I'm cursed.
Let me explain--every party I start winds up being a disaster. I've tried starting parties in Valkurm and people are in and out like the horizontal tango--before I've completed a party of six, I've had at least a dozen members...but tonight takes the cake.
We started in Windurst, me and a Mithra theif. I was a level 9 black mage (Liosliath) and he (Well, she, but the player was a male) was level 7. East Sarutabaruta wasn't giving us enough of a challenge, so we decide to try to start a party and hit Tahrongi. So I go looking for a tank, and I see this Galka. Bastokan Rank 1 should have clued me in, but I thought "Hey! Galka warrior, level 8! Perfect!" even though there was another level 7 warrior on whom I'd partied with before and knew to be competent.
This Galka turned out to be the stupidest bastard I've ever partied with. I mean, I've been stuck with some arrogant twits who think they know better than anything, and the type who thinks that being PL entitles them to be imperious and boss people around, and n00bs who just don't know their jobs...yet...but this Galka takes the cake. We finally assemble a party of six (thanks to a Rank 3 Hume who joined us early on...I'm Rank 3 on my Elvaan character, but I don't know Windurst like I know San d'Oria, so I wasn't sure how to go about partying in Tahrongi) and head to the Shakrami maze. The Rank 3 says "No matter what, don't let the gobs see you. We can't beat them." First thing the Galka does is waltz right on out in front of a Goblin Ambusher. Rank 3 calls for help, and fortunately there was plenty around. So we stop to regroup (I was a Taru, so I desperately needed rest after taking one single hit from the gob), and the Galka goes haring off on his own, oblivious to the party's discussions, where the Rank 3's friend said that with our party, we could do worms. There were two worms in front of us. The theif goes to attack one...and then realizes that our tank isn't present. Where's the Galka? Everyone else is here....no tank.
Suddenly, we hear the Galka say "omg...omg...2 gobs"
"2 gobs on me"
I check the map, and the bastard is halfway to Bangladesh.
"Don't leave the group," we tell him, "Stick with the group and don't go haring off on your own, or you'll get killed."
SOMEHOW, the Galka managed to shake off these two gobs and make it back to the party without taking too much damage. There must have been somebody who saved his retarded tail. So the Rank 3's friend shows us a safe corner to run to to heal and reiterates "We can kill worms. Nothing else. Just worms. Eratul pulls--nobody else fights anything. We can only do a worm at a time."
"Are you sure this is the right way?" asks the Galka.
"Yes," says Rank 3's friend, "I levelled my RNG here"
"I just want to check," says the Galka, and goes haring off on his own again. I check the map, and sure enough, he's on his way to Bangladesh again--the exact same route he took when he picked up his two gobs.
This time, the Galka got killed, and asked our level 8 white mage if he had Raise.
"No, Raise is level 25," replies the whm.
"Liosliath, do you have Raise?" (Liosliath is me. I'm a Black Mage Level 9. No subjob.)
The Galka then informs us that he *needs* Raise, because his HP is in Bastok. The bugger lucked out and made it all the way to Windurst from Bastok and *didn't set his home point*
At this point, the whm quit in disgust and thus the party fell apart
Ouch!

It's amazing how stupid some people can be. Then again, there are a lot more horses asses than there are horses in this world.
The worst part is that those people don't realize how incredibly stupid they are. It's rediculous. I've run into some pretty stupid people, but who the hell asks if a black mage has raise? Honestly, does that sound like black magic?
That's the kind of guy who will never be able to play the game because nobody with group with him. It's probably better that way too.

Oh, equally stupid people will group with him...although I won't be stupid enough to leap at someone just because they're a Galka war ever, ever again. I'd go for people with search comments if any non-JP players on Alexander ever USED the bloody things...doesn't do me much good when everyone who knows how to use a search comment is in bed ><

That's because you're in the wrong thread. This is supposed to be a thread for people to tell amusing anecdotes about their ingame experiences, although so far I'm the only one who's told a story and people have just been talking about my story instead of posting their own. *mock indignation*
Ouch!

I'll tell a story as soon as I get one interesting enough to tell about.

Got another one.
Now, I know I'm a horrible person for laughing at this, but I was in Jeuno near the exit to Battalia when I hear this shout:
Mongague: Yes! I've finally made it to Jeuno for the first time ever!
Immediately, a high-level black mage cast Warp II on Mongague and he disappeared.
Hope his HP wasn't Bastok.

XD thats hilarious sorry...I'm still somewhat a nOOb. But then again I now know most of the stuff a beginner needs to know. *I just hope I'm not stupid*
Yeah I hope I just stay away from that Galka.
Ouch!

Don't worry, I'm laughing my ass of at that too.
I actually have a story to tell one quite like the original. I was in Valkurm in a party being formed. We were in the lower levels, 11-12. So we're looking around and we found *gasp* a Galka warrior. So naturally we take him.
We finally get the group together, and we send out Collosus (the Galka) to grab a lizard because we don't have anyone else who can pull effectively. He runs out, circling around the area until he finds a lizard. He provokes it and starts running back. We had already told him to be careful 'cause they link, so the genius runs right in front of another one.
He finally reaches camp, we're all shouting that he brough two. Our leaders calls zone and we all run... except for him. He stays there, standing right there taking the hits. We start shouting run, assuming he doesn't have a clue what zone means. He stays right there.
After he dies and we all come back into Valkurm from Konschtat, he starts shouting at us, "Thanks for the ****ing help!" We tried to explain to him that we told him to run but he freaks out. Our leader had left right previous to the incident and had given me leader.
I did the only thing any sensible person would, I booted his ass. He ran over to us and start cussing his head off and shouting all sorts of profanity. The best comment was, "While you're sitting there looking for a replacement, I'll be fighting." We get a replacement within the minute and start hunting again. After about ten minutes I see him walk by with his flag up. Then again later. He was wandering around for an hour. Each time he passed everyone in my group waved to him. It was amusing.

I got another good, short one.
I was at the AH in Windurst Walls last night when I see a most peculiar shout, all in the auto-translator:
<I want to make money> <Hume> <meat> <rod> -> <Mithra> <hole> 500gil </tell>

I've been in a party before in Qufim as my BRD, when the RNG told me I had to pull cause I was higher level (by 1 level mind you and we're only hunting the same monster regardless of level) Ya well our leader booted him, pretty funn cause afterwards he ran over and pulled a giant walked near us, and tried to use calmoflauge in hopes that the giant would kill us. It failed ultimately. I think he ended up dying.
In that same party we had a RDM at one point. He wasn't too bad till after our first fight and he's down half MP. so we're resting and getting MP back for mages while the puller looks for stuff, and I tell the RDM to rest. His response "Nah I'm fine." Despite the rest of our party telling him to rest, he refused, so we just booted him.
I find those liberal mis-uses of the translator irritating at best, downright offensive sometimes.
Something that happened to me just yesterday. I was in an EXP party in Garlaige. We have PLD, MNK, SAM(myself), RDM, BLM, and WHM. Our PLD is doing *everything* right. She's voking every 30 seconds, using flash soon as it's up, healing most of her own damage. The RDM suddenly decides to make a crack about her shield, which is like maybe one model outdated, saying that she needs to go replace it because she's taking too much damage. WHM suggests that he help support heal, but he replies, "No, I'm not going to heal her, I want to watch her die." PLD tells him somewhat expletively to shut it and he says "Curse at me one more time and I'll disband to watch you die." At this point the PT leader is doing nothing about this, so she does the next best thing. She leaves, right in the middle of the fight, and honestly I don't blame her. The mob chases her, she dies, and our BLM uses escape. Now, we're outside and the RDM is still going on about her shield! Why he wasn't booted is beyond me, but it didn't matter 'cause next thing we know he's telling us he only had 30 mins to play anyway and he's logging out.
I sent a tell to the PLD, who in my opinion was extremely competent, detailing to her my thoughts on the prick who had caused her this grief:
* Lvl47 RDM with a gimped Sub @ lvl20.
* Lvl47 and too lazy to get past Rank2 (either that or he's alienated everyone and noone will do missions with him.)
* He needed to be told when to use convert, repeatedly... seriously.
* The first thing he said after the first fight was, "Mages, let me know when you want refresh.".... Like looking at their MP was too difficult?
* He was meleeing and nuking as though he thought he was a BLM.
* He joined a serious EXP party with almost no time to play, which is not a crime, but still pretty inconsiderate to the team.
Ultimately he should feel fortunate that we had such a skilled tank who was able to save his arrogant little ass over and over.

I feel so stupid, now that I think about it.
That story I posted about the guy who just came into Jeuno and got Warp II cast on him?
Staged. It had to be.
You see, Warp II is like the whm's Teleport spells: The target has to be in the same party as the caster. No way someone would walk to Jeuno and accept a party invite and then stand stock still while a stranger cast Warp II on them. When I got into Jeuno the first time, the first thing I did was set HP--it's just inside the gates.
Sure, it's still a little funny, but less so for knowing that it was staged.

This isn't my story, but some guy in Qufim (while partying) told me about it. His friend was leveling BST and some kid kept taking all of the mobs so the BST couldn't level, and the kid kept laughing at him. So the BST came back as his 50BLM and killed every single thing in sight, and the kid kept saying stuff like "I'm not leaving!" blah blah blah.
So you know what the BLM did? He invite the kid to party... stupidly the kid accepted and then the BLM casted WarpII on him. =D It's even fuinnier because his HP was in Bastok.

The kid got off easy. Many Beast Masters would've just charmed and released a train on the idiot. Sure, it's against the rules, but I've seen first hand, that in practice, training mobs is never punished. By that, I mean, I was doing my typical off-levelling hobby of raising people in Shakrami. This Beast Master (and I would assume a friend or two) were repeatedly dragging dozens of scorpions, upper-tier gobs, and undead to the entrance, where they would decimate every maze resident on their return trip, and deny entry to any less than uber player wanting in. It happenned for about three hours - the place was in lockdown. I died about three times. My friend (a raise capable Rdm who took up my hobby as well), and I (living on sneak and invisibility) were frantically trying to kill off the mobs and raise the dead (and each other). Eventually, higher level help took on killing mobs, and my friend and I ran all corners of the maze giving raises. The number of requests got so high that I had to write a list on a sheet of paper to get everyone before the earlier raise requests were outscrolled in the chat log. Raising isn't quick, after all, but the shouting was.

I bloody hate trains, but at least with a train, there's someone to blame...
I was levelling my subjob on Liosliath in the Horutoto Ruins last night--I snuck into that secret area where Nana Mihgo's hideout was and started killing skeletons there (The skels check as Tough to a lv 7 whm/3blm, which is what I was, but because I was a whm and had Divine and Healing magic, I could cut through them like nothing.
As I was finishing the first tough, another one spawned right on top of me. Fine, I can take two, I just turn my attention to the next one, fire off Bene (my HP and MP were low, so I figured I'd use the MP for Banish instead of Cure) and get the second skel down to half life, and then a bloody balloon spawns right on top of me.
Game over, and I couldn't even blame anyone but dumb luck. Spawns aren't supposed to happen that fast in one tight area where you can't run away or otherwise avoid the bad guys.
Ouch!

I hate people who train things to the exit. I say if you're stupid enough to get more than one or two on you, you shouldn't escape. Usually, if I get in such a situation, I just let myself die. There's no need to cause problems for anyone else because you made a mistake.
In AO we had a saying... "Be a man, die where you stand." Nothing applies more in a zone with 300+ people in it, or at least should... but this is not the case in FFXI. Seems almost everybody trains things, so naturally, if my PT picks up and runs, I run with them. Sux when you hit annother group on the way by, but the bottom line is that noone's ever turned around and died to save me and I'll not likely do the same for anyone else. What I have, though, is go hang out in lowbie zones and kill trains as they head for the zone, my little way of showing appreciation for all the help I've ever recieved, as well as give thanks to everyone's patience from those times where it was my turn to train.
Now... in regards to people training for the purpose of killing you or your PT specifically, you can have them banned for it, but you require irrevocable evidence. If you ever see this happening to you again, have some of your filters turned off so you can see them casting their spells and spam screenshots, be sure to get a shot of the chat log, too, and BE SURE TO USE CIVIL LANGUAGE DURING THE PROCESS. Submit that to a GM and he'll get a *strict* reprimand, or maybe even a ban.
