Ok, BoB and I have decided to give each continent and archipelago a name. Now, on or near each continent/archipelagos are unnamed forests, mountains, and various forms of water. We'll be allowing you to name them.

Here are the names of the continents/archipelagos:
Annifontia, Dominia, Eisgaea, Myridia, and Verdantia

Recognize some of the names? :p

Anyway, here's the map. Now get to naming the rest of Eizon's natural features.

HINT!: Most of the scattered green areas on Eizon are your typical forests/woods. The dark green area of region 1, or Myridia, is a particularly dense coniferous forest mostly full of pinetrees. The kind of forest you may find in the Northwest area of the US, and in the Scandinavian countries. The forest in region 7, or the left island of the Annifontia, is a rainforest/jungle. Keep that in mind.

Yeah Verdantia! I assume it describes a lush, verdant place, of course... :D

I think the desert on the main island of the Verdantia area should be called the Yrrid (YUH-rid) Desert.

And the river running through the main island should be called the Cleft River. (cleft the island in twain!)

I dunno, really - I'm happy Verdantia was chosen for a region. I tried thinking of naming something after myself, but Neel doesn't really flow well with anything I could think of, nor does princeofdarknez. Shame. :(

I name the big mountain in Dominia Tulivaara, the island Ahma and the southern forest Verisalo. :D

You could say that. ;)

That's no desert. Deserts are obviously bright yellowish. That "desert" is like the plains with grains and stuff. Yrrid Plains should work.

And the eastern isle from Ahma I'll call, starting from the north, Pohja, Itä, Etä and Lounas, which translate to "Bottom" (from which the word "pohjoinen", north is derived), "east", "far (away)" (from which etelä, "south" is derived), and "lounas", which is the actual name for south-west.

Finnish has individual names for EIGHT cardinal points on the compass - though it seems no one remembers the order for the intermediate points. Starting from north, moving clockwise, they are: pohjoinen, koillinen, itä, kaakko, etelä, lounas, länsi, luode. Which, I hear is pretty unique. :D

EDIT:

And while I'm at it, I'm giving names to the land-masses, too!

Left to right, Myritiä, Vertanttia, Eiskaja, Anivonttia, and Kotosaaret.

The river in Eiskaja is obviously Jakojoki. The island south of Vertanttia is Mousari, and the easternmost island in Anivonttia is Tammila.

Ach, I'm naming the islands west of my realm!
North to south, Piensaari, Suursaari, Siniviiri, Punaviiri, Viherviiri and Keltaviiri.

*smacks self* :D

The mountains on Verdantia should be called the Alte Spitze or Alte Berg.
(German for Ancient Peak, I think.)

And that little mountain on the SW corner of the mainland of Verdantia? Name it Verdriet Mountain - it is the sore thumb ruining the tranquil, serene, and perfect landscape of the Verdantian continent. Some believe is the accumulation of all the sorrows and fears ignored by the peoples of Verdantia, who prefer to live in their wondrous habitat of innocence. Religious cults can form around this mountain, which would be cool.
(Verdriet is Dutch for sorrow, I think? Cool because it feels as if the peoples of the continent tried to cover up its symbolism by naming it similar to the "perfect" continent where they live.)

Ooh, the waters!

Well, the waters south of Ahma is called... Kaukameri.
East, between Ahma and the Ilmansaaret, I name Suolavesi.
West, between Ahma and the Kivisaarikko is Hopeavesi.
North of Ahma, between Vertanttia and Eiskaja, is Pohjan Valtameri.
To the west, beyond Kivisaarikko, south of Eiskaja and east of Anivonttia is Läntinen.
The. What'sitcalled. Thingie in land, opens to the sea. Not harbour... Gulf. No, bay! The bay to which Jakojoki runs is of course Jakolahti.
The island southeast of Mousari? That's Eiskari.
The two islands south of Eiskaja? Varinen and Orinen.
The straits between islands in Ilmansaaret are, counting from Ahma clockwards, Ahmantie, Pohjantie, Koillansalmi, and Lännentie.
The straits between the islands in Kivisaarikko are, counting widdershins, and not counting the area between Piensaari and Ahma, Pikkutie, Eiskajansalmi, Sinisalmi, Ulkosalmi and Sisäsalmi. There area between Punasaari and the others is not a named strait.

Nait, before you name absoloutely everything in regions that are inhabited by other nations, keep in mind that this thread is mainly for things that exist in multiple regions - in other words, if someone lives on an island, they can name that island if they want to. Of course I'm sure anyone would be happy with your suggestions. I like the compass idea. :)

Well, I'm just giving Finnish names to be used in my realm. <_< Taking first dibs on places that I actually might rule - like Ahma. And maybe Kaukameri.

Czanthor, you can name whatever is entirely within your region whatever you like. Nait is just offering ideas, I guess. I'm hoping for variety throughout the world, some Elvish, some English, some Finnish, etc.

On a side-note, I am positivelly surprised to find out that Aranel's realm is called Aura Isle! "Aura" is also a Finnish word. It is the name of a river - "Aurajoki", a cheese, and a farming-implement, the. What's it called. Pulled to break the earth open for fields and stuff.

EDIT:

Plow. The plow.

I personally would like landformations that everyone can pronounce and not have a world dominated by Finnish. kthxbai

ps: and I didn't mean name per se, as in give the places names, I mean write them

Just a hunch, but I think he'd be using Aura based on the English translation which, if dictionary.com is correct, came about through Latin and Greek.

Czanthor, you should just rename your stuff anyways. It makes sense that the country names its areas.

I'd prefer some name changes to Fiorenso - I posted this in that thread too, but I want to cover my bases here. No offenses to Nait's naming. :)

The southeast isles will be referred to as the Saraswati Archipelago (Saraswati is the Hindu goddess of wisdom), the southeast most isle to be called Verusia Island (Verus is Latin for being truthful, I think), and the middle island to be called Cielo Island (Italian for heaven). The mountain on Cielo Island will be called Sacerestus Peak (a fusion of a few Latin synonyms of holy), and this is the root of the native Fiorensian religion (if there is one and whatever it ends up being). The gods are said to have descended from this mountain in times of despair to protect their people. It is also said the holy mountain of Sacerestus Peak has some supernatural connection to Vedriet Peak.

No offense to your naming, Nait, but it would make sense the country names their local landforms. :) I like the map.

Yay Nait!

Well, Ocean 1 can be called the Verial Ocean, I guess.

-N-
08-12-2004, 02:11 AM
Sea 4 / Sea 5 - If one of these seas is known for having a peaceful climate, they can be called "The Still Waters". Sea 5 would be most likely to have such a climate to be called that. The other sea can be called the "Sea of Ursprung", and can have a history around it that the gods of Eizon birthed the land and its people from rare minerals found deep within its waters. Or something like that. Connecting it to Sacerestus Peak would be pretty solid.

Ocean 3 - The Adnexus Ocean. (Latin for "connecting" ocean - haha, connects the sides of the world!)

If my neighboring country men concur, then let those be the names for those waters.

Just a question I realized - I'll post it in the Misc thread. Do we know the shape of the world? If so, is this a Mercator-projected map? If so, then it should be noted that areas near the poles in Mercator-projections are distorted to be far larger than they actually are. (Ever see those maps where Greenland is three times as big as Australia? Yeah, that's what happens.)

The mountain range within my region shall be called the "Ashiti". Within the Ashiti are four peaks:

Tranquil Hill - The lowest peak, though still so several thousand feet above sea level, one can climb to the top without much need of aid as the slopes are not too steep. This is located at the most northern part of the Ashiti Range.

Szare` and Vocuto - The Twin peaks of the Ashiti, named to represent two lovers of ancient lore who are destined to be apart, yet still within sight of one another. Legend has it that the gap between the peaks is closing every year and that sometime soon, they will reunite. They are located at the southern end of the Ashiti mountains.

Rivertop - The highest peak, given that name because it appears to reach so high into the air that it almost disappears into the sky, as an object would disappear into a river if dipped into it. Located right in the center of the Ashiti.

I believe there are also a few forests in my region, so I'll get to naming that soon. I promise, that once my art programs are functioning, maps will be provided.

Take care all.

Awright. Since Proto INSISTS.....

The mountain just East of Aurum (Which is now on the west coast of Region 9) is now known as Thundergod's Peak.

The inlet west of Ferris is Leviathan's Cove. Occasionally, the sea serpent is rumored to be seen there. Is it a rumor, or fact...?

Also, I'd like to know what bodies of water are named. And if we can "add" lakes, and whatnot, as fresh water may be nice.

Could the ringed mountain in the attatchment be named the 'Allein Berg' (Alone Mountain)? It seems rather out of place where it is, and so I think that the name would be quite fitting.

Thanks.
