FFVIII Demo packaged with Parasite Eve

I just Recently bought Parasite Eve new, from an EB games. It had the old Squaresoft demo in it, with FFVIII, Brave Fencer Musashi, Xenogears, and Bushido blade on it. anyway, It has all these CGI cutscenes (the big FANCY ones) from the dollet mission. of course it does a great job showing off the graphics engine... but what gets to me, is in all these scenes, Rinoa is in the group fighting, and Rinoa has replaced Zell in the escape boat, waving to squall when he's running down the beach from the AXM-whatever.

And all the characters are in their own clothes, not SeeD uniforms. It was probably beta stuff, but when has anyone produced lengthy CGI scenes before they were ironclad? i mean, squall was running from the AXM in his pimp jacket and leathers, and rinoa's on the boat? wtf?

um.... so the much delayed question is, has anyone else caught this? and has anyone heard anything about what the story WAS supposed to be, or why it was scrapped?

are talking about the mission on disc 1 where you first fight bigs and wedge and get siren? You didnt meet rinoa till later. Im so confused.

I've seen it. They just wanted to give the players a taste of what they'd be getting in the game, so they altered bits of it to better represent the game as a whole as opposed to just that part.

I got my demo from pizza hut. Pizza and final fantasy? It can't get much better than that.

But anyways. Yeah, I always thought that was weird too, but like the abominatrix said, it was just to show us what we were gonna be expecting, characterwise, outfitwise? too maybe. I think it's weird how they would spend that much time making those CGs, but then completely re-doing them for the actual game. I think that's a little stupid, but it's cool that i can always watch a different version of the scene. ;)

The demo I had displayed the credits at an extremely high speed as the machine guns on the ship fired off. I laughed my *** off when I saw that, but I'm not positive why.

Check his jacket? It's his black 'look how cool I am' jacket, in the full version game he wares a SeeD uniform. Discovered this some while ago, had this background as a wallpaper set :)

Right - in the DEMO version of FF8, rather than directly give players part of the real game, they gave gamers an alternate mission to Dollet involving Rinoa and with the characters wearing normal clothing. To my knowledge, this was to keep the actual plot of FF8 a secret until the game was released.

ah, that makes a bit more sense, if it was playable in another demo. I just found it absolutely BIZARRE they'd spend that much money on CG they weren't going to use, in the real game anyway. and i've seen that wallpaper too and never noticed about the jacket....

FFVII Platinum came with an FFVIII demo, with two FMVs. One of these was an old-style black-and-white version of the dance scene; the other was based on the intro FMV, interspersed with clips from other scenes in the game. There are brief flashes of the Dollet escape, where all the characters and costumes have been changed like SocietyzAntidote described.
