View Full Version : Top 3 songs on a CD of your choice
The topic mesmerizes me because one day, I was thinking about my favorite songs on an album, and it was ridiculously easy to pick a top three from one album, but much harder to pick a top three from another album.
I'll start off with two.
Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind (the easy one)
1. How's It Gonna Be
2. Motorcycle Drive-By
3. Jumper
Radiohead - The Bends (the hard one)
1. Fake Plastic Trees
2. The Bends
3. My Iron Lung
So pick a CD or two, and pick your top 3 from it. Potentially argue with another over choices.

I'M GONNA STEAL ----------'S, so we can argue later on.
Third Eye Blind-Third Eye Blind
1)The Background
2)Semi-Charmed Life (so sue me )
3)London
Radiohead-The Bends
1)Street Spirit (Fade out)
2)My Iron Lung
3)Black Star
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO *is kicked by Ragnarok [Caps flood]* :D
Umm, I don't like London as much as the others, I'm pretty sure of that. Semi Charmed Life is a pretty solid song, for me it's #4. Actually, The Background or God of Wine might be #4 too... I agree with the Background being awesome, but all the three songs I listed have some special connection for me - they're all songs I've designated with certain friends to sing at the top of our lungs whenever we hear it. :D
Radiohead time. Black Star would definitely be #4, so I have no problem with that at 3. Street Spirit though... ehh... a lot of people like it but me, it seems. It's a good song, but it doesn't fit with the rest of the album. *replaces with Fake Plastic Trees, which is just a badass song* My Iron Lung at #2? No problem - I put The Bends at #2 just because it was the first song from The Bends I heard, and it works great as a pump-up song or as a chill-out song.
Evanescence:
- Tourniquet
- Imaginary
- My Last Breath
Evanescence (Fallen) <--- This is a toughie
-Hello
-Everybody's Fool
-Taking Over Me
Evanescence - Fallen
1: Going Under.
2: Hello.
3: Bring Me To Life
Looks like Evanescence was a popular choice...
1. Taking Over Me - The piano does it for me in the beginning. And the lyrics too.
2. Bring Me to Life - Oh look, another catchy piano thing. It's the first song I heard by them, and got me hooked.
3. My Immortal - I'm a sucker for piano songs with great vocals. I wish I could squeeze Hello on here.
The others:
Tourniquet - I don't like the modded voice (reminds me of Cher) even though it's only for a bit, and the chorus gets old for me after a while.
Imaginary - The violin introduction is kinda scratchy and annoying, but the piano is really good.
Hello - I like it. It's like My Immortal, but it seems less emotional, so it's not on the top 3.
Everybody's Fool - It's a good song, but just not good enough to put on a top 3, I guess.
Going Under - Same as Everybody's Fool. I like them both.
My Last Breath - Great song to get hooked on, it was probably #4. I think the only thing was the odd intro.
(PS: Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Abbey Road and S.P.L.H.C.B. should all really be heard in full to fully be appreciated)
Totally true - I agree. That makes it harder to pick out songs, though, for Pink Floyd especially - it doesn't make their songs stick out in my head much, and I can't listen to them with Shuffle on. I liked the title track on SPLHCB, though.
9. Led Zeppelin ~ Led Zeppelin II
- Heartbreaker
- Livining Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)
- Thank You
7. AC/DC ~ Back in Black
- Back in Black
- Hells Bells
- You Shook me All Night Long
5. Led Zeppelin ~ IV
- Misty Mountain Hop
- Stairway to Heaven
- Going to California
3. Led Zeppelin ~ Houses of the Holy
- The Rain Song
- No Quarter
- Over the Hills and Far Away
3. I'd definitely put The Song Remains the Same on there somewhere. I can't decide what I'd kick off, though...
5. No Black Dog? When the Levee Breaks? I know Black Dog would be on my top 3 for sure. I like Misty Mountain Hop and Going to California, but I like When the Levee Breaks more than either of those. And Stairway to Heaven would be #1 for me (Black Dog #2, Levee #3).
7. I agree with the top three for AC/DC... I even agree on the order, in fact. Back in Black is just badass. I like to sing You Shook Me All Night Long when I'm ridiculously drunk. Don't know if that's good or not.
9. Whole Lotta Love, Ramble On, Heartbreaker. As you can see, we're almost completely in disagreement. But seriously, Whole Lotta Love is too awesome to leave off your list. I can understand maybe leaving off Ramble On, but Whole Lotta Love? *cries, or angries, or something*

Radiohead - OK Computer
1. No Suprises
2. Let Down
3. Karma Police
If I would've put a lot of thought into that, it'd have been harder. But I'm just thinking of them off the top of my head.
Radiohead - The Bends
1. Street Spirit
2. Fake Plastic Trees
3. The Bends
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (this is an easy one)
1. Wish You Were Here
2. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 6-9)
3. Have A Cigar
Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
1. Time
2. Speak To Me/Breathe
3. Brain Damage
Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antartica
1. The Stars Are Projectors
2. Life Like Weeds
3. 3rd Planet
Radiohead - OK Computer
1. No Suprises
2. Let Down
3. Karma Police
If I would've put a lot of thought into that, it'd have been harder. But I'm just thinking of them off the top of my head.
Blah!
1. Exit Music
2. The Tourist
3. Airbag
Complete disagreement. Airbag's been awesome ever since I saw them play it on their second encore at Hollywood, and a good fast paced song. Exit Music and The Tourist are great powerful and emotional songs too. Karma Police is good, so I kinda agree with that. Not as good as the three I picked, in my opinion.
Shoeberto
07-09-2004, 03:15 AM
Airbag is definately a solid intro to the album, but it's never had a really profound impact on me. Exit Music is really good, but I listened to it to death before getting the album. And The Tourist was, in my opinion, the weakest song on the album. It didn't feel right as an outro.

this is how it goes, Radiohead fans:
Radiohead- The Bends
1. Sulk
2. Just
3. Planet Telex
Radiohead - OK Computer
1. Climbing Up the Walls
2. Airbag
3. Subterranean Homesick Alien
(exit music is SO annoying because Thom is miked WAY too closely)
Radiohead - Kid A
1. Kid A
2. Morning Bell
3. How to Disappear Completely
Radiohead - Amnesiac
1. Knives Out
2. Dollars and Cents
3. Like Spinning Plates
Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
1. Myxomatosis
2. Where I End and You Begin
3. The Wolf at the Door
and, for something a little different:
Pearl Jam - No Code
1. In My Tree
2. Red Mosquito
3. Hail, Hail
Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights:
1. Leif Ericson
2. Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down
3. The New
Radiohead - Kid A
1. Kid A
2. Morning Bell
3. How to Disappear Completely
Radiohead - Amnesiac
1. Knives Out
2. Dollars and Cents
3. Like Spinning Plates
Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
1. Myxomatosis
2. Where I End and You Begin
3. The Wolf at the Door
You definitely forgot Idioteque. *kicks out How to Disappear Completely, and puts it at #2*
You also forgot Life in a Glass House. *kicks out Dollars and Cents, and puts it at #1* Agree with the other two.
And finally, um, Go to Sleep? There There? 2+2=5? I'd at least kick out Where I End and You Begin and put one of those three in there. Maybe kick out Myxomatosis too (finds it annoying). I don't think I'd put in 2+2, actually.
Radiohead- The Bends
1. Sulk
2. Just
3. Planet Telex
*shakes head* Good songs, but definitely not the best. I like Just a lot and Planet Telex a fair amount, though.
Radiohead - OK Computer
1. Climbing Up the Walls
2. Airbag
3. Subterranean Homesick Alien
(exit music is SO annoying because Thom is miked WAY too closely)
I only find he's miked too close on live versions (Utrecht, Holland is the live version I have). Climbing Up the Walls reminds me too much of a Rob Dougan song, which also wasn't that great (even though Radiohead probably made theirs first).
And The Tourist was, in my opinion, the weakest song on the album. It didn't feel right as an outro.
Really? I thought it worked pretty well... I can't think of anything else that would have worked, maybe No Surprises...
edit: Come to think of it, Street Spirit is probably a better song than The Bends... meh... I'd still keep My Iron Lung up there.

Myxomatosis is possibly the best song Radiohead has ever made, with the possible exception of Cuttooth. Sulk is by far the best song on The Bends. I also did not forget any of those other songs.
Lucky was supposed to be the end of OK, but then Jonny added on The Tourist, which is a good song. Then again, Motion Picture was supposed to go on OK also.

Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd):

Aqualung (Jethro Tull):

Btw, Paranoid Android is Radiohead's best song, I think. It has more dimensions than their other songs. Exit Music is alright. Karma Police is easy to listen to though, and that's why it's good.

Heh, yeah I know, but Bike is such a fun song to listen too. And when you listen to the LP right upto the end, it repeats that crazy music over and over again, like at the end of S.P.L.H.C.B. :)
I like the rest of your Led picks, White Raven. Although I'd stick Babe I'm Gonna Leave You in Led Zeppelin I. *sticks* :D
eest, "You forgot this song" is my way of saying "I disagree with you". (Or "you're wrong". :D) But seriously, I can't agree.
Yams, Paranoid Android is pretty solid... yeah, but not my favorite. I think it was originally three songs that they just melded together. I thought that was pretty cool.

Mine won't be in any specific order, just what I believe to be the top three at the time of posting this.
The Best Beer Drinking Songs In The World Volume 2
1) The Exponents - Why Does Love Do This To Me
2) The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)
3) Denis Leary - Asshole
Bryan Adams - MTV Unplugged
1) When You Love Someone
2) Heaven
3) I'll Always Be Right There
Byran Adams - 18 'til I Die
1) 18 'til I Die
2) Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman
3) I'll Always Be Right There
the goo goo dolls - dizzy up the girl
1) Name
2) Iris
3) Broadway
Tough call on that last one. Slide, Broadway, Black Balloon, All Eyes On Me, Acoustic #3, Hate This Place, Slave Girl... yikes.
Creed - Human Clay
1) Higher
2) With Arms Wide Open
3) Wash Away Those Years
MIC - Crazy World
1) Rain
2) Once
3) Psychedelic (:D)
Even though none of you would have ever heard of MIC aside from me, but oh well. Unless you've heard of it through me. Or you're Graham (Raven at EoFF).
Alanis Morissette - jagged little pill
1) Perfect
2) You Oughta Know
3) Right Through You
This one was bloody difficult because I love every single one of the songs on this album. Bugger.
Rod Stewart - If We Fall In Love Tonight
1) All For Love
2) Broken Arrow
3) Have I Told You Lately
I would have put Forever Young if it was actually a decent version instead of that damned 1996 version.
Crowded House - Recurring Dream Special Edition Live Album
1) Don't Dream It's Over
2) Better Be Home Soon
3) When You Come
This was tough, too. Well, the last one was, and the second was sorta tough. Hugely unlucky for Weather With You to not get in, and I'm 100% confident that it's not made it due to me being too tired for it at the moment. But otherwise, Private Universe, Into Temptation and Four Seasons In One Day were unlucky too.
the goo goo dolls - dizzy up the girl
1) Name
2) Iris
3) Broadway
Tough call on that last one. Slide, Broadway, Black Balloon, All Eyes On Me, Acoustic #3, Hate This Place, Slave Girl... yikes.
That is a difficult one - I think I would end up putting Black Balloon over Broadway, and switch Iris and Name. Or maybe switch... errgh. :)

I want to know why people like this song. Its so boring and unemotional, the same riff is repeated for so long. The only cool part is that Cliff Burton wrote the diolauge in the song.
