Does anyone want to see materia again? I would but its not an rpg (pretty sure it isnt) so i dont think they would be able to make it work. So i vote no.

i think if SE really wanted to make it work, they'd find a way :rolleyes2

I think Vincent's gun would have slots (like the weapons in VII did) and you would be able to insert materia into them giving you abilitys and allowing you to fire different sorts of shots (assuming the game isn't an RPG that is).

I think it'll be great if they can incorporate a magic system into what's essentially a third-person action title. Sure, it hasn't been done before, but that's no reason to believe it can't be done.
Vagrant Story is an action-RPG, and includes shooting, melee weapons and magic into a coherent system.

They could just use a modifyed version of a kingdom hearts battle system and tweak some physics to make it more realistic. That was a thrid person game that used magic

It would be cool if there were materia slots for Vincents weapons and his armor -if he has armor and weapons you can select- where certain materia orbs could be locked into it. This would create elemental or supportive attacks and defenses and even for him to be able to use offensive spells.

I don't care what they decide to do with the game, but they'd better include the materia somehow.

Materia in weapons for different shots sounds cool.
Materia in armor for different abilities sounds cool.
Leveling up materia sounds dumb.

Ya know, it's entirely possible that Materia no longer works at all.
At the end of VII, a heck of a lot of Lifestream got used up...
It's possible there's not enough energy left to allow Materia to work. But we'll have to wait and see what AC says on that matter...

Exactly...it sucked so much i could not believe it. proof that even a game with a divine story cannot survive piss- poor gameplay.
ok i guess that is just an opinion.
Ok back on topic...no Materia, no ffVII. Just as ffX-2 suffered hugely with no Aeons, ffVIIDC i suspect will suffer too. still, will have 2 wait and see.

materia junctioned into vincents weapon should allow him to shoot element of materia
materia junctioned to his armor should give resistance to that element.
that's my opinon, and i agree with aeris

Definitely materia. I don't see why it shouldn't work almost exactly the same, HP Plus and Strength Plus should work easily enough, support materia could work pretty much the same too. Apart from just getting it to look good I don't see why spells shouldn't work almost the same either, though having a quick control system might be tricky.

I think it would be cool if the materia didn't gain skills, but the character did. For example, if Cloud equips the Fire Materia for x amount of time, Cloud will learn Fire, instead of the Materia gaining abilities.
Regardless, I want the materia back!!!
OF COURSE the Materia (and Sphere Grid) battle systems are my favorites I would love for the materia sysem to return!!!

that'd b good, the sphere grid, but a problem with that would b it wouldn't feel FFVII'ish, and more X'ish in a sense imo

They could make a materia system similiar to the force in Jedi Knight.

LoL, if you are going to make a yes/no poll shouldn't you use radio buttons? Just for fun I voted for both since I think materia makes a not too bad, not too great battle system. (FF7 is way too easy...)

I agree even if it is an armour or something but not as proper materia with the abilities, FFIX has the best system for abilities, they should have something similar to that but not FFX-2

must have materia....cure at least........*i don't spend money on potions unless i have to* that's not very often... :(

FFIX had crappy ones, have to equip different objects to learn different things? that'd mean you could have all this awsome stuff and b really far only to find out that you really want another skill, so you equip it, and it totally blows, that's my only disagreement about that type of learning

Materia is an important part of the story in FFVII, so maybe it returns in DC, or maybe not. I really hope so, cause how cool would it be to cast spells in a "shooter"?

i agree it'll also be awsome to summon with vincent and get your enimeis ripped apart. like with bahamut. that would be awsome!

As Bugenhagen shows in the original game, a planet without lifestream would die. I'm assuming that the entire game isn't based on a world that doesn't exist anymore, so I'm assuming that the lifestream will still exist. While the lifestream exists, mako energy will exist. While mako energy exists, materia will exist, whether it comes about artificially or naturally.

Getting rid of mako is like getting rid of water. Its always somewhere.

I hope Square uses a new materia system but also a skill tree in Dirge of Cerberus. Action oriented RPGs usually work best with skill trees where the character can learn new nifty moves.
