Zidane is the worst thief in the history of any game

My Zidane is the worst thief ever. Is there anyway to improve his stealing percentage or something? I already have his Bandit ability equipped. Does mug affect the stealing percentage at all?

too bad um zidane can't equip the robe of lords. I stole one from quale and I'm pretty sure he can't. How do you raise luck. I know how you use equipment for general stat bonuses, but what equip raises luck.

I always equip the Bandit and Master Thief ability on Zidane. You can learn the Bandit ability from a Mythril Dagger or a N-Kai Armlet and the Master Thief from Thief Gloves (that you have to win from the Auction House in Treno).

I think the Thief Gloves raise Zidane's luck, but I could be mistaken.

It doesn't seem to help. I'm trying to steal the pumice piece from ozma and I can get the other stuff, but like I've tried and tried and it went for like 40 turns and still nothing. Then I died. :mad2:

Funny, my zidanes theif skills were awesome. maybe it was just in comparison to kids pilfer move in chrono cross, which i was also playing at the time, coz SHE was a crap theif, and you could only use it once. i still love CC and FFIX. FFIX is my fave final fantasy

I believe increasing his speed boosts his chances slightly, so maybe equip some items that do that.

Look in the FFIX handbook (not the strategy guide, the handbook that comes with the game) and look at the description of all the character stat attributes. If you look next to Spirit, it will say something like:

Spirit affects the character's attack and defense. Higher values enhance your ability to Steal, Counter, and deal critical damage. Also, the character's Spirit determines how long status effects remain and how quickly the Trance Gauge fills.

So, find and equip as much Spirit boosting stuff as you can for Zidane. Bandit is good. Master Thief is also good, but not necessary as you can only get it in that later stages of the game. Mug doesn't increase your chance to steal, it just hits as you steal.

im not too fussy about stealing so it doesn't seem to bother me but my brother goes obsessive compulsive over it and he spends FOREVER getting NOTHING. but ill tell him about the spirit thing, very good discover dude. thanks

Make sure you've received the blessings from all the friendly creatures so that you can perform physically moves (I think Steal also counts as a physical move) against Ozma. Other than that, just keep trying.

The boss right after you get Eiko. His name had something with 'gigas' in it. Hellgigas, I think. Anyway, he had a fairy flute that I wanted.

Oh yeah, Hilgigars. There are a few enemies in the game that have items that have a 1/256 chance to steal. This is one of the only two things with a 1/256 chance that I would suggest to steal, because you can't get this weapon again until toward the end of disc 3. What you want to do it equip Zidane with as much stuff as possible the increases his Sprit, even if other things go down, and also Bandit. Then, even if his Spirit is high, it's still going to take a while, but not as long if his spirit is low. In my experience, I was trying to steal the Fairy Flute, and I tried for at least an hour, if not longer, with no success. Then I was just looking in the handbook for something and I saw the Spirit thing, and by only increasing his Spirit by two points I stole the Fairy Flute in thirty mintues.

Nah, I can't be arsed to wait that long. I heard you could buy it in Oeilvert or whatever it's called, so I'll just wait a bit. Besides, I don't use Eiko that much anyway. But thanks for the advice. 1/256!! I hate being stubborn. I sat there for an hour, and the only reason I gave up was because I got company.

yeah I actually stole that from that guy after about 40 turns so I was pretty lucky. I couldn't steal from the book so, yeah... I tried to steal from ozma, but he killed me
I was doin okay, I dished out about 40, 000 damaga, but I coulden't get the pumice. I was pretty angry. I'm gonna try again on disc 4 after I get all the best weapons.

Pumice piece is fantastic as i remember it absorbing holy and has good stats.

I decided not to steal cause I can't ever keep the items. I got massacred nearly everytime. He is soooo obnoxious. He did curaga on himself 5 times after I took out nearly 40 thousand of his hp. I hate this guy!
