Personally cant think of any new jobs that wont tip the balance..seeing the game as it is...they would be weak at first..but so overpowered later on..

They have "blue mages" in the game. They're called Beastmasters.

Beastmasters have a different purpose than Blue Mages, Beastmaster is a solo job, and lets their monster act as a party member, Blue Mages on the other hand use abilities that were learned from monsters and use them on the party ie : White Wind

I've heard rumors of Blue Mage being added with Rise of Zilarth. I'd love to see at least one new job, no matter what it is.
Ouch!

We already have Rise of the Zilart, perhaps you mean Chains of Promathia?
I've talked about blue mages with my friend. We'd both love to see them, but they'd be horribly unbalanced. At lower levels, all their spells would be weak and next to useless. At higher levels, their spells would be so powerful it wouldn't even be funny.
I think their current selection of jobs is perfectly fine. They've covered almost every job that has ever appeared in the series.
A geomancer would be interesting, but would be extremely limited.
Traditionally a Blue Mage had to get hit with a mob's spell to learn it, I can see how this would pose the same problem it has in every other FF game.... Blue mage dies, PT dies, you don't learn the spell. Nothing major for hte low lvl crap but later on when you want to learn some uber secret ability off a mob up in Xacabard or something... well, you'd be screwed.
I agree with the concensus here, the game is already very well balanced and the fact that you can change jobs yourself anytime you like more than makes up for the other less popular FF jobs not being implemented... in fact I believe it justifies it.

Thats not given, if you read from the person stating facts about the new expansion, they are refusing to give any info for new jobs, personally i like to see SMN and DRG a little fixed on some issues first.
Well How about Oracles from FFT. Yin-yang magic may be pretty cool

SEX MAGIC!
It'd be interesting, to say the least, of how that would be implemented.

Good way to make gil.
'Casts Pimpin' muh hoes III'
'Player X has been turned into your hoe!'
'This hoe will make you 50 gil a minute, mediocre at best'
'Do you wish to keep this hoe?'
Be like BST but you'd be PPM -- Pimp Mage *nods* *goes back to bed*

Sex magic? It's been done kinda. At least on Titan, there was a person named Britneyspears that /shouted in Sandoria all the time offering her oral services for 100 gil. ;p
Might be something to look into. I could always have a ho mule.

Bear in mind, though, that you'd have to be level 60 before you could do the Prostitute Quest to attain the new super-advanced job class.
................... Oh you people lol *Dances*
Ouch!

If they added anything it'd have to be a new type of mage. They've only really got white, black and red mages and summoner. Bard fits the a support role, but is not technically a mage. But like Lionx mentioned, there really isn't any magic that isn't already covered by the classes.
An oracle would be interesting, but not too terribily useful. Red mages easily fill the role for debuffing, and unless oracles had some more powerful debuffs they've wouldn't make the cut. And even then, they would do much good.
I'd like to see necromancers. It would work fairly well, as it has in other MMORPG. Undead pets and probably a bit of black magic to throw in. That'd be pretty fun.
You know... That doesn't sound too bad... I bet the AF for something like a necromancer would look pretty sweet, too... Hmm... If that ever happened I think I may finally be able to muster the patience to be a mage. Good call.
Do you guys think That Dancers would be a good one?

Assassin would be a good one. At least it would give all off the dumb kids who "warship saten" something other than DRK to play as.
Ouch!

An assassin would be interesting, though I can't really think of what skills it could possibly have. Most of the abilities that would go with an assassin are pretty much already covered by ninjas and thieves.

It would be evil, though. Take Sneak and Invisible and a lot of black magic as well as massive criticals with daggers

Something me and my fiancee have discussed is the Geomancer. The geomancer is utter crap in the other FFs it was in. However, It could actually really really work in a game like FF XI and not throw the balance too much.
Part of the biggest let down in other FFs with Geos is that they could not choose their attacks directly. The attacks were fairly random based on terrain and weak making them kinda suck. Mostly the menu systems just never allowed for a really intricate use of Geos.
It would be similar to the Bard but unlike the Bard it would actually use attacks without using MP (I know the Bard can but... come on... really).
This might easily tip the balance you would think being able to basically nuke without MP but I'm not so sure.
Mog was a Geomancer/Dancer in FF VI. If you take the dancing part out you could have the same pros and cons on a Geo for FF XI. A Geo could use only the terrain around them to their extreme benefit. However, if they try to use other terrain abilities the ability would likely fail, not be usable, or be severely weakened.
The balance actually works for a lot of mobs. Think about the worms that are so often in rocky areas but not weak against stone. This would put the geomancer at a loss... therefore not making it over balanced.
Additionally, the visuals for a potential Geomancer would look very cool I would think.
So...
-Light nukes without MP
-No major balance issues
-Potentially cool animations
-etc...
Well what If certain races had their own jobs. Example Golka = Berserker?
Ouch!
07-31-2004, 01:33 AM
If they gave each race a job, it would upset people. If they wanted that job to be available to them, they'd have to start a new character, and I'm sure a bunch of people wouldn't be too terribly willing to pay an extra $1 or delete their current character just to play as that job.
