I've just downloaded and seen the opening FMV of FFXI, now I wonder is there any story in FFXI? Is the FMV releated to the game at all? Is there any villain?

The opening FMV really rocked!

Ouch!

There is indeed a story that is unraveled as you complete quests. The first nine quests are specific about the country that you chose as your home. Except for M6, they're different. Once you complete M9, you get the rest of your missions in Jeuno.

I'm not sure about where you get the missions that were added in Rise of the Zilart.

I don't really want to say anything about the plot, but there is a main villian throughout the original missions, but I don't know about after you finish the original missions and get into the new ones in Rise of the Zilart.

When Chains of Promathia comes out, there will probably be new missions dealing with the God of the Twilight, Promathia, as an important character.

Okay, thanx.

Hmmm... maybe I should buy this game after all. It's just that it cost so much money.
But... maybe it's worth it. :greenie:

Oh, and how would you rank the story compared to the other FFs?

Ouch!

Well, it's an online game so the story isn't as important as the other Final Fantasy titles. The others focus on the story, but in FFXI you don't have to even do any of the missions if you don't want to, though it does look bad to other players when you're level 30 and still are only rank one.

So far I like the story. It's quite a bit simpler and more straight forward than the plots of the offline games, but that's to be expected.

Well, as long as the story is better than the one in FFX2. :p

1 more question: Is the Behemoths as big in the game as they are in the FMV? I mean, in the FMV they'r GIGANTIC!!!

Depends if you like playing games on PS2 or PC. Also depends what you like in a game, this is a MMORPG, so it's not like the other FF's and it's very easy to go on a tangent away from the story line.

I will quote someone who did some of the missions when i was asking the difference between Zilaart missions and nation missions:

Hrm, I'll attempt to answer your question.

Nation missions are what will take you to rank 10. I know that some of these, quite possibly all the missions from ranks 7-10, were added long after JP release... maybe sometime around a year ago or so, give or take. I remember reading release notes for a patch around that time that said the new missions were being introduced.

So, from when the game first released, you could get to rank 6 and "complete" the storyline of the main game. While the nation missions rank 7-10 still revolve around the characters and story of the rank 6 mission, they all diverge from each other, and focus back on the nation itself. I haven't done them myself, but from what I gather they seem to focus on the history of the nation...and then also its future. My personal opinion of these are that these provide some great story, but are still distanced somewhat from the rank 6 storyline which is why some people would say that rank 6 is the completion of the "main" game.

Sorry for being so vague at times. Trying to avoid any possible spoilers. The people who have already done these shouldn't have any problem following what I'm refering to.

The Zilart missions, which all came with the RoZ expansion, don't carry any "rank" with them. When you complete one, you'll automatically be given the next one in your quest log. Some missions are as simple as talking with an NPC, others are fairly difficult BCNM battles. The only tangable reward, apart from access to some items, is access to Sky. But don't let that stop you from doing them, they are a *blast*, and tell a story so great that you'll wish you'd done them earlier. Questions I'd had from day one were answered, and the Zilart missions rival entire other Final Fantasy games in scope, story, and pride in completion.

I hope this helps.

And some head overview:

A short outline of the storyline and the various plot involvements.
Poeple dont realize it but many quests and NPc's are part of the overall storylines.

Bastok : Sandoria :Windurst

During the M1-M12 of these 3 nations stories you are basically a nobody agent of your nation trying to rise up the ranks.

They involve little more than fetch this or do that.
They dont tie to heavily yet.

During M5-1 after you do the magicite Which is basically the beginning of the Main storyline Pre expansion. You have risen enough in your nation to tackle a great challenge. Your task to defeat the lich is your last test of worthiness befoe you fight the Shadowlord.

M5-2 The Shadowlord Battle
After Volker defeated the shadowlord during the War, Its spirit of evil fled to parts unknown, During the 3 Nations expedition you witness the betrayal of mistrust of each nation. Then you witness the beginnings of Raogrimms slip into the Shadow after Cornelias death.

Your nation sends you to Castle zvhal to investigate the "supposed " re appearance of the Shadowlord.

This is where the story Splits.

Dynamis: Another Being becomes the Shadowlord and Raogrimms spirit requires the assistance of the members of the original members of the 3 nation expedition.
Although Dynamis isnt a mission it is the continuing story of Raogrimms fate.

Bastok: Deals with the racial divide between galka and Hume and the future of the next Talekeeper. Cornelia( Karsts) daughter and zeid favor HEAVILY in these stories. You also learn of Volkers family legacy. Cornelias wish for her people, The destiny of the new talekeeper and the Antican invasion into the Altepa region.

Windurst: These Missions are continuations of the Main story abotu Windursts past and the use of forbidden Magic and the fate of Ajido Marujido. fenrir, The Sumoner AF stories all favor heavily in these tales. Windurts past is shrouded in secrecy and the lil tarus wish to keep it that way. In order to keep windurst from having the fate that befell it before. they go to great lengths to keep things hush even arresting you. Semih the mithra is the head guard of the Star sybil and plays heavily also.
But ajido marujido is the star.

Sandoria: Deals with the betrayal and jealousy on the part of the kingdoms rulers and priestly hierarchy.
I dont remember fine details but it basically is Trions ascent.

Ziraat: These missions deal with the last survivors of the first two races. The kuluu and the ziraat. The Kuluu and the Dawn maidens(agents of Altana) defeated the ziraat , but at great cost to Vana'Diel and themselves.
The ziraat missions take you from betrayal to the suposed acendancy of one who wants to become a god , to one who just wants to live among them. The plot twist here is nice. When people first realize who the ziraat are some are surprised others are in for a deeper shock.

The ziraat missions also foretell the coming of the apocalypse to vana'Diel. and the heroes who must Stop it from coming to pass.
It also has long lasting affects as the gateway to the gods become open to the people who it was never supposed to be open to. Namely the five races. I did nearly all the ziraat missions over the course of 9 hours one day and I must say its my favorite next to windursts.

various Npc quests: Constantly speak of teh fallen heroes /Villains of the wars. the coming dooms and the fate of vana'diel.

So CoP is basically an extension of RoZ o.o
