P.S. I'll be gone from the 12th to the 19th, so it might seem I've forgotten about this, but I haven't.

Two of a kind, you say?
Not quite but close.
A start, a finish,
a finish and a start
sentenced to endure each others words.

Then who am I, you say?
But one of the pair, a half of the whole
Yet the whole is greater than the sum of its parts
Mistake me for my brother, will you?
Then I will put him in your side.

SpiritWolf
06-12-2004, 01:31 AM
Zorn and Thorn?

Big D
06-12-2004, 01:45 AM
Nope. My poem refers to a single person...

The Captain
06-12-2004, 03:24 AM
At first I thought Masa and Mune from Chrono Trigger and Cross, but I suppose I'll guess:

Palom and Porom?

Take care all.

TasteyPies
06-12-2004, 03:30 AM
Two opisites, a single person, CONFUSING!

Big D
06-12-2004, 05:17 AM
The poem is about two people, but it's talking specifically about one of them. The fact that there's a 'pair' of characters is merely a clue to the identity of the one I've got in mind...;)

The last two lines are a bit of a play on words, but the biggest clue that's available. One person came pretty close the answer already...

The Captain
06-12-2004, 05:51 AM
I'm going out on a limb, Kuja?

Take care all.

-N-
06-12-2004, 06:47 AM
Zorn. *puts a Thorn in Big D's side*

Big D
06-12-2004, 07:22 AM
Zorn. *puts a Thorn in Big D's side*Yes! *Passes torch to princeofdarknez*

SpiritWolf guessed "Zorn and Thorn", but since the answer is merely "Zorn", princeofdarknez wins.

Two of a kind, you say?
Not quite but close. Zorn and Thorn are very similar, but not identical
A start, a finish,
a finish and a start
sentenced to endure each others words. These three lines refer to how those two speak - often repeating the same thing but in different ways, or finishing each others' sentences.

Then who am I, you say?
But one of the pair, a half of the whole Decribing one of the twins only
Yet the whole is greater than the sum of its parts Meltigemini is far stronger than either Zorn or Thorn separately
Mistake me for my brother, will you?
Then I will put him in your side. Just a clue that it's Zorn, not Thorn, I'm looking for.

The Captain
06-12-2004, 04:58 PM
Nice one Dave!

Anyway, it's your turn now Princeofdarknez.

Take care all.

06-12-2004, 05:54 PM
I'll try and refrain from more FFVII-related riddles. Man, I remember that thread... and for future reference, any CT/CC/XG allowed, or just FF?

Anyways, here goes.

The first one you won for free.
The third one you had to earn three.
By then the second one came,
But only after ten is the last one gained.

If you're in the general ballpark, I'll let you know, and it'll be your turn. Looks a bit too easy to me... but that's because I wrote it, I guess. :D

The Captain
06-13-2004, 05:03 AM
Hmm, I'm stumped at the moment. This refers to a character, correct?

Take care all.

Good riddle...
This topic as evolved a lot, huh?

TasteyPies
06-13-2004, 11:06 PM
Uh....it would help if there was a question at the end of the riddle. Who am I? What is this? ect.

What am I?

Your hint for the day: It's a set.

Chcobo Hot and Cold from FFIX?

-N-
06-15-2004, 01:59 AM
Hmm... no one's really close at all... I'd say TasteyPies is about... 10% there. He was right in saying there were prizes. And that's the closest. :D

Two hints for the day (I'm generous, aren't I? :D):
Riddle one was too much I see, well,
Around the world you must go,
Overlooking nothing at all.
Up on the peaks, down to the shores,
Never miss a spot.

"] Good riddle...
This topic as evolved a lot, huh?
You should see the FFVII riddles... those had fuel. And there were some crazy riddles.

TasteyPies
06-15-2004, 02:01 AM
Um...that ff8 thing where you have to run around and in certain areas in the world map some text would pop up?...maybe? the ff8 lake incident is the only thing i can think of thats not a mini-game

-N-
06-15-2004, 02:05 AM
In case you're dying to find out if you're right... No. Take what you get from this hint, and put it together with the original riddle. There's more than one way to extract the meaning of the second riddle, by the way.

TasteyPies
06-15-2004, 09:10 PM
The first one you won for free.
The third one you had to earn three.
By then the second one came,
But only after ten is the last one gained.
Around the world you must go,
Overlooking nothing at all.
Up on the peaks, down to the shores,
Never miss a spot.

Not a minigame...
Has prizes...
requires constant diligent travel on mountains and beaches ect.
First time you get 1 free prize then the Third time you get 3 prizes
After 10 times you get the final prize

Question...How can the second occurrence start after the third one? and winning for free is an oxymoron

It makes no sense at all and in case you were wondering the topic and area are Final fantasy riddles and General final fantasy so CT/CC/XG probably wouldn’t be allowed.

Old Manus
06-15-2004, 09:34 PM
that is HARD.

i would say (well, guess) that is something to do with secret items. You recieve item no:1 off someone, then must get three of..something, to get item #3. Then you will be able to find item #2. Then you must find 10 somethings to get the last item.

Then "never miss a spot" could also mean an actual "spot"....

That was a mega stab in the dark.

Laguna
06-15-2004, 09:40 PM
Is it the turtle's paridise flyers from FF7? There were 10, and you got a prize from each one? Just a wild guess.

UltimateSpamGrover

Its the chocobo crap in the Calm Lands on FFX

The Captain
06-16-2004, 12:59 AM
Hmm... My next guess is, Catching the monsters in FFX?

Take care all.

06-16-2004, 01:28 AM
People seem to be getting warm, but I fear giving away the game will make it far too easy. Anyways, for today's hints, I'll point out who's getting warm.

TasteyPies: You left out an important line, my man (all five lines of riddle 2 work together somehow to give a hint). But your conclusions are all correct. A suggestion: by the time you get the third prize, you've already gotten the second prize, haven't you? (This seems to be confusing some.) I concede "winning for free" is an oxymoron, but that matter is irrelevant to the answer.

Laguna: Your mode of thinking is on the right track. However, there were only 6 Turtle's Paradise Flyers in FFVII, and you only got a prize for getting all 6 and going to the Turtle's Paradise in Wutai.

TasteyPies: It's not about CT/CC/XG, but thanks for the future info.

If no one's hot by tomorrow, the correct game will be revealed.

Congrats. Your turn.

BTW:

Riddle one was too much I see, well,
Around the world you must go,

Up on the peaks, down to the shores,
Never miss a spot.

RAOUN - unscramble - AURON.

Huh, I definitely didn't notice that at first glance. Great riddle by the by.

How's about an easy one now?

A World Trotting Hero,

For The Past And To Escape It,
I'm Just Looking For Relief.

The Captain
06-16-2004, 02:55 PM
Good guess, but unfortunately, incorrect. There was another hint I was thinking of adding, but it would make the question like stealing candy from a baby.

Locke, FFVI.

A World Trotting Hero, (adventurer)
I Search And I Seek, (treasure hunter)
For The Past And To Escape It, (how to save rachel)
I'm Just Looking For Relief. (he feels guilty)

As For Any Fair Maiden, (likes to protect women)
Who's In Dire, Dire Need, (above)
I'll Come To Your Rescue, (above)
For It Helps You As Well As Me. (he feels he compensates for not protecting rachel)

Who Am I? (locke)

-N-
06-17-2004, 02:33 AM
Yes indeed! - Reminds me of CT boss fights. :D

Hmm... well, okay, here we go.

Hit a moving target,
Or maybe get lucky.
Put two and two together,
Go round and round,
Or summon all your strength.
Use well what you've learned,
Or just do the right moves.
Just pack a punch!

I think it's easier than the last one... maybe... I dunno... good luck. :D

Big D
06-17-2004, 04:32 AM
Hit a moving target,
Or maybe get lucky.
Put two and two together,
Go round and round,
Or summon all your strength.
Use well what you've learned,
Or just do the right moves.
Just pack a punch!Sounds like you're describing Zell's limit moves from FFVIII. "Put two and two together" seems to describe a combo of moves; "Go round and round" sounds like a description of the popular 'Armageddon Fist' combo. "Or summon all your strength" to use a special finishing move. "Use well what you've learned,
Or just do the right moves" to win by either being stregic and planning your attacks or go for straightforward, pragmatic assaults. "Just pack a punch!" was, to me, the biggest clue that this is about Zell, although I realised that the description could apply to Tifa's Limit Break as well.

-N-
06-17-2004, 05:51 AM
You're on the right track, Big D. Don't take "pack a punch" too literally.

UltimateSpamGrover
06-17-2004, 05:55 AM
Sabin's Blitz, or Squall's Renozuken or the Snowboard/Submarine minigame from FFVII

Big D
06-17-2004, 05:58 AM
Hmm... could be Cait Sith's limit break, too.
Hit a moving target,
Or maybe get lucky.
Put two and two together,
Go round and round,
Or summon all your strength.
Use well what you've learned,
Or just do the right moves.
Just pack a punch!
Two and two together - could refer to Cait Sith's dice. The other clues kinda describe his Slots attack...

UltimateSpamGrover
06-17-2004, 06:03 AM
its the "Monk" class

-N-
06-17-2004, 06:20 AM
Ah, D, you're killing me... each line is important.

Big D
06-17-2004, 06:31 AM
Hmm... I get the feeling that you're talking about limit breaks in general. Lots of the things you've said seem to hint at various different characters' limit-type attacks, from several different games:
Hit a moving target,
Renzokuken
Or maybe get lucky.
Reels/slots or some other random attack
Put two and two together,
Dice
Go round and round,
Reels, again
Or summon all your strength.
Omnishlash or Grand Summon, to name two possibilities, depending on how you interpret "summon".
Use well what you've learned,
Some Limit Breaks, such as Duel, use moves that are learned.
Or just do the right moves.
Fairly general limit-breakey kind of phrase
Just pack a punch!
Zell, Tifa

Wonder if I'm getting closer, or losing the plot completely?

Evil_Cloud
06-17-2004, 06:56 AM
i think it might just be Tifa's Limit breaks in general, or at least thats how i saw it. tell me if i'm right, if not FLAME ME BABY FLAME ME!

-N-
06-18-2004, 10:01 PM

Hint for the day that will enlighten Big D: The riddle applies to one game.

Or maybe get lucky. - Reels
Put two and two together, - Mix
Go round and round, - Fury (spinning R3)
Or summon all your strength. - Grand Summon
Use well what you've learned, - Blue Magic
Or just do the right moves. - Bushido (pressing the different buttons)
Just pack a punch! - Requiem?

'tis a possibilty.

I pack a punch, and a kick too.
To get my revenge, from being picked on by on you.
Adopted by my parents, which I just found out.
When I get mad, I'm not afraid to scream or pout.
Had an incedent, going fast; zoom zoom.
Turned too fast into the women's restroom.
My house is in a city, with no yard and,
It is located near a garden.

To whom am I referring to?

-N-
06-22-2004, 03:44 AM
Zell.

I pack a punch, and a kick too. (Zell's hand to hand fighting)
To get my revenge, from being picked on by on you. (He was picked on)
Adopted by my parents, which I just found out. (Yeah, that whole thing)
When I get mad, I'm not afraid to scream or pout. (He is kinda loud)
Had an incedent, going fast; zoom zoom. (He needs to pee?)
Turned too fast into the women's restroom. (I don't remember this...)
My house is in a city, with no yard and, (Yeah... in Balamb)
It is located near a garden. (Balamb Garden)

Excalibur II from FFIX.

It's robust and practical, (big, strong, useful, sword)
But hidden from view (it's hidden)
Found in the past, (memoria)
To mention it would be... untactful. (???)

*reads the hint* Hmm... on second thought, let's do this WITH the hint. :D

One guess is the Crystal from FFIV.

It's robust and practical, (does stuff)
But hidden from view (you don't really see it?)
Found in the past, (umm...)
To mention it would be... untactful. (maybe this isn't a good guess)

+H: "It can ease a secret pain". (ease Zeromus into his form)

The more viable guess is... something from FFVIII. Something to do with Lunatic Pandora or Adel, or Raine's baby, or Ellone... blah.

I really thought Excalibur II was right for a moment...

The Captain
07-01-2004, 03:13 AM
I'd warrant that the word "past" would imply something from FFVIII as that game deals directly with the concept of time travel. It's the last line that is throwing me off: "untactful".. does that mean some form of spoiler?

Take care all, and may someone figure this toughie out!

Big D
07-01-2004, 04:35 AM
It's the last line that is throwing me off: "untactful".. does that mean some form of spoiler?Nope... it means that someone who has a degree of tact wouldn't normally talk about it. When someone does mention it, that's probably a pretty crass move.

How about Elixer from Mystic Quest? It was said to cure anyone. Plus it hidden away in a cave. Could be it, but probably not.

Big D

Just to recap... this thing is an an FF, not any other game.

It's robust and practical,
But hidden from view
Found in the past,
To mention it would be... untactful.

It can ease a secret pain.

These hints relate to how the thing is found in the game, what it does, and how the characters react to it. Each of these lines are farily integral. Also, this thing isn't of really huge, earth-shattering significance (though some might disagree), and you can play the entire game without ever encountering it, or even being aware of its existence.

You know me too well.

It's robust and practical, ~A strong, sturdy garment
But hidden from view~You never actually see it on-screen, even after Cloud finds it
Found in the past,~Nibelheim flashback
To mention it would be... untactful. ~...As Cloud found out.

It can ease a secret pain.~Self-explanatory.

Nicely solved!:)

Nay good sir, it was a most worthy riddle. I just stumbled upon the answer by chance.

Ok I'm going to have a guess. The black Materia from FFVII? This is why I thought of that...

An item not easily found but long sought - Sephiroth was looking for it, and it is not easily found.

It can never be sold, borrowed, nor bought. You cant sell, borrow or buy the Black materia.

Once you find it, more of the plot will be unfurled. This is true, once you find the black materia alot of the plot unfolds.

And have both the father and his girl. You discover after this about Aeris's parents...

Big D: Charm Bangle or Moogle Charm from FFVI. I'll say Charm Bangle since it doesn't work 100% of the time, and the riddle's last line kinda implies that.

PhoenixAsh: Was Movers close? Far? Anyways, I'll answer Wakka. His blitzball (line 8), his overdrive reels (lines 5,6) his feelings about Yevon (line 1), the party gets irritated with him occasionally (line 2) are my support.

07-08-2004, 07:04 PM
Heh, glad thats sorted :D. Okay the last lines are NOT referring to Blitzballs or movers. I'd recommend starting by working those out because there's not a lot of things they could refer to. Remember though, they talk about something that ISN'T the answer to the riddle.
Don't forget the fifth line, it has nothing to do with Relm, but it's still a big clue.

Ultima Shadow
07-08-2004, 08:00 PM
This seems impossible for me to solve. If the last lines isn't talking about the answere... then, doesn't that mean that they could talk about ANYTHING that isn't!? Ok, one last (random) guess from me... Gogo? I'm 99,8% sure it isn't.

PhoenixAsh

PhoenixAsh
07-08-2004, 11:36 PM
Ooh, a lot of that logic was very the right kind of thinking. Unfortunately you're completely off with your answer. Good enough to warrant some bigger clues though.
The meaning of the word sketchy isn't massively important, it makes sense in context but only loosely, the fact I wrote 'sketch'y like that isn't a mistake though.
Try applying a lot of that logic but take a completely fresh approach, because for a start the answer isn't a person.

But great power I will fetch ye... thousand needles and junctioning etc.
No orbs in sight to help you grow...?
You see I'm not just balls you know...?

Sphere Grid?

If its not this, then I have no clue what it is...

I stand alone like the rest > not in other FF's
Now many think I'm a pest > Its VERY annoying
They just say fighting would be best > yeah because in all other FF's they upgrade all of your stats
But its not just strength that I will test > you get to learn magic or ability or stats in every sphere level
To use me right is kinda "sketchy" > you choose what you want your characters to learn, make the wrong choices and...
But great power will fetch ye' > look at "Sketchy"
No orbs in sight will help you grow > The stupid Cloister of Trials in FFX, put in to throw us off...
You see I'm not just balls you know > You use spheres to level up your characters...

FFIIj's leveling up in-game cheat.

I stand alone not like the rest, (FFIIj has a strange way of leveling up compared to other games)
Now many think I am a pest, (It's hands down the hardest game in the series)
They say just fighting would be best, (The normal way to get exp)
But it's not just strength that I will test. (The trick utilizes knowledge of the battle mechanics)
To use me right is kinda 'sketch'y, (It is a cheat, which is sketchy... can't explain why 'sketch' is quoted)
But great power I will fetch ye. (It really soups you up good)
No orbs in sight to help you grow, (Not FFX here)
You see I'm not just balls you know (Can't make much out of this)

Nooo, you're going backwards, the answer was nearly there. Two or three more guesses and I'll give the answer.

I really thought someone would get this...

I stand alone not like the rest, (Monsters level up with you, junctioning magic to stats, no mp)
Now many think I am a pest, (just go to the forum to see this)
They say just fighting would be best, (Would rather get strong through exp instead of collecting magic)
But it's not just strength that I will test. (You're rewarded for collecting magic, card playing, refining and junctioning)
To use me right is kinda 'sketch'y, (You DRAW magic to gain stats)
But great power I will fetch ye. (You can get unbelievably strong if you junction right)
No orbs in sight to help you grow, (Materia, Sphere Grid, those circles in IX....)
You see I'm not just balls you know (It's different to the others but it's still effective)

So the answer is.... The junction system from FFVIII.

Ah, I see, mighty clever work!

Well, now we're at a crossroads. Would you like to pose another riddle?

Take care all.

Thanks. I would say give it to princeofdarknez because he got Big D's riddle, but if he doesn't know it could take a while, if it's quicker I'll leave it open.

I'll let someone else riddle if as princeofdarknez hasn't got here yet.

Damn... I was so close to getting that riddle.

I'm afraid my current personal situation demands too much of my time to produce and manage the solving of a riddle, so I will pass on my turn. Honestly, I'd rather have Phoenix do another one. ;)

Haha, well guess I'm back by popular demand then, sorry Ultima Shadow ;).

Life from life and onto the finish,
Find power from legends old.
Get them all and find the home,
To gain something to play with.
Search the world from high to low,
Through this many things can be sought.
Then just chase some decorations to reverse the clock,
You'll get power, just not quite ready.

Guess I'll give a hint, this riddle doesn't involve FF6 or earlier. Could be easy for me, I don't wanna be too hard after the last one.

No worries... I wasn't completely serious in my last post. Your riddles are great... but hard.
However, I let someone else guess first. Hmmm... I got the feeling that this is about FFX.

PhoenixAsh

Thanks, I know you were kidding, so was I. It's not Jecht Spheres, and while FFX is involved, you could get the answer having never played FFX, you'd just struggle maybe.

I'm leaning towards The Captain's musings on summoning in general from the later series (though something that general would end up involving FFIV and FFVI). Lines 1/2 reminds me of Magicite or Fayth. Lines 3/4 could refer to getting the Master Summon materia. Lines 5/6 just refers to searching for them in general, I think (FFVII - materia, FFVIII - GFs, FFIX - gems, FFX - extra aeons, etc.). Lines 7/8 are throwing me off for now.

Sound like Searching For The Summons from FF 4....Maybe!

All good lines of thinking, though this only very slightly has anything to do with summons. Also it only doesn't involve earlier FFs because I chose not to include them.

PhoenixAsh

I like the thinking, but not on the right ideas yet. I'll give two clues because I want this to actually get answered. First, this riddle is pretty much completely literal. Second, look at the punctuation.

I have logic so intense, that it is impossible to explain in these forums, so I will guess the women/heroines of Final Fantasy 7 and above DON'T ASK WHY!

good thinking.. I can see where you got that from

-N-

Line 7 reminds me of the Cloister of Trials from FFX. Line 8 could refer to when you get the treasure the second time around in the Chamber of the Fayth, but that would require playing FFX.

Lines 1-4 remind me of one of two things:
FFVII: the cycle of life in the Lifestream, and the materia created from it that contains the knowledge of the Cetra. Getting them all and the home could refer to the Huge Materia / Master Materia stuff.

FFIX: the summons in the game that are learned from the ancient summoner paintings and gems. Find the home (Oeilvert or Madain Sari) and get something to play with (you get summoning stuff at both places, right? I dislike FFIX so much.)

Lines 5-6 seem too general to dissect, but taking high and low literally, I imagine Mt. Gagazet and the Valley of the Fayth from FFX.

-------------

Okay, take two.

Lines 5-6 imply travelling from Valley of the Fayth to Mt. Gagazet.
Lines 7-8 imply completing the Cloister of Trials in Zanarkand and receiving the Final Aeon from Yunalesca, although it is incomplete because it hasn't been summoned yet.
Blah... I was going to say Lines 1-4 have to do with getting Yojimbo and Anima, but that has too much to do with FFX and summoning.

PhoenixAsh

princeofdarknez has the right kind of way of looking at the riddles. I know I said you don't HAVE to play FFX to get the riddle, but the logic you used for FFX wouldn't negate understanding the rest. Though that was the wrong idea you chose.
Also as I said look at the punctuation, I very rarely use a riddle style that simply describes a particular answer.

EDIT: didn't see your second guess, which DOES have too much FFX in it for it to be answerable otherwise.

Browser crashed when I had a full explanation, so I'm kinda pissed and will be abbreviating my thoughts, for better or for worse. :mad2:

*rearranges a bit*

Lines 1/2 remind me of collecting Aeons from Fayth and going to Zanarkand. Line 3 could mean Bevelle and Baaj (low). Line 4 is kinda like the Zanarkand trials.

Alternately, Line 4 is suggestive of the clock face in FFVII, Temple of the Ancients. Line 3 could then refer to falling off the clock face to the room below. Lines 1/2 don't make too much sense in this context (I can think of a few things, but it's very loose, not literal).

I'm trying to connect it to the airship idea, since that's my strongest feeling right now.

Find power from legends old.

You'll get power, just not quite ready.

Lines 3/4 remind me of an airship - can use it to find stuff, but you don't get "ready" power (no immediate power results from getting an airship). Lines 1/2 then could refer to salvaging FFX's airship from the ancient machina ruins and stuff.

Really, I'm not even sure what you're asking for. Is it the "this" in Line 6? My current answer is "Airship, thanks".

Doesn't have anything to do with FFVI or earlier, as previously stated.
