arghh help with chrono trigger rom please anybody!

hey im playing chrono trigger rom on zsnes and im at 'beyond the ruins 2300AD and im in arris dome having caught the mouse statue (which is very lifelike for a statue?!) and its told me what to do at the console in the previous room hold L and R while pressing A (or the equivelant on my keyboard) but nothing is happening any ideas?
please help/

I also encountered this problem!

Change your Controls for a moment, you have to use the SAME BUTTON for L & R!

Use for example "o" for L and R and it'll work! this should work ;)
after you opened the path, you can change back to normal if you wish
