View Full Version : Star Wars SE -- wtf?

I just got done watching the star wars DVDs...and my only comment is: WTF?

- special effects is great
- they redid a lot of things. I think they got the current Bubba Fett to voice over the old Bubba Fett
- they got Ian McDiarmid to be the Emperor in ep 5, right?

but...in Return, I clearly saw Hayden "Anakin" Christensen in the final scene. Now, I say 'wtf' to this, BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE ORIGINAL ANAKIN LOOKED LIKE WTF HELP

So I'm downloading the original LD rips.

But this thread is discussion on all things star wars, and please to show me screen cap of that scene WHERE THEY SHOWED ORIGINAL ANAKIN HELP

edit: also, is Sidious the Emperor?

"they redid a lot of things. I think they got the current Bubba Fett to voice over the old Bubba Fett"

Yes, Temuera Morrison was included as the voice of Boba Fett :D

Greedo shoots first, as well. :irked: Way to suck, Lucas.

Didn't he always shoot first? Or are you saying he changed it so that he doesn't shoot first?

He always shot first, but missed because Han lunged. At least, that's how I remember it...

And yes, Sidious is the Emperor (and also the far-less-sinister-looking Senator Palpatine).

Greedo shot first but Han just sat there and Greedo (being the terrible shot that he is) misses despite the fact that he's sitting still and only about 3 feet away.

...since 1995, anyway.

In the original original, Han just shoots Greedo and walks away. He's perfectly aware that Greedo's going to shoot him at some point, and so takes the initiative, rather than relying on the possibility that a person who is perfectly capable of handling a firearm will miss a target only an arm's length away.

Of course, in the new version, Greedo does miss, ruining the scene and making Solo look like a guy with amazing luck, rather than a total badass.

But that's just my crazy opinion. :p

Yeah. I heard that he won't release the originals on DVD because he's embarassed of them. The children are crying George. I hope you can live with yourself for ruining a wonderful series.

You're right. Han did shoot first originally. They changed it in the 1997 SE, and Star Wars was forever scarred by its own creator. I know they're "his" movies and all, but he could at least release the original versions. Original as in the ones he didn't butcher.

This thread makes me laff.

Did they really stick Hayden Christensen in Episode VI? Something about that is just wrong.

Look, a relevant installment of Penny Arcade. You know those guys swear and everything.

Edit by Kishi: This is so backwards.

This thread is forcing me beyond free will to get the original laserdiscs and watch them, while uttering "WTF IS GOING ON" repeatedly.

Thanks a lot, jerks :mad2:

Yeah, I'm getting more and more tempted to do that myself. :smash: The stupid thing with Han firing is... well... stupid. I didn't even notice it, that's how observant I am

Han always shot first. Even in the book. They changed it for the 1997 re-make and left it in apparently. It pissed me off then, and it still pisses me off.

Yeah he always did shoot first. That was way cooler.
Not only are they ruining the movie's but they ruined some of their good games as well. Dark Forces was so incredibly awesome, and then they incorporated the whole jedi and the force thing. Then it was ruined.

Hopefully Lucas will die sooner rather than later, and then more sensible people working beneath him will release the original cuts.

I remember when I had to tell you that!

The Anakin stuff is interesting. I have this collection but have only watched New Hope so far, and it was the same as the SE in the theaters a few years back as far as I can tell.

I don't thing Greedo shoots first in the original. I have the tape so I'll check it out.

The thing with them showing Hayden's face doesn't really make any since.

Because Darth Vader didn't die as a young person like Hayden is. He finally died as an older man like Obi Won (Wan whatever the spelling is). So wouldn't it had made better since for them to keep the older fellow in their.

but when will they remake the Holiday Special?

Doomgaze
09-30-2004, 07:19 AM
You will note that the Anakin ghost was not a pasty white bald guy. Lucas has said that a force ghost of a redeemed Jedi would show at the age of their sundering from the light side.

darkchrono

I wonder what happens to all the Dark Jedi ghosts.

Lucas has said that a force ghost of a redeemed Jedi would show at the age of their sundering from the light side.
He also said that a person's sensitivity to the force is determined by Midi-Chlorians, but that doesn't mean I have to believe it. Star Wars has been warped so much now, it's almost embarassing to call yourself a fan.

Too bad they're being replaced with classical flutes in the next film, then.

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if that were true.

Nah. Meter sticks and duct tape. but WAIT! before you all throw stones irrationally, he uses that cool ORANGE duct tape. yeah, bet you feel bad now don't you...

Yeah, you'd think that when an entire fan base wants to stone you, the media reams you for it, and it goes so far as to inspire a hateful and insulting southpark episode devoted entirely to STOPPING the destruction of classic films, eventually you would wear through the tempered steel skull.....

SPEILBERG! WHY?!?!?!?!?!
LUCAS!!!! WHY!?!?!?!

He took out Yub Nub! :crying: :crying: :crying: Bastard! I'll never forgive you! At least I still have the originals...I mean, redoing the special effects is fine and good, but why does he have to actually alter the events in the film? That's just...gah!
P.S. Star Wars Battlefront is extremely fun!

And yet didn't remove the ewoks themselves... Way to suck, Lucas.

Starcrest
10-04-2004, 08:16 PM
ok if he took out the ewoks themselves, he'd have to remake almost ALL of that movie, if not all of it. they played an important part, and if u took 'em out, the rebels'd b screwed

You guys know that Spielberg asked Lucas if he could direct Episode III? Naturally Lucas turned him down; which is understandable. But on the flip side it's also a downer. No offense to Lucas, but the guy can't direct. He is doing a nice job tieing the earlier episodes into 4, 5, and 6 though.

If you guys want to see the worst perversion of Star Wars ever created look for the Star Wars Holiday Special. This wasn't Lucas, this was the corporate TV network who owned the rights to Star Wars at the time. It's enough to make any Star Wars fan crawl under a rock and hide.

Find it here.... (http://www.timewarptv.com/site/programs/Star_Wars_Holiday_Special/)

Ohh yeah, I hate Ewoks.....

Ewok Adventure < Holiday Special.

That's probably the only time I've ever use < in such a context. Cool. :D

I'm a big SW fan and I think most of the changes Lucas has made are for the better. But some of my friends won't buy the DVDs just because Greedo shoots 1st....WTF? Don't be so picky. :rolleyes2

And BTW, the Ewoks movies both OWN the holiday special. :choc:

Starcrest

But in my eyes, they can all(most) easily be overlooked.

There was a short period of time when I was pissed. But that time is long gone.
