I don't know what the event is called, but it has two women posing in the water. While the U.S. team was doing this, at one point they played Liberi Fatali, the intro music in Final Fantasy 8 by Nobuo Uematsu.

EDIT: Btw, I don't know if the song is originally by Uematsu or just a recomposition. In any event, they used the FF8 version.

I'm a bit surprised. Uematsu's work is usually simple, it seldom ever gets the attention of orchestras or even amateur opera directors because the music lacks a lot of the complexities that is required to go into orchestrated music.

So the music selection must have been specifically from the performers themselves and not some olympic music selection committee or whatever.

It's really more about the Olympics than anything. Go Paul Hamm! Go get em tiger!

Are you serious about this? It seems hard to believe. That's cool though. Is there a place i could get a clip of this or something?

Does sound cool, indeed.

Question.... How on earth did this originate in the tiny little Linkshell Corner sub of the FFXI forum? :P

There's an occasional easter-egg in Olympics... one of my favorite complex bands had sections of their longest song played during the pre-thing for the Downhill Ski competition 2 years ago.

Sure it does. He got confused on where to land this topic and put it in some random subforum.

Yeah, sorry about that. I've since regained my senses. That's the last time I buy Kool Aid out of the back of a guy's van.

i thought Uematsu's work was some of the most complex ever made...even some of the stuff he did for the nes ff games.

then again even if he is not complex he is a master of music. complexity does not always mean depth.

That's pretty cool :)

The music that was played during the Squall and Rinoa dancing scene was also used in the princess of Norway's wedding waltz.

It's nice that he gets some attention from other people than Final Fantasy fans... Good for him. :)
