What if you tried to link to something else, but instead linked to a risky pick because it had a similar file name and before they could change it they were banned cause the mods are so quick and dedicated.

I think we ban at least one member every month right now, and probably about one member a week to one of the restricted groups.

I'd say at least 100 members in all would have been permanently banned, although it's probably a lot more. I think I've permanently banned about 20-40, so yeah. Sometimes they come in batches of up to 15 or so members in one blow.

People get banned for all sorts of things, including spamming, porn-posting, flaming, trolling, ignoring staff warnings etc.

EDIT: War Angel: See the thread in the arts forum. There is a toleration of sorts for things that are obviously artistic, such as a Roman statue, but I guess it's all about the context in which you post it. We've yet to come across anything that wasn't obviously out of grounds, or at least if we have I've forgotten about it, and if we do I'm sure a thread will be made about it and we'll decide based on what we think. If you're ever unsure about whether or not you should post something, you should ask an admin or CK and they'll tell you if it's okay or not.

I don't think this place suspends enough people. Maybe they might shape up if they learned how horrible their lives would be without this place. They would be like rotting corpses clinging to life as the flesh is ripped off their bones by maggots and bugs. I disagree with Del - if Jacques came back here after attacking EoFF with maliscious (sp?) scripts, I'd ban him again in a second. Same with most porn-posters.

But yeah, most people get more than one chance. We're actually a lot more lenient than we would be if we followed the "First warning is in-thread, second warning is in a PM, third is a ban" thing that we say we use. A lot more of the prominent people here would have been banned quite some time ago if that were the case. You have no idea how many warnings people such as HOORJ and Sugpo got. =P That was insane.

Anyway, I like the punishment system here. Major crimes get an instant ban, as they should, but those who take minor liberties are fairly warned, and get a chance to clean up their act. There are a couple of people who were unlucky to get banned, but the staff do a good job overall.

They use something called IP banning or on some boards Spyware Banning which either bans anyone from a certain IP from signing up or the Spyware one installs a mini program on the hard drive to block them from being signing up and sends their IP to the board so it keeps its records upto date, not may do the Spyware ban anymore :D

Actually, I can see how it <i>was</i> an accident. It had the Google Image Search bar still at the top showing the thumbnail of the pic he thought he was posting a link to. He could have just been looking at the Google image search page, found the picture, and right-clicked it to find the URL, not realizing that the URL Google gives on the image search is one to the original page of the image, in this case being a page with a photoset including the non-nude picture he found, but also including a bunch of nekked ones.

But yeah. Nothing we can do about it now.

And I think that the banning listing would be cool. Maybe put a link to it in the FAQ as an example of what to and what not to do.

Yes, some things don't deserve second chances.

The only way to get banned without warning is to post porn, hack the board, or go on some major cursing/flaming spree. So there is no reason to 'fear' getting banned here. Anything else will get you a warning, and we'll tell you exactly what you did wrong so you know not to do it again.

Then who's to stop people who post porn on purpose from saying it was an accident? We have to draw the line somewhere. Just be careful when you link to an image, that's all. If you feel it might be not allowed, send it to one of us and we'll tell you if it is ok. Also see the thread Abom mentioned in Feedback for more on this issue.

If you want to know why a mamber was banned, feel free to pm a staff member. There will always be a reason, and for the most part we have no reason not to tell it to you. We don't allow threads and posts about it because that creates rumors, which often distorts the truth.

Don't be afraid to approach the moderators if you have any questions about anything. We're here to help, except for Shlup, who is just here to eat you.

A year or two ago, there were a bunch of people creating second accounts for a joke (repo_man being a prime example), and from what I can remember, a couple of these included staff members. I don't recall a ban being imposed on second accounts until just recently, and - correct me if I'm wrong - but "Insta-Bans" for second accounts are only enforced if the member who has created the second account has done so in response to their first account being banned.

There are some staff second-accounts, like Loony BoB's good friend Award Guy, who uses a second account. Then there's the EoFF Sniper, who never posts anymore. Second accounts that actually have a purpose other than misleading EoFFers into thinking there's someone new. Second accounts usually get banned; but, depending on the circumstances, the original account might not get banned. Depends on what the second one was being used for.

No banning should be 100% permanent unless it's for something major like continuous posting of porn of threatening to kill someone. At another forum I'm a staff member of we had a member who posted a link to a video, the last four seconds of which were (according to the admin who dealt with him) hard core homosexual porn. He got a week long ban. If he posts something like that again, he'll likely get perma-banned, yeah.

Although there are times where someone makes account after account after account to just spam. Seen a few of them. I think on one of them the site owner actually wrote to the public facility where the guy was accessing the account and got them to block the site.

It does all depend on what the preson's being banned for I guess, but year-long bans aren't really the way to go. A few weeks maybe, once or twice, before the really long bans or perma-ban.

What you do works for your board, what we do works for our board. I've adminned/staffed at dozens of boards and I can tell you now that each one of them has a different set of rules and each set of rules works for them. This site is large and successful, as you can probably see, and has been so for a long time - our rules obviously work well. If you do something like post porn accidentally, that's your problem, not ours. You should have checked what you were posting. Simple as that, really. But as I said, each site needs their own rules. I know some forums that are fairly large and don't ban people at all unless they've done something really bad. They don't even really warn them - they just make fun of them and stuff. It works well for them, but if we did that here, we'd probably have a lot of members screaming at us about how abusive and egotistical and whatnot we are. Well, we get that anyway, but it'd be a lot worse. You'll find that with a board of this size that has it's forum staffers in the same social ring / circle of friends as the rest of the members, you can't put a foot wrong or be even slightly inconsistent without all your friends (and other members) giving you a good tell-off for it. If we had one-week bans and one-month bans as well as permabans, then everyone would analyse every ban we make, and we'd have a lot of people demanding that we unban certain people sooner rather than later and saying "This person got this long a ban, while this person only got this long a ban, this is not right, we hate you" and stuff. Permanent bans also mean people don't get away with doing something because "I felt like it, and hey, I'm only going to get banned for a month anyway."

So yeah, there are so many reasons why we don't offer short-term bans.

Now, as for second accounts: Unauthorised second accounts do always get banned. I'm pretty sure one of the admins went and banned all the unauthorised ones such as repo man and Other quite some time ago, so yeah. The difference between a normal member making a second account and a banned member making a second account is once the second account is banned by us, one of them doesn't have a first account to go back to.
