EDIT: You need to reach lvl 30 to even GO on the summoner quest with your main job. Then you get summoner and poof, back to lvl 1. ^_^

First you have to get Carbuncle, gather the lights in the Red Ruby all over the world, long and soo annoying. The other Avatars, you have to go on quests and fight them to have the priviledge to call on them, kinda like how in FFVIII you had to challenge Ifrit :/ You have to reach Summoner first but I think you can start gathering the elementals around but they're quite tough to gather. You can't challenge the avatars until you're level 20 I think in Summoner.

Or you can get a character to level 65-75 and fight the real avatars with a party. Whether it be level 20 solo with only carbuncle, or level 65+ with a team, getting these avatars that parties won't even let you keep out is quite a challenge. The summoner class has the hardest time being anything but gimp compared to any other class, and the summons you get aren't strong enough to be worth it till incredibly late in your chr's career.

Note: THe most powerful summon is Fenrir is ONLY attainable through the lvl 70 battle, not lvl 20 ever.

I saw a dude that had Fenrir in Valkrum and he was lvl 21. Must of teamed up with high levels to get it. He used it in battle all the time O_O

How hard is it to obtain the ruby? Because I've fought at least 200 - 250 leeches this week in Pashow farming beastmen blood and have yet to get one to drop the ruby, and I know that it can drop from them.

I feel for would be summoners. =\

You can buy it at the AH I think.

unfortunately you can't, it's an ex rare item. I got mine 3 or 4 months back just as i hit lvl 30 blm, which was lucky :)

He probably had a level 70+ job himself. You don't need to have the SMN job equipt in order to fight the avatars. Am I correct?

To fight the lvl 55+ and lvl 70 Fenrir battles, you DONT have to have SMN activated in any form or sort. For the lvl 20 ones tho, you do have to.

Once you recieve the avatar it stays with you, even if you dont have the job activated.

The ruby is RARE/EX and almost all important quest items are, and they drop randomly, Qufim and Buburimu Peninsula is what ppl say they drop most often.
