Is there anyway for us to set what we want for defaults when subscribing to threads? Right now the default is to be notified by email when the thread is posted in, which I don't want.

http://forums.eyesonff.com/profile.php?do=editoptions then search for:
Default Thread Subscription Mode

That's just asking if you want to automatically subscribe to a thread when you create a thread or post in one. What I'm looking for is a setting where I can specify what is selected by default in the notification type drop down list when I specify that I want to subscribe to a thread.

It'd be easy to change what the default is for everyone, but I can't think of any easy way to do it on a per-user basis. Not easy enough that I'd be willing to try. But maybe Arche can do it.

I'd have answered long ago if I knew what the heck he was talking about :p

Click on "Thread tools", then "Subscribe to this thread". See what the default is (send email if I remember right)? That's what FM wants to be able to choose, what it picks by default, so he doesn't have to use the choose box every time.

Correct. I'm lazy and every extra click I perform is one too many. I was looking for a way to set the default choice when I subscribe to a thread. But yeah, I was only looking for a way to do it on my own, I didn't want to make any admin's get their hands dirty.

As far as I can tell, that sort of info isn't stored in the database itself, so adding that option would require adding an extra column to one of the tables.

That's what I figured. Any per-user setting like that is going to have to be stored in the database. Or using cookies, but that's even suckier.

Okay, nevermind then. I didn't know if there was some switch in vb3 that we had access to that would let us set that.

Can't it be added as a custom field in the user profile, though?

Oh yeah, I guess there's that option :p

EDIT: Does that work for you now?

Okay, it defaults to "No email notification" now.

But is that a board default for everyone now or is there somewhere that we can set that in our control panel? I don't want to cause a ruckus by changing what the board's default choice is because I know people like being notified of new posts, that's why I stayed away from the feedback forum asking for a new default selection.

It's the default, unless you explicitly set it in your user options.

If there's a thread you want to keep your eye on, you can subscribe to it and be notified when it's posted in. It's probably in the FAQ, though I'm not too sure. :) And someone's going to close this thread because it's a year old. :D

It's not really an archive, because if the thread is deleted in the forum, it'll disappear from your folder too :p But yes, you can use it as a convenient place to put threads in the same place that you want to watch :p
