I've been some time fascinated with the possibilities that architecture can give us when we are creating new worlds, but I don't seem any good at it. If someone else is, plz contact me and help me stuff. Anyhow, I've been playing around with Japanese castles and Western castles, and here's a gate-tower which is kind of a hybrid of the two styles.

Whaddya think?

EDIT:

Ach, what is WRONG with the PNG conversion?

...

I had the transparency on pure black xD

If i can get some graph paper, I'll gladly take on this challenge.
just, what time period/region you looking for in building structure/design

That's the point, I don't want to copy from our world. I want to make up NEW stuff. Stuff that could have been concievably done - but wasn't. The fantasy Alternative-History, What If? option. :D

But I'd like something like Gothic mixed with Arabic influenza plz.

I'll see what I can put together, but don't expect anything right away.
you like that sorta, tropical clay roofing concept?

I think that in many ways, roofs define the way a building is. The gate above has the curve of the earth-stone-walls japanese castle walls, and also the concept of layers of roofs. But the roofs are rather straighter, not curved inside, and the overal concept is more like a western fortress gate, what with the wall that stands on the ground, and doesn't hug it like later anti-cannonball walls and japanese walls, some small details. And the haul-bridge, of course. *_*

This will be the basis of the Zhem-Aura cooperation pact, mark my words.

Aranel, are you going to use this architecture of your yourself, in Aura, or will you let me use it? After all, if our two nations are so close to eachother, in the same region, even, our architectures should have quite an impact on eachother.

The png transparency problem might not actually be your fault, but IE being lame and not implementing displaying it correctly :p

Nah, it was me. I was using PSP's PNG exporter, and there the transparency settings are on another page. :coo:

How did I miss this thread? Do you want a realistic building that conforms to structural stress patterns or just a mystical, "magical" building? Metareason Academy's School of Development in the University of Natural Sciences has an area of specialization in the Department of Mechanics that deals with structural mechanics, which deals with architecture and civil engineering. Then there's also the Department of Physical Control within the School of Magic, which was formed to teach aspiring mages control over the physical elements but can also be put to work to exert physics-defying physical control over buildings.

Wait, does magic even exist?

I agree. The architectures should very strongly reflect eachothers, with some slight differences.
May I be allowed to use it on my Aura Islands?
