The Beatles
The Clash
Sex Pistols
Led Zeppelin
The Who
Pink Floyd
Rolling Stones
Elton John

yeah, basically what's already been said. :D

U2

Only if Britain includes Ireland. :) Which it very well might, I'm just saying that they're Irish. I think. I'm pretty sure.

Lost Prophets, Muse, Radiohead (the early stuff)

I prefer brit rock because the bands tend to have more creative ability, originality and musical talent than Blink 182 and their millions of soundalikes. Yawn.

If you haven't noticed, but this a thread where I can express my opinion. I realize this is a thread about british rock bands, that is why I said didn't like them much. :p Cradle of Filth would be as far as I would say liking a band that came from Britain.

Leave it. It's still a valid opinion, whether it answers the question or not.

In answer to the question, I like Blur, Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand...those are the present day bands I enjoy.

Definitely Radiohead would be my favorite. Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones were cool too. Cold Play's pretty good, although their lyrics could definitely stand to be more interesting. For Cold Play I usually just listen to the music and ignore the lyrics.

Are Black Sabbath british?

By the way, the greatest band to ever come out of Britain are Led Zeppellin, the kings of classic rock. What a band. One of the greatest guitarists of all time, THE greatest drummer of all time, a damn good singer and a great base. Has anyone noticed that when Led Zep performed live, JP Jones was barely ever in the lights on the stage. And if he did venture into them he would then remove himself. Wats up with that. :screwy:

Oasis

Blur

There was another (recent) band, I can't remember the name though, or the name of any of their songs :E

MARILLION! Marillion, damnit, Marillion!
Finest of british progressive rock.
Other fine British progressive rock acts: Pendragon, Arena, IQ, Rick Wakeman, Clive Nolan & Oliver Wakeman, Threshold, Landmarq

But I also like basically every classic rock & British invasion artist listed

Oh, and can't forget- the gods of metal hail from Britain. I speak of .... IRON MAIDEN!!!

ahhh the subhumans. what a great band. anyways i would have to say the the sexpistols, the clash, and the subhumans. and saying this raises an odd question... do all british punk bands start with 'the'?? i cant think of any off of the top of my head.

Surprised no one mentioned him, but Eric Clapton, who, no offense to Zeppelin fans out there, is in my mind the greatest guitarist still alive.

The Beatles are still probably the single most influential group of all time, and deservedly so.

Pink Floyd was probably one of the most progressive rock bands of any era.

The Rolling Stones, back in their heyday were also a force to be reckoned with.

Zeppelin during their time at the top probably performed with more energy than any live band of their era.

The Who in my mind are still very underrated, but that's probably because they came along at the same time as The Beatles and The Stones.

I also like some of the work by Sting, as well as some songs by The Police.

I'd say we owe a lot to the music influence from England here in America.

Take care all.

True about Clapton. He's done some brilliant stuff (Cream, Yardbirds) - he's come out with some pretty dire stuff as well.

I'm saddened that I don't listen to enough English and UK music, but then the sheer volume I have of each I do listen to, over the number of different bands helps me recovering.
