Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles

Story: A poisonous fog called Miasma has covered the entire earth, the forests, the rivers and all the rest. Each village has an ancient crystal that protects it from the deadly fume.
At the end of every year each village sends out a Crystal Caravan to collect the precious “Myrrh” to regenerate the crystal malice, the crystal needs freshly tapped drops from each Myrrh tree to be able to survive. So at the end of each year the roads are crowded with Caravans seeking for Myrrh, the tale is being told and everything you’ve done in the passing year will be written down in your personal diary which is read to you at the Festival of Celebration every year.
So pack up all your care and woe...and join the Crystal Caravan.

Graphics: Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles is a great example of what the Game Cube can accomplish, graphically that is. The game is just so good looking, everything from the stunning character design to the amazingly drawn landscapes and stunning boss design.
Everything is like on big oil painting, the colors are not too dark nor too light, the lightening is just perfect. The different enemies are also amazingly good looking, they’re fantastically rendered and the motion videos (although they’re few) are up to pair with the rest of the game.
Overall; the graphics in Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles easily outshines FFX and FFX-2 on the Playstation 2 consol.

Sound/ Music: Each and every Final Fantasy has had an amazing soundtrack. Remember the stunning “Aeris’ Theme” from Final Fantasy VII? Or what about the magical “Eyes on Me” from Final Fantasy VIII? Like I said, each and every Final Fantasy has been driven by legendary soundtracks. Nobuo Uematsu the original Final Fantasy composer did NOT compose Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles’ soundtrack…however that doesn’t mean that it’s bad either.
The soundtrack is mainly influence by Irish folk music and Celtic traditional tunes, it does have a couple of memorable tunes like: “The World Map Theme” and “Moschet’s Mansion” and a couple more. Although I whish that the next Final Fantasy soundtrack on the Game Cube will be composed by the legendary Nobuo.

Game Play: The game play in Final Fantasy is slightly different from any other Final Fantasy before it. The game is mainly targeted at the multi-player market which means that you can play with up to four of your friends with the Gameboy Advanche (although it can get quite expensive.)
If you don’t have any friends or a Gameboy Advanche you can play by yourself, by choosing the single mode. The single mode can be quite hard, you’ll have to carry the Crystal Chalice yourself (or let your companion Mog carry it for you). Before being able to upgrade your weapon you have to collect certain items to do so (it’s kinda like Final Fantasy VIII) so that means that after you’ve completed all of the dungeons and right before you’re going into the last, you have to revisit all of them solely for collection items to your weapon upgrades.

Overall: Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles is a fun game, but can get quite frustrating and a bit tedious if you’re playing by yourself. Don’t miss out on this one, you won’t regret it.
