Trouble beating Deathguise...

He always manages to kill me in about five or six attacks.

I'm at:

Zidane: lvl 49
Dagger: lvl 54
Steiner: lvl 56 (with Excalibur II!)
Eiko: lvl 55

Do I need to level up a little more?

you shouldn't need to level, and you really should be fine since you have both "healers" .... what i would suggest is to try to get more abilities learned ... like auto regen, auto haste, auto life, etc ... because your characters may not have great stats since you have excalibur 2 and missed out on alot of leveling ....
but the leveling may be tedious, so id stick with auto abilities.

Use Zidane for physical damage and be sure to use his limit breaks.
If you're equipped properly he can easily inflict 5000-9999 in damage.
Take advantage of the fact that you have to healers, dedicate Garnet
to healing and use Eiko's Holy attack or one of her summons.
And don't forget to use Steiner's abilities which are fairly strong.

After I got the Excalibur II, I went to Vile Island, and went through the friendly enemy sidequest.

those four characters have mastered all their equip and skill abilities.

Therefore, they have their optimum stuff equipped.

Eiko has the Tiger Racket because it teaches her Dispel.

Are you sure you have all of Steiner's abilities? You haven't mentioned whether you've done the Chocograph side quest. If you haven't, that means you haven't got Ragnarok which means you haven't learn Steiner's best ability, Shock.

Excalibur II allow you to learn Shock too... Man, if you have Excalibur II he should be pice of cake!

Excalibur II teaches Stock Break, Climhazzard and Minus Strike but not Shock. Ragnarok and Ragnarok alone will teach Shock.

ok i beat deathguise easy with ecko zidane garnet and vivi i just cast flare with vivi attack or grand lethal with zidane odin with garnet and curaga with eko use phionix if all but eko gets killed as well

odin sweet dose 8k damige to bosses bahamut only did about 3k damge

Good job though. I think it's horrible that they let you save after beating Deathguise, it makes Kuja far too easy. I've taken practice of not saving before him now, just for my own amusement.
