Yeah, the battle arenas are tedious, but other than that, this game is VERY FF. Actually, it's very FFI. It's got a lot of the same concepts and gameplay. You've got the 4 crystals and the 4 fiends protecting them, some random evil overlord, and a young warrior picked seemingly at random to save the world. The combat is attack and magic based in the same way that FFI is. There's no other special abilities. The monsters are all from the FF universe, as are the spells and, to a lesser extent, some of the weapons. If you really don't like this game, it just makes me wonder what it is you like about Final Fantasy.
