I think he eats them.

Belly. In the better translation, doesnt he make a puking sound when you take things back?

Who the hell would trust a giant bird in a random forest that eats your stuff?

He eats them, and then gets stuck in his rectum...

Belly. In the better translation, doesnt he make a puking sound when you take things back?Yes. That bird swallows your items, then regurgitates them on command. His fondness for ingesting everything from potions to suits of armour to "smut" magazines undoubtedly accounts for his considerable girth.

In his big, fat, belly.

I think that he swallows your items, but I'm not really sure that he regurgitates them...

What's up with all this hating on fat chocobos, man? Just because the bird is fat, ya'll got to assume that he swallows things like swords, shields, and potions? Then he somehow, magically, is supposed to regurgitate it up like a slob, yet maintain their pristine condition?

You're all sick!

Obviously, the fat chocobo is a glutton, but give him a rest. Obviously, this bit about keeping all these valuable items safe, and not stealing them or charging you, is a sign that he wants to be a better person. Er, creature.
He's very popular; he's rich, and he's your friend. He knows that he is too bulky to survive as a Light Warrior, but he's offering his services to help you store your items practically for free. All he wants in return is a carrot. (He's hoping that a carrot diet, one at a time, will help him to lose some weight.)

Yet you, who were so immensley helped by him, still have to bash him like this. Ya'll are the pigs.

Don't insult the Fat Chocobo, guys! He was very useful in FF3j, and his trademark music is very cool. :choc: Anyway, I think he has a bottomless bag within him, and the bag is even larger than your item storage. Then you can always choose which items will come out of him. If he ate and puked them, don't you think the items would be in a bad condition and probably all covered in all kinds of slime and acid (eww...)? And a point to make: have you ever noticed that the Fat Chocobos disappeared in FF5 and the FFs after that, right after you got infinite storage space to your own characters?

*confirms picture is from FFIIIj*

Fat Chocobo could just crap them out too. I believe it was called Lardass Chocobo in the FFIV Hardtype version. :D

*confirms too* that picture is certainly from FF3j. Lardass Chocobo? o_O Are the fan translations of FF3j and FF4 (hard type) the only ones that call him the Fat Chocobo? I think FF4 easy type (USA version, also known as FF2 SNES) calls it the Chubby Chocobo.

In FFVIII, there's a "Chubby Chocobo" card.

I see. FF4 Anthology European should have the same translation as FF4 Chronicles USA, and the J2e translation of FF4 Hard Type also calls the bird "Fat Chocobo." In that case, which version calls him the Lardass Chocobo?

Doomsday: Thanks for reminding me that FF9 also had an over-sized Chocobo for storing items. Can anyone confirm if the one in FF9 was called Fat or Chubby Chocobo?

The bird is called Big Chocobo in FF3j and FF4 soundtracks, BTW.

He shoves them up his...beak.

Anyway, wasn't there a second version of Choco-Mog on FFVII where Fat Chocobo would come and anhilate the enemy? Or did I imagine that?

Yep, there's a small (about 1/16, I think) chance that you'll get a Fat Chocobo when summoning Choco-Mog in FF7. The big bird falls on all the enemies and causes a lot of wind-elemental damage. The Fat Chocobo summon is somewhat more powerful than the normal Choco-Mog summon.

re: "Lardass"

Fan translations are fond of putting in obscenities that were not in the original.
