Is it worth updating? Debate!

No.

Any reasoning, Yams?

No, not now anyway :p The way of businesses that know what they're doing - don't jump onto the latest service packs as soon as they come out, let other people do that and laugh at their miseries and problems until the bugs get ironed out and you know it's acceptably stable and safe enough to use yourself, assuming it ever reaches that stage :D

The bugs, the extra load times, the worthless extra features that bloat the system. No thank you. It's bad enough running XP out of the box.

my machine prompted me to install SP 2 yesterday. I said "no" and it gave me this forlorn "you don't love me anymore?" error message.

I installed a beta a while ago. There's a lot of annoyances, but if you know how to turn them off, they're not too bad.

Did it and it mucked up my anti-virus, also it has a massive virus hole in it that allows images on webpages to be images.

I didn't download it because I was told it made my life sloooow. I'm already on dial up, on a mediocre laptop. I don't need my life to be any slower than it already is.

I had SP 2 on my system for awhile and I never had problems at all, but Bleys said I still have a chance to uninstall it so I did so.

I hope there's something wrong with that sentence and it's not just me losing intelligence.

I don't use WindowsXP but still feel the need to vote in this poll.

As I've heard from friends who do, it can cause some problems if you've already configured WXP to you're liking (for example, disabling pretty much everything but Explorer and Systray).

Much like a fragile and unstable house of playing cards, it's best to get XP to a state where it's mostly intact and functioning and then back far away. On the other hand if your XP install is already collapsing under its own weight into a black-hole of bugginess, why not try SP2. It might be amusing, or it might force you to reformat your HD, if you've been trying to put that off for a while.

Unne, you say that XP is bad but I've never really had problems with XP. Can you kinda explain why it's bad if you don't mind?

its deleted some of my files, plus SP2 wouldn't allow me 2 view some of my video files

Buddy, I doubt that has to do with SP2, sounds like another codec dificulty.

I haven't done it because my Windows update got screwed up when I tried installing SP1. It don't work no more :spin:

I downloaded the SP2, and had a spike in viruses (7) within a few days. I'm going to assume it's just a bad coincidence. Still, I can't think of any other source of potential viruses. My email inbox is as stagnant as the FFV forum, so I almost never check it.

No problems so far, except that my copy of windowblinds doesn't show the skin I want properly. So now I have the classic windows skin. Other than that, no problems. I disabled firewall, antivirus check, and pretty much everything I could.

So BASICALLY I installed an update without using any of its features. Bloated? Like me after a workout, bay-bee!

I installed it. I didn't like it. SP2 basically treats you like you are going to mess up your computer at every move you make. I system restored it to before I installed SP2, and I'm happier because of it.

Windows XP + SP1 & 2 > Windows ME

As you can see, I use windows ME.

The only that's saved it from being smashed in many a time is scanreg /restore

No thanks. I'm having enough trouble with the default bugs.

I'll give you two examples. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, and AGP440.SYS.

Never had that happen to me. My XP runs fine with service pack 2. Before you go jumping to conclusions about how I'm just not using my computer properly or whatever, I frequently run resource draining apps simeltaneously with each other. Reason is a pretty damn good program once you figure out what you're doing with it :D

I've installed it and have had no problems whatsoever, if anything, I've only seen an improvement. After SP2 installation, Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D have yet to find spyware on my system.
