The EoFF Screen Name Tournament Extravaganza! THE FINALS

Happy July 4th, and I think it's time to start the next edition of the Eyes on Final Fantasy Screen Name Tournament, where I pit numerous screen names together against each other to find out which is the best screen name at the moment, and join the winning screen names in the <b>UnOfficial Screen Name Hall of Fame™</b> which includes the following: Big Ogre Umaro, Rydia of Mist, Chickencha, Kawaii Ryûkishi, Mikztsu, Aexoden, Crunchy Beverage, Melted Snowman, mystic ice cube, and O_o! The upcoming tournament, which will start either tonight, Monday, or maybe even next week, once I get the permission from Rainecloud to start, or not.

This thread right now is used to discuss about the upcoming tournament, what you want to expect from it, and to discuss about past tournaments. It's all good. Later on, I'll start a new thread for the First round, which is the only round you will have to post to vote. Each numbered group have about fourteen screen names, but only sixteen out of two groups will advance. It is also the only round where you are allowed to vote up to five names per group. The next round following will start the match-ups starting with 64 names, until we end up with a final winning screen name.

This is just a thread to start the hype. Once the tournament officially start, I will provide detailed rules on how to vote correctly, and to help anyone understand what to do. :) For now, start the discussion! I will hopefully start when I get any word from Rainecloud.

I took 16 of the highest vote getting screen names in two groups (i.e. A1+A2, B1+B2, C1+C2, D1+D2) For ties, I asked my brother which name he likes. Though, he'd answer with a "**** you, Jeff" He eventually gave in and answered me. >=]

7. If you left both screen names in a match-up, I will void those "votes".

Alright, I do these every SN Competition, so here's who I think should win each round. Some of these were really tough to call.

Division A

This round has two huge names in the competition with ShlupQuack and edczxcvbnm. However, I predict that while newcomer Meat Puppet should manage an upset over ShlupQuack, that he will not be able to take on the power that is edczxcvbnm. I also predict ed here to go on to win it - but without showing his face, I do wonder...

Division B

2. #4 Shoyku**
3. #3 TheAbominatrix
4. #7 Levian*
Shoyku is just one of those names I've come to love, and I think he should cover this division quite easily and make it to the final four. Levian could prove an upset but only because he has a certain group of people working for him regardless of who he's up against. If that is the case, he might upset Shoy, but it would be a big ask (not to mention unfair).

Division C

I don't think I can take on any of these guys and I'm lucky to be here in the first place - then again, I've made it to the final before. Either way, the winner of the Roogle-Del Murder matchup should be the winner of this division. I think Roogle should win because of his name's ability to become a topic of conversation all by itself many a time, something Del Murder, while being able to do on the rare occasion, cannot compare with. Roogle has that something about his name, and I would be very happy with him making it to the final.

Division D

Spaceman Spiff - a very cool name, but not at all original, as I've seen about a dozen or so people with similar names around the internet. I think Rye will grab this round due to the lack of standout names - Xander is just another normal name like Linus and Cid, and I refuse to vote for normal names unless I have no other choice. Calliope should really take that one, but I think Rye - a huge improvement on RikkuYuna89, should pull ahead of her next round. I personally believe none of them will have any chance against the powerhouse Division C names, so no matter who wins, it will all be in vain.

If you can't figure it out, the star means they win a round, two stars means they win two rounds, three stars means they win a semi final and four stars means ed should win the whole thing.

I gotta say, I'm absoloutely gutted on a couple of the results, including one where an everyday first name has made it into the elite eight. Glad people realised that my name doesn't compare to Mo Nercy, though. Shame to see Roogle, edczxcvbnm and Meat Puppet all fall behind on this round. I could see any of them winning a future event. To be fair, though, they all lost to worthy opponents and I still believe that the winner will definitely be from either Division A or C (unless there's a huge upset or a rigging of votes).

No offence to Xander about the first name thing, but I try to avoid voting for first names at all costs as they have so little originality about them. Spaceman Spiff, while a cool name, is just taken out of a famous comic strip so isn't too original either. I'm not sure if you could call Rye original, given there's a bread out there with the same name, so I'm not <i>too</i> disappointed that she lost to Spiff. Calliope, like Spiff, was just another name taken out of a book. Division D never caught my attention.

I figured Division B would also be a bit of pot luck, and my only surprise was the winning margin between pr00t and Shoyku, as I think Shoyku is a great name. I don't know if Proto is completely original but it's original enough for me to not recognise it, so I don't have any problems with his win. Levian and Abo going right down to the wire doesn't surprise me at all, both good names but neither of them stood out to me.

In fact, the only real match I figured would be no real contest in that round would have been the one against me. Go figure. The margin between Del and Roog also surprised me in the same way the pr00t-Shoyku one did.

Since a lot of my predictions didn't make it this round, I'll go with the following from this state of play... although to be honest, every single one of these matchups could prove to be very close indeed.

Agent Proto defeats Levian.
Mo-Nercy³ defeats Del Murder.
Spaceman Spiff defeats Xander.

With players such as ed, Meat, Shoy and Roogle out of the way so early, any of those matchups could go either way... so really, I'm just taking a stab in the dark. Although I think the semi-finals should be easy A over B and C over D victories.

Usually I'm not interested in this tournament because I never advance far...but I looked back at the old tournaments. This is the 5th one that I've been in.

Proto, you should keep like...a bracket for every contest. Like how BoB keeps a Excel file for the Ciddies...it's kind of neat to look back at how far people advanced(or how unfar).
