So, who here enjoys Iron Chef, the awesome cooking battle show on Food Network?
I think it's a great show (and watching it makes the cooking battle minigames in some RPGs like Star Ocean 2 more fun) and I really love the food they cook, even though I'd never be able to afford any of it.
Watching it while hungry and with an empty fridge is not a good idea.
So, whose your favorite Iron Chef? Mine is Japanese Morimoto, and French Sakai.

I have no idea what you are talking about, so I am going to envisage an awesome game show with Bob Saget as the host, and some guy who can't cook for his girlfriend, so he takes out the secret amulet of DOOM and utters some catchphrase, and then there's a gong and some mist, and out comes IRON MAN! Except of course he has a cute frilly apron and a chef's hat, and they wheel him out on a caterer's trolley at a high speed, and then out comes some other guy like...Dr Doom! And he no wait it'll be the um...um...the chef from the muppet show! With Gonzo and some chickens in tow because for some reason they really like Gonzo. And then they'll have to cook something. And Pai Mai will be the judge of their ridiculous cooking, and...yes.

That is exactly what it is!
Except it's a Japanese show about a man whose all rich and he's like "I like food!" and so he builds a place called kitchen stadium, and recruits the best chefs of every sort of cooking (Japanese, French, Chinese, and Italian) and calls them the Iron Chefs. The Iron Chefs are challenged by chefs from all over the world, one on one battles. Every battle has a theme ingredient revealed to the chefs at the beginning of the battle, and they have one hour to make as many dishes as they wish, all with whatever the ingredient is (if the ingredient is lobster, every dish has to have lobster in it, no matter what). Then, after the hour is up, they're judged by a panel of experts and famous types, judged on taste and presentation.
It's awesome, WATCH IT!
edit: And, all of this is real and live, the only actor is the 'owner'.

I prefer the cooking side game in Suikoden 2.

I love Iron Chef. Especially the dubbed judges. Hilarious.
I'm also particular fond of the episode when they ran out of ideas for the special ingredient and used Milk.

I want to watch Calliope's show :(
I haven't watched Iron Chef in a long time, but I agree about the dubbing being wonderfully funny.

Iron Chef is one of the greatest shows ever made. They recently did Iron Chef America: Battle of the Masters, but it was a complete disgrace. Every Japanese Iron Chef lost, and I figure it was because there was basically no diversity on the judging panels.
Except for Puck Vs. Morimoto. I have to say Puck really deserved the win there. But dumbass Bobby Flay over the Sakai? He masked the trout in his dishes.
My favorite character on Iron Chef is Chairman Kaga. That guy has so much class. He's almost as cool as Fabio. One time he came riding into Kitchen Stadium on a horse. My favorite Iron Chef is the legendary Hiroyuki Sakai. He was also crowned King of the Iron Chefs. Although he hasn't been there the longest, I think he does have the best record out of all of them, and never lost a fish battle other than that fiasco with Flay.
I have 3 Iron Chef T-shirts. I got them from www.buyironchef.com
I have one that has a big picture of Kaga biting a pepper with the words "Whose cuisine reigns supreme?" on the front and "If memory serves me right" on the back.
I have one with the three iron chefs (excluding Kobe like always) in their badass ascension poses with the words "Arise Iron Chefs!"
Finally I have one with Sakai in his badass pose holding the pear. It has the words "Iron Chef French" on it. Awesome shirts. Sometimes I get comments from people praising the awesomeness of the shirt, but that is a rare occasion.

To all that I just have to say... oh Bobby Flay. What an whiney idiot.

I can't believe that jerk was representing America. He insulted the Iron Chefs by standing on the cutting board, and then whined about his equipment when he lost.
There were so many complaints on the food network boards when they announced Bobby Flay would be in Battle of the Masters as one of the three chefs. I think it's safe to say that absolutely nobody wants his ass in Kitchen Stadium.
If I watched TV, that show would be one of my favorites. I saw a few episodes and was simply amazed.

Fun fact about Chairman Kaga:
He actually is a very accomplished actor in Japan and had the lead role in Les Misérables, playing Valjean for a few seasons when it came to the Far East.
Iron Chef is a wonderfully entertaining show and I thank heavens that I discovered it a few years ago. The dubbing is absolutely wonderful, in that it makes everyone seem completely banal and out of touch, yet still completely crazy and in love with the show and events.
Side question, why is a fortune teller almost always on the tasting panel?
Whose cuisine reigns supreme?!
Take care all.

Isn't there one old grumpy judge who just hates everything anyone makes? And some girl judge who seems giggly and mindless? Though it is kind of hard to tell because of the English voiceovers. Been a while since I watched it anyways. It is a fairly interesting show, and sometimes good insight into Japanese culture. And I doubt I'd eat a single thing I've ever seen made on the show.

It's a great show, but I have to say that Japanese cuisine is clearly the very embodiment of evil.
Chairman Kaga is the greatest person ever to live, by the way.

They have two constant judges, a man (some food expert dude) and the old fortune teller lady The Captain mentioned. Then two guests, often a Japanese actress... I dunno if they're all really that dumb, but the dubbing always serves to make the actress seem like a total idiot.
And the secret ingredient is... DUNGENESS CRAB!!!

mine is the Japanese chef Morimoto especily in the egg one where he went up against the chef who caterd whats his faces 80th birthday party where he served longevity noodles
Oh man!
I just saw the episode where the challenger was solo, and the chef he challenged fired his assistants to compete. It was so intense, and the secret ingredient was peaches. It was so cool, but heartbreaking that the challenger didn't win. I KNEW he used too much butter in the lobster entree... dammit.

That show makes me really hungry. I love exotic foods. I'm tired of the same old things! :choc:
