I was very dissappointed at Square-Enix when the second disk of Xenogears was a complete screw up. Where did the intense storyline, the great gameplay, and the great backrounds of the characters go? Out the window in my opinion.
Who knows... maybe some people liked the second disk, but I for hated it. Who else felt the same way?

The second disc was alright. It wasn't as good as the first one, but I didn't dislike it.
Basically almost every area of the world had already been explored by the start of the second disc, so I guess we weren't missing out on too much exploration.
I'm never ever annoyed by storyline progression, so the whole Fei-in-chair bit didn't bother me in the least. I really don't care if my game is linear, as long as I get a good story I'm fine. As oppose to that I cannot stand non-linear plots.

I think it ruined the pace of an otherwise awesome game.

I didn't mind it too much, I find dungeons to be ways of building suspense for the next plot point. What I didn't like was the way the story flowed. I didn't like how Fei told what was going on. Some really cool moments that should've been played out in a cutscene were mild afterwards.
However the plot itself is gold on Disk 2. After all it's where things come together. Though I really felt the lack of NPC dialogue portraying various opinions on the events of the world.
Del sums up my feelings, which can be found in that dead thread you just revived.
I personally loved the whole game, but yeah...the second disk wasn't nearly as revolutionary as the first...the thing I disliked about it was the fact that they suddenly went from you actually experiencing the story to them SITTING IN CHAIRS TELLING YOU THE STORY!!@!##@$#@%$$...I just didn't get that or like that at all...ugh.
Still overall the game was awesome, none the less.

Didn't know someone had made a thread like this before.

I actually liked the second disc for what it was, and that is how you have to look at it. Stop comparing it to the first disc, and you will see it in a better light. I think that change in the gameplay for a bit added to the storyline and made it more complex. Yes, it may have made things harder to follow, but that just adds to the replay value of the game. Playing it more than once all the way through is a definite must I think. You will be able to grasp the game better and appreciate the masterpiece for what it is.

Eh? Whatever, someone close this.
I'm not criticizing you (it's a valid topic), I'm just really curious. :) Get used to it. :D

I am so glad the second disc was made that way. After 40 hours of disc 1 I wanted it wrapped up and it put out the story in huge doses which is what I wanted. It had so many powerful moments also in the story that where just awesome.
I actually like it more than disc 1 because I favor more story over random battles.
If you notice the format of disc 2 follows Xenosaga in the story to dungon aspect of things. Story, dungon, story story story DUNGON, story story story freedom but not that much because the world is a trash can now so you can really only go to the final dungon!

The second CD was good, just in different ways. Xenogears is nothing without the storyline, and I loved the storyline, therefore, as the second CD had a lot of storyline, I liked it quite a bit.
