RPG Maker 2000 is just about the best out there.

Yeah, you're really not gonna beat RM2k in terms of ease of use and power. RM2k3 threw in too many odds and ends that made it a bit more of a hassle, and all the other homebrew-style ones are kinda clunky and complex.

i get that but RPG Maker 2k just doesn't have what I need or let me do what I want to

If you don't mind paying for it, Dark Basic is a wonderful piece of software for game creation, practically limitless in terms of creativity. The up side is that it's centered around game creation, meaning it's easy to make simple stuff (read: easier than learning the basics of C++ and slowly crawling your way up the ladder towards making full fledged games).

The down side is that, since you get a packaged engine, there isn't much upgradability...but everything I've seen done has been quite impressive for a package I payed $30 for. Now I just have to get that whole...y'know, 3D modelling thing down -_-

RPG Advocate is working on a translation of RPG Maker XP, which is already out in Japan. It improves on 2k and 2k3 in every way. I personally was unable to find a worthwhile 2k3 translation so I stuck with 2k until I got sick of RPG Making altogether about a year ago.

I can only recommend RPG2K3, but you're not interested, are you?

You'll have to use Dark Basic, then.

WOTM (http://www.warofthemagi.com) You can find RM2K/3 or links to it somewhere around there (they have to keep changing it because Enterbrain is actually taking action to this...you do know that it was illeagally translated and released, right?). You might have to search the forums, even.

I have RPG Maker for the Playstation, but it sucks ace. I also have RPG Maker 2 for the Playstation 2, and it's not too bad, but it's majorly confusing to use (and difficult without mouse support...that it was intended to have at first).

Slacker has already pointed out RPG Maker XP, which will probably be translated.. illegally.. however, you could do the legal jive and buy it. From Japan. And learn Japanese. Yup.

They've translated RMXP already, they seem to be having heaps of trouble with the authentication protection on it.

Could someone tell me WHERE precisely in there it is? I can't seem to find it anywhere in there.

I think the only good thing about RMXP is that it's got GEM coding embedded into it. I downloaded it in English a while ago and the entire thing was totally :love::love::love:ed up, that's why I say buy it in Japanese; but it might be easier going for C++. (Than all that darned red tape with translating)

Click here (http://www.warofthemagi.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14) to get RM2K3. It's not a direct link because you should read what's on that page (if you can, you might have to sign up...I don't know), and it gives links for the best other downloads for RM2K3, in case their's don't work for you.
