I'm pretty sure the White Mage from Final Fantasy 1 is a male. I guess they have the whole thing going where people want the character to be a female so even if they were intended to be male the fans portray them as a female. Such is also the case for one of the 10 Wise Men in Star Ocean (Jibril/Raphael I think).

Either way, it doesn't influence my decision.

It's actually debatable as to whether FF1's White Mage is a woman at all. The White Mage does kinda become a White Wizard which resembles...Jesus (ie. male) Unless the Mage get's a magical sex change (which is possible mind you, it is a mage after all) I think it's safe to say that the White Mage is a girly looking guy or a boy.

Hey, wait a minute. Indalecio may have red hair, wear a white gown, and if you want to stretch the truth a bit or go in at level 200 he may have weak magic, but he is in NO way a lady.

Maybe I should have been a bit more clear when I was mentioning the wiseman that is perceived as a girl. The wiseman I was talking about was not Indalecio, it was Jibril. Jibril is the one at the base of Fienal with the cloak. He goes into battle with Ruprecht and Nicholas (Camael and Zadikiel in the Japanese version). I know you probably got them confused because Indalecio does look like a lady with his long red hair, but he's all male. No one would confuse that after hearing his manly voice done by the talented Eric Burgman.
