>>> Can you resize that announcement page??
My browser is loading like 700kb everytime I open it..

Certain staff members like all the announcements from forever to be on the page, when I think stuff like 'go vote in the 2001 elections' doesn't need to be there. So they're the ones you have to convince. I think they like it that way for nostalgic/amusement purposes.

There's probably a way to limit it to ten or so announcements per page. That would be nice.

I am very likely going to go into the announcements, and anything older than a few months, I'm going to set it only to display in the archives. There really is no reason why we need some of those ancient announcements visible. That's going to take me a while to do, and I'm not doing it right now, but I will do it. As for people who need to be convinced, *convinces them* done.

I'm having the oddest case of deja vu again. Wasn't this complained about but people didn't want to fix it....like seven years ago? :p

Yeah, the people who did like it (me) were told to fix it by the people that didn't like it (other staff) and didn't, because those people were more than capable of fixing their own problem. I'm cool with having them edited to one-forum-only and if I have the time today then I'll help Unne out.

Yeah, my AWESOME 56K DIAL-UP takes like 2 minutes to load that entire page. It's annoying like the cripes.

Send your parents heaps of e-cards and make them be heavy on the loading times. That way after a while they'll get sick of it and buy you decent connections. 56k should be illegal by now.

I'm the only person that uses the computer.

And I'm trying to convince them by being on all day and hogging the phone line. But they just yell at me and don't catch my subliminal messages, like joining a boy band and singing songs called "Dnabdaorb teg" and stuff. :)

Well if you're online all day and they don't like you being online I can't see them giving you cable, no. xD Ahhh well. G'luck anyway. :)

56k should be illegal by now.

It may sound heartless and mean, but I agree with you on that point.

Broadband connections are available in the majority of areas these days, and they're becoming less and less expensive to purchase. I can't believe that so many people are still using 56k modems. It's quite unbelievable.

I have to, because the letting agent I rent my house from won't let me have it.

Letters of protest are welcome.

I would have gladly done it if I knew how. I was out of work and had nothing else to do.

Sounds to me like you're volunteering, which is great because I don't want to do it. Have fun!

yeah my dad lives too far out in the woods and has to use 56k so does my gram. he MAYBE could get dsl but I doubt it.

back on topic, Yeah it sucks even with cable it still takes a couple a seconds more too load which makes me mad since I only want to see the top one but they wont show me it until the entire page is loaded :mad2:

How many announcements do you want showing?

Three or four months' worth of announcements.

I went through and edited the end date of every single announcement, even though clout will probably tell me a much faster way to do it tomorrow, as he usually does.

I didn't pay much attention to the end dates, but at least the most recent ones should expire after about a month. If someone wants to change that, its fine with me.

My eyeballs are all wonky now. :Oo:

I thought we didn't want expiration of announcements, just moving all the old ones to be Archive-specific instead of board-wide, so you can still see all the old announcements in those forums like old threads if you wanted to? :p

EDIT: And I've done exactly that - all announcements will expire in a few years time, but only the most recent are still global, older ones are confined to the archives now. I've left forum specific ones where they were though - can't have staff forum announcements becoming global :p

Edit the forum settings so I can load 32 768 replies/posts/threads per page. I'm serious.

Kind of pointless considering there aren't that many posts in any of the threads we have.
