FF7 gets stuck immediately

I have recently installed FF7. If i run it, it comes to the screen wtih the sword, asking me whether i want to start a new game or continue. I can't chose either way, the screen is just stuck there... According to the task manager it doesn't crash.

I've installed the XP patch, but nothing changed.

Is there some other patch I need to find, and if so where?

My system:
Laptop
Mobile P4 2800
512 Mb RAM
no graphic accelerator
video card with 16Mb

Try to clean your CD. It helped when I had a similar problem with FFVIII.

i agree. the pc version has crap graphics, compared to the PSX one. and unless you have a game controller to hook up... using the controls sucks, because you have to use the keyboard.

Cleaning CDs doesn't help, and getting a PS is currently beyond my budget... however I'd really like to get this to work...

PS out of budget? It's only about $50 now. 'Course, that's out of my budget too, so I see what you mean :(.

However, what are you trying to use to go anywhere? The default keyboard settings make you use the NUMpad ENTER button to select stuff.
