View Full Version : Who else hate Yuna
I was wondering who else don't like Yuna. I noticed that lots of people like her and I thought that
maybe it's somthing wrong with me cause I deeply hate her. It's annoying me the way she's
talking: "Oh...I will...defeat...Sin...oh...I must...defeat...Sin", "Be strong",
"I'm so sad... you know?". Sides she's ugly and have awful shoes. She also hasn't
a personality and she was easy. What do you thinking? Does anyone agree with me?

I think the reason they made her speak so haltingly could be due to needing to lip-synch the translation. I thought Yuna was wonderful. She was a very strong person, despite the fact that everyday she was heading off to her death. To sacrifice her life, so that the rest of the world could be happy.
Just because she didnt have a personality you liked, doesnt mean she didnt have one. She was a quiet and shy person, but very strong. She always put others before herself, again, to the point I mentioned in my spoiler.
Ugly? Not really, but whatever you say. I dont think that's a good reason to dislike someone, same with the ugly shoes.
Easy? How so? She kissed the man she loved. I think only twice. Wow, what a skank.

Everybody has their likes and dislikes for people. As for me, I have no opinion until I actually know something about them, and usually, I find I like them, so long as they're not "bullies" (make fun of or push people for malicious reasons). If she's the silent, shy type, why the flak should you care?
To answer your question, no, I didn't hate Yuna.
Ekhm, well I know lots of people like her so I asked who don't. I don't know why but somhow
it reject me from her (I hope I heven't done misteke in this sentence). It's not wrong that
she is shy and quiet but she is so 'oh no, it is my fault, I have to protect the world...'
And she WAS easy. She almost didn't know Tidus. She is a little girl (just 17) and
she act like an adult. It's not fit to her. Sides she haven't done anything important to save
the world. She just summoned aeons. It could also been Dona or Isaaru. Maybe I'm just jealus
about Tidus (he is so cute) but I want to know is anyone agree with me or maybe I am the
only one who dislike her so much.

Let's take into account that Spira didn't have any modern medical technology like we do in the real world. :p And Sin went around killing everyone and destroying everything. The life expectancy for Spirans may have been very low and 17 might have been the equivalent of an adult. Besides, aged 17, raging hormones, same with Tidus. It was bound to happen. And it happened in the cutest way possible. I thought she was a pleasant character, I don't think I would have been too happy marching off to die but Yuna did it with a smile and in my opinion, that's very admirable.
I thought her boots were cool.
Geez you all are so creepy here. Stop attacking me. If you like her stop posting here. I know many many people like her, you don't have to tell me. Sorry if I offense you. But I still hate her whathever you say. Hit me. I wanted to do a little propaganda against Yuna but I guess I lost.
Too bad. So if anyone want to destroy Yuna I' m always on.

No one's attacking you. We're having a discussion, that's what message boards are for. We're as free to post why we like Yuna as you are as to why you don't.
Anyway, I still don't see why she's easy. She knew Tidus for quite a long time (I'm guessing that by the time they'd got to the Macalenia woods, it had been weeks, or maybe even a month or two, in game time) and like I said, she only kissed him. They were in love with eachother, that's what people in love do. If she was easy, she would have started making out with him from day one and had sex on the first night and all that crap.
I do have a little tip though; don't be so easily offended. It's just a character. You seem to be blowing things out of proportion.

Lain, everyone is welcome to post their opinions here, you included. The fact that most people do not agree with you, does not mean that they are attacking you. I actually found everyone to be quite respectful, and their opionions well thought out. Please relax a tad; I wouldn't want anyone to start flaming in this thread.

Yuna was pretty cool for whatever reasons TheAbominatrix said.

I agree with TheAbominatrix, completely.
After losing her father in the fight against Sin - a sacrifice that brought Spira merely a few years of peace - Yuna decided to commit to becoming a Summoner, to making the same pilgrimage and the same sacrifice. That takes enormous strength. She trains and learns and studies, gaining the power to save the world by ending her own life at the age of 17, when most people have barely begun to live. Even on her journey, she remains upbeat, trying to bring happiness wherever she can. Even when she's surrounded by death and suffering, like in Kilika and after Operation Mi'ihen, she tirelessly gives her all to ease suffering. And the entire time, she knows that every step she takes is taking her toward her death, a death that'll keep others safe for a short time, and earn her a statue in a few temples.
In short, there are few characters in the game as brave and selfless as her.
Personally, I liked the mixture of sadness and determination, the bittersweet emotions she carried because of her chosen path. Only once is she seen to cry during the game, and those tears come because she can't stay with the man she's falling for: she's upset because her own goal will deprive someone else of his dreams and happiness. Instead of being miserable about her own doom, she tries to seize the moment and enjoy her pilgrimage as much as possible. Even when new hope appears, and it seems that her sacrifice is no longer needed, she remains on the front lines, battling to free Spira once and for all.
As for her outfit, I consider Yuna the best-dressed female in any FF game, with that unique blend of traditional Japanese and contemporary styles that she wears in FFX.
I may be almost alone in this, but I adored Hedy Burgess' voice acting, too. Yuna's mix of vulnerability and conviction shone through really well, the melancholy aspects of her persona as well as her brighter side. Even if she had to speak at an odd tempo because of lip-synch issues.
Here's a suggestion, if you hated her in X, then play X-2, her personality is much more free-spirited and better, altough she isn't exactly 100% mature, she still has some going in her.

I agree with everything BigD said (except for the best dressed thing, not badly dressed at all, just not the best) :D
And I remember disliking her voice when I played FFX. But when I played FFX-2 and saw how her voice changed along with her character, and then juxtaposed the two voices in my mind in correlation with the character, I now rather enjoy her voice in FFX, along with FFX-2. Honestly I can't really remember why I didn't like it in the first place.

I agree with everything that Abominatrix, Big D, and Pine said about Yuna; and yes, Lain, no one is attacking you. Calm down. You have a right to your opinion, but I, for example, strongly disagree with you about Yuna (my views on Yuna are like the others' in this post) :greenie:, but remember, it's not an attack.
offcourse yuna acts like an adult.her whole life she has been training for the final summoningen, or send the dead. ehm... those task kinda make you mature right?
I like her in theory, she's brave and very selfless, but her voice acting and her cheesiness around Tidus kinda bugged me. She was very cool with the "Believe me" thing when she jumped off Bevelle, but at other times like the "The wind... it's nice." "Mmmm" "Ah-ha-ha!" scene, she was annoying.
And I thought she was very pretty. Though those shoes were ugly. xD

I like Yuna. Sure shes a little wussy in FFX but hey, shes trying to save Spira! Give her a break!
And if you don't like her in FFX cause shes "Ohh.. umm... sin... ah..."
Get FFX-2... LOL At the end when your about to fight Vagnagun Nooj gives the gullwings an idea and Yunas like "I think it sucks!"
...gee, way to be blunt!
I like Yuna for all the reasons previously stated. Shes great! :D

I didn't like Yuna. The way she is talking, especialy her battle comments realy anoyed me. And she is quite weak too, if it wouldn't be for the Aeons. By the way, did anyone else noticed that her eyes are of different colors? :D

Yeah I did, But I don't care, I think she looks cool like that, 1 blue eye 1 green eye, Sorry Lain but Yuna was like 1 of my favorites....sorry... She also 1 of my best people in the game.
I'm not trying to attack you or anything, I just love everything about Yuna.
Yeah if you hate Yuna in FFX just get FFX-2, Yuna in FFX-2 is nothing like the Yuna in FFX

I noticed that. I think it is because she is half Al Bhed and green eyes seems to be a very popular gene with Al Bheds.
Yuna I think can be very naive. But you have to give props to someone in her shoes. It can't be easy going through what she did. In FFX-2, she changed a lot. She was much more mature and just free spirited, like someone said.

I think you're taking it a little far. Yes, Yuna may be annoying to you, but there's really nothing to be done, lol. *shrug* I dunno why her shoes are so important in "hating" her, but her personality resembled that of a possibly reserved, polite character with a lot of determination and her own way of saying it. I realize that I like Yuna (my name, lol) and think she's cool so my opinion may be biast, but still....hate? It's just a game character.

And theres nothing bad about Yuna loveing Tidus, Is there?
I'm going with Luner Yuna, Cuz Yuna is just a 17 yo polite girl.

Yuna wasn't my favorite character in the game, but I definitely don't hate her. For all reasons already posted. I also wasn't a big fan of her speaking, but as someone mentioned, it was more than likely due to trying to match the words to her lips. I'm sure if she was real, and you met her in real life, she wouldn't talk like that. ;)
Also, I thought the FMV of Yuna performing the Sending was absolutely beautiful.
Nothing really to do with liking/disliking her, but just thought I'd mention how much I loved that scene.
I don't mean to offend anyone with this, just thinking: why is it so that all of you who love Yuna so much are saying to Lain that "you have your opinions BUT Yuna's so cool why don't you give her a chance?" (maybe not exactly that but you get the point) when there's no chance she'll change her mind, moreover she's not trying to change your minds about loving Yuna? Oh well... you must have your reasons.
I personally didn't like Yuna's appearance in FFX, however it was a little better in FFX-2. To my mind, she's not even in the top 10 of female FF characters. Why? Because to me, she just looks a little too immature, even with all you've said about losing her father and all that stuff. I hated the voice - and not only for that slow way of speech (which I don't think was all due to lip sync, 'cause none of the other characters had anything like that going on, did they?), but also because I didn't like the tone of the actress' voice (and remember folks, that's just my opinion!)
I hated her dress - still do. In that she looks like she's a bit plump and has a too big backside.. you know, and I didn't like those gummi-boots either. But that's not a reason to dislike her, now is it :P
But I do dislike her, even if it is because of reasons I don't know myself. So you have got one soulmate here ;) and at one Finnish forum where I go to, many people dislike Yuna (whereas the whole game, but who cares xD), too. So you're not alone, Lain :o!

When I played the english final fantasy X I disliked Yuna as well, the translated dialogue wasn't as deep as the Japanese one...If you liked the english version: the japanese version is even better, here you even see Yuna's 'real' personality shining through...because she surpresses even that because she wants to be as perfect as she can so that she might give other people confidence and courage, act like a pillar of strength for Spira.
Don't go jumping on me because I said 'real' personality...the aspect of Yuna you see through the game is 100% Yuna, but she hides her emotions as she believes she should for the sake of the task she has taken upon herself. So it's only 'part' of Yuna we see, for those who have seen the japanese version the 'change' in her character in ffx2 probably wasn't as much of a surprise
I guess they had to choose wether to translate as well as they could, or for great L.S...and they took the latter (which I can understand, and they did a great job at that)
Since I couldn't play the Japanese version of FFX2, I replayed the english version again...Though much more time had passed...And I must say, I'm starting to warm up to the 'english' Yuna, granted she seems a bit meek and talks a bit funny at times, but she's still the 'real' Yuna...So, yes I can now say I like the 'english' Yuna as well...a lot even
(And as much as I disliked Hedy Burgess' va in FFx, I think she has much improved! In FFx2 she even does a great job...Well except for the singing scenes =P)
That being said, I still prefer the 'japanese' Yuna ^^

When one likes something, it's very hard for one to find something wrong with it, or to understand why someone else doesn't like it. And in trying to convey your opinions about it, one usually does it in a persuasive manner. For example, I like cheesecake, I thinks it's wonderful. There are people in the world who don't like cheesecake. I don't understand why. If I were to see one of these people and see them taste cheesecake, and when they tasted it they only took a little nibble, I would attest that they didn't taste enough of the cheesecake to get an accurate assessment of how the cheesecake actually tasted and suggest that they take a whole bite before making this judgement. It's a similar process.
Well I've eaten cheesecake and its gross...
However, I actually ATE it, not looked at it, sniffed it a bit and then called it gross.

That's not totally true, SRL.
Example: I love Final Fantasy. It is my all time favorite VG series out there. If I had to choose between FFVI and the 2 DMCs, KH, Xenosaga and Xenogears, I would end up choosing FFVI. However, if someone didn't like FFs, then I'd totally understand. I know that some people would find it tedious and repetitious and I can understand that. My neighbor abhors Final Fantasys, but I understand why because he likes action oriented games.

Now that's something I can relate to. Understanding and accepting that someone might feel otherwise about something you really love, is really a great asset to anyone. Pursuing anyone with attacking arguments doesn't help anyone :/

Wow, I obviously left too much to implication in my last post. I guess I need to be more specific or something. Ok. What I was trying to say is that some of the things Lain was saying for reasons she hated Yuna were like taking a nibble of cheesecake instead of a whole bite. Lain said she didn't like Yuna's outfit and shoes, she didn't like Yuna's voice acting, she thought Yuna was easy. A lot of people saw those as nibbles. I think some of the people who posted thought that Lain's hate for Yuna was misconstrued and ill thought, and they were trying to broaden Lain's thoughts on the subject so that she could make a well-rounded judgement here instead of a partial judgement based on her appearance, and how she sounded. If she still hated Yuna after the fact, then there you go. I don't think it's that Lain hates Yuna, I think it's the reason why Lain hates Yuna that put people in defensive position.
Understanding and accepting that someone might feel otherwise about something you really love, is really a great asset to anyone.
To understand and accept that people feel differently than you about a subject is one thing, to understand and accept why is another. I was referring to the "why" not the "that."

OK, after reading all this crap on how much Yuna sucks, lets go over the main topics that people have complained about shall we?
Voice: Hey, at least they are actually talking in this game, unlike the FF's before. There were too many 'okay's and 'you knows', but overall I though the voice-over was a job well done. If you disagree, let's see you try it :)
Appearance: Her outfit fit her attitude and the role that her character was supposed to play. At least she didn't have body parts falling out all over the place (until X-2 when Square became desperate).
Fighting Abilities: What Del Murder said. Try finishing the final battle w/o those aeons. Good friggin luck.

Aww.... Yunie....
well... i think i have a tendency to overlook the main characters.. cuz i usually felt they weren't that great... i didn't really like Yuna too... but not to the extent of "damn seeing her puts a bad taste in my mouth"
but i feel her outfit's cool!! i kinda wish everyone could walk down the streets in whatever they want to.. right now.. it seems so far away...
the voice over seems a little.. out of place.. but thats just a consequence of having dubbing... a reason why most of my pals prefer anime in their original language (with subtitles of course) but still its a worthy attempt.. (i'm sure it could have been worst.. much worst) so i gotta give some credit ya?
anyway.. overall i'll give english dubbed Yuna a 7/10 overall.. Rikku's still the best for me
oh yes!! i think i remember something about... yuna's eyes following the lights of a PS2 when its on? something about the creators having that in mind before they designed the character :p kinda cute.. cuz i think Lulu's eyes were about they PS2 lights when its off

I dislike Yuna. Not entriely but I don't love her either. The whole personality bothered me. Anyone with a profound maturity that everyone's been mentioning due to her father dieing and giving up her own life blah blah - would not come off as so whimpish and whinney and trying to make everyone else so friggen happy (in my opinion). Of course she gave up her life so why not make other people happy regardless of her own feelings, but for someone so "mature" she seemed more childish doing so. Kids are usually the ones that come to you when you're sad, just randomly if there's one around of course, and offer what little they have and it makes you laugh cause you think it's cutely immature. But they make you feel better somehow anyways. They have that touch. Yuna had it on them. But giving up your life in that aspect is commendful, in her boots I probably would've gave the same sacrifice, but if her persona is what you think as mature...I'd go for the immature lol. Again I'm just stating my opinion, not to make anyone upset. Other than that, the other reason I dislike her is because she's so weak in battle. I almost pissed my pants with laughter when I made her attack. A biatch slap with a wand, lol. Training her was too long for my liking, and the aeons were nice to look at and play with in spare time - but I never used them, except for in bevelle when you had to because she's so weak. But I never recall somonning them for a boss battle. Oh, the other time I used one was in the beginning of the game on Sin's fin. But that's it. Seymor and Jecht were done in with swords and black magic. I thoroughly enjoyed destroying the aeons in the end. Except for Valefor, after all he did for Yuna, that was just sad. Anyways, other than those dislikes I really like her clothes, she was absolutely beautiful in most of the scenes. Looks aren't everything though. Her voice didn't really bother me either, I'm not consentrating on the lip movements when someone is talking. Despite the personality faults I see the story of Yuna and Tidus captured me, and probably wouldnt've worked out so well if Yunas personality in the game was different. But nonetheless I dislike Yuna in my heart. ~Sky~
