I couldn't find this in the forums, so I'll ask and apologize if it's been asked a million times.
That Atma Weapon, that blue thing, how does it work?
I read that it does more damage if you have higher HP, and that's very obvious. (Good Job zombifying the dude with Atma Weapon! HAHA! Idiot Necs.)
But then I read that it levels when you level, and this I don't understand. Peoiple put a lot of stock into the weapon, and I'm just figuring it now, in the WoR, that maybe I should have been using it.
So.... Question.
1. Does it get stronger and more damaging per, I guess, HP? Or does it get stronger another way.
2. If the other way is leveling, does that mean that I should restrict the Atma Weapon to a single character who will carry it and level with it and, I guess, someday, kick ass with it? Or, again, does it work another way?
Or am I retarded?

I don't know, the look doesn't change... maybe bad translation?
It gets longer as you get to higher levels, and as you get more HP.

Basically all that means is that at your level up it grows stonger because your hit points increase. Just like everyone else is saying.

And it changes form. It gets longer and bluer as it gets stronger.

Bender!
And you can get two, actually. You find one, you can steal the other. I believe from one of the Goddess statues at the end, but I could be wrong. Someone will correct me if so.

TheAbominatrix is almost there, but not exactly right. You can't get an extra Atma Weapon from the Goddess statues, but you can steal one from the 3rd tier during the final battle. Of course, that means you only get to use it against Kefka, but if you pair it with another Atma Weapon and Offering, you can slaughter the last boss with one hit.
But then I read that it levels when you level, and this I don't understand.
Others have explained this pretty much already, but I don't really think the logic of leveling up is "more levels = more HP = more power". Instead, Atma Weapon's power is probably based on some formula which counts both your HP and your level. This means two things:
1) A level 99 character will do more damage with Atma Weapon than a level 50 character (even if they have the same amount of HP).
2) A character with 9999 HP will do more damage with Atma Weapon than one with 5000 HP (even if their level is the same).

That's it, I knew it was one or the other. Thank you muchly for clearing that up.

I don't have any pictures, but when you first get it you'll find that it resembles a dirk or another dagger-type weapon. As you progress it will later resemble a sword type weapon. At high levels it resembles a large blue blade that flashes when you attack with it, almost as if there were several being used in one slash.

You find it in the Cave to the Esper World after you rescue the espers from the MagiTek Research Facility.

why would u get such a good weapon (i think) in the middle close to the near end of the game?
TheAbominatrix

Because the weapon isnt a super weapon. As everyone has already said, it levels up with you, so at first it's a pretty normal weapon. The more you level up, the better it gets.

No, there are only two in the game; the one in the cave to the esper town and the one you steal during the final battle.

Um...
I made it to level 50, and the Atma Weapon never really became that cool for me. About one point does it start to be all badass with the 9999s and such?
Because it is a very powerful weapon (If I recall, it does around 3000 dmg or something. But still, maybe not even that), but it doesn't compare with weapons that keep doing 2000 damage when you're at half health and don't need to waste a turn healing yourself.
