What are your thoughts on the state of audiovisual desire development? Does the advertisement world ever seem like a strange parallel universe of magic and superstition? Are Saturn commercials comedic genius? Do you feel Coke has captured its market as an American celebration of individuality and sugar even though Dr Pepper got Smokey Robinson? Do we care what Smokey Robinson drinks? Does the advertising world inspire us to make overinclusive suggestions about our concern or lack thereof over Smokey Robinson's choice of cola through its population-cross-sectioning-and-large-scale-target-demographics sort of approach?

I have to admit, that even I myself contribute to a part of society. Beit whether or not that I choose to watch tv commercials or not, I'm making a decision on whether I like something, or choose to tolerate it. Dell pc's may seem like they're easy, and I cannot really say so or not, because I have not tested one myself to see. What I can say, is that all that I can accumulate from their products, is from their commercials. If i choose to tolerate them, I will be uninfluenced, and unable to make more decisions on whether I like something or not, rather than just being plain ignorant or curious.

so in conclusion. *tosses computer out window*

I despise commercials, not only because they are a long pause between entertainment, but they are also dumb.

Blanco watches too much TV.

But commercials don't bother me. I typically go do something else while they're on. Like kiss puppies or rescue deer from hunters.

Ouch!

I don't watch enough TV to see commercials. Most comercials I do happen to see are extremely annoying.

Mrmrmrmrmrmrmrmrm. Yargh. Commercials.

The two companies that irritate me the most: Dr. Pepper and Coca Cola.

Dr. Pepper's "Be You" commercials. Okay, these are generally old washed-up or otherwise unknown artists who are only doing these commercials because they can't get money otherwise, telling you to be you.

Coca Cola's doing those ads that I guess are supposed to look into the life of average, everyday kids. And the commercials are stupid and have nothing to do with coke. "Yeah, so me and my buddies were at the skate park, pulling off some mad tricks. All of a sudden, some crips came up to sell their weed. I got pissed and shot one of them...but he died. We had to make a mad dash across town, and we stole a car. Now we're living in Mexico but we're working on making a new skate park. DRINK COCA COLA." NNNYEAAAAAAAAAARGH. I hate commercials.

I analyzed a Wendy's magazine ad last quarter for my English class. I found out that people care because they'll never buy anything on their own. They have to be told to buy products.

Viewing television adverts and listening to radio adverts makes me realise how out of touch most companies are with the customers who buy their products. The majority of pathetic adverts these days won't interest anyone due to their ridiculous nature and terrible dialogue.

You mean how like Britney was dancing for Pepsi once? -_-;;

Alot of the commercials dont really make me want to buy them..i mean yea britney is dancing(My eyes!! :eek: ) and all but...theres no reason to me that i would want to go out and get a pepsi...

And you know toy commercials? They always make it look real cool and all but you know..once you get it, its not as cool as you would think it would be..and i know it tricks some kids..i been tricked too when i was little, now i read into every little thing before i buy it.

Its as stupid as pop-up adds...too bad theres no pop up stoppers for those.. :mad:

If it wasn't for advertising, nut jobs like me would never get off my arse to go buy that thing I was subliminally ordered to just go and buy, thank you very much.

I are agree with this. My favourites are all the car adverts in Australia. Almost all of em show the car blazing round and stuff around it gettin wasted.
Message - Car may generate dangerous amounts of heat?

And every advert about ice-cream now usually involve somebody eating the ice-cream, then having an orgasm. I mean, WTF? Sme goes for fast-food ads. If i ever wear that expression while chowin down, shoot me in the head. Twice

Ugh don't even mention those wierd abstract perfume ads.

Every second popup i get is Viagra/Penis-related, or people telling me urgent things about owning property in France. Okay, if i were to listen to every one of those, i would have countless condo's in france to house my enormous penis.

~~~ 'IF I BUY THE FRICKEN VIAGRA WILL YOU GUYS GIVE IT A REST?' -FreaQ
Nike adverts have stopped advertising Nike so much as Camus or Sartre.
The commerical universe is a curious one. Shampoo causes sexual arousal; chocolate liquor drinks are akin to powerful pheromones; cigarettes or shoes bring you popularity. And sometimes, social interactions begin to mimic these curiosities: certain shoe brands become status symbols within some subcultures; people have start having inexplicable orgasms in the shower.
This strangely sounds like my Popular Culture Seminar ...
Advertisements are meant to offer you something you think you are lacking so it plays on various aspects - Popularity and sex most often since that is what grabs most people's attention. The amount of sexuality in a TV commercial now is pretty close to pornographic, they're pushing the boundries of what is considered tasteful to down right o.O; But I've noticed lately that they're trying to use more humour in the commercials but sadly, most commercials are trying to be funny or turn you on and then later you think about the commercial and realize they never really explain what the product was about.
ie: A woman backs up her car into another car while a guy walks buy, she comes out of the car all *OMFG I R TEH SUXS* and he's all like *that's cool cause I'm cool* so she gives him her information and is all *_* cause he let her off. But it turns out it's not his car, he's parked ina much crappier looking car like right next to the uber hawt car she rammed into.
Theory: This is either about car insurance or some real lame car commercial
Conclusion: It's actually for a candy company. Cause the guy is being 'sweet'
Me: wtf? -.-'
It's like they're not even trying to make sense anymore, as long as people remeber the product ... but in this case, I remember the commercial, but I can't remember the product because there's nothing that connected the product to the visuals being offered. Lame but that's the nature of advertising, what ever catches your attention to their product is a job well done... even if the customer can't recall the product but that's not important :P
