View Full Version : Life Imitates EoFF

My family and I were sitting in the lounge chatting last night, just about random topics. After a bit of banter, my mother happened to mention 'Soda'. My father quickly interrupted, 'You mean Pop'.

The discussion became a little more heated, with both insisting that their name was the 'correct' one. My parents come from opposite ends of the country, and obviously the beverage was referred to differently at each end. In the North it was Pop, in the south, Soda.

Anyway, this was all very exciting. A Pop vs. Soda debate in my very own living room! I couldn't stop myself from laughing at the sheer absurdity of it all. Unfortunately, my parents didn't support their respective drinks quite as tenaciously as their EoFF counterparts, and the topic was soon abandoned. Neither side had refused to back down.

Nevertheless, the situation was just too unusual not to post, so there it is. I guess this thread needs a proper topic, so here we go:

Do your parents call it Pop or Soda?
Has an EoFFish situation ever come up in your daily life?

My parents and I don't dicuss a lot now... they just want me to get some good grades and they wnted me to left EOFF but I said 'Why? minutes won't kill no one'! So they let me be here but my parents don't like to talk about those things... My father and I we talk a lot about the universe and astronomy and well i talk to my mom about grades, boys (telling her that I don't have a portuguses boyfriend, I don't!) and noting else...

We're so televisionteeterised that we just call it by whatever brand it is. Coke, Pepsi, etc, and it's corresponding flavour. I never knew it had a proper name.

My Nan calls it Pop!

There is that North/South divide in England where things take on different names isn't there. I call it by whatever the brand is personally.

My parents don't like softdrinks and they call it "softdrink". Usually you have to specify what you want. If you want a coke, they ask you pepsi or coca-cola? Pepsi. Diet pepsi or normal pepsi? normal. In a bottle or a can?

ARGH.

My grandparents who live to the east of me (We're talking about England here, folks) call it pop, but I guess I'd just call it a soda.

The word "Pop" always seems so Southern to me. I call it Soda, as pretty much everyone else in NY does.

Generally, everyone in my family calls it by the brand name. But I usually call it pop, cause soda mean soda water (so gross).

I grew up saying Pop, but everyone here says Soda, and I've picked it up.

I hate Southerners who call everything "coke". >o

Fizzy Drink.
Yeah, fizzy drink, fizzy or soft drink all work for me. More often than not, though, I just say the specific name of whatever drink it is, eg. Coke, Fanta, Pepsi, Tango, etc.

Neither. If it's Fanta, it's Fanta. If Coca Cola, then that.

And out of the two, soda is certainly the correct one. WTF is 'pop'? What's so poppy about it? It's a water-based beverage with CO2 -> soda.

I just call it a softdrink or by its brand name, but my parents call it Coke no matter what brand it is.

Everyone I know calls it soda pop. Or maybe just soda. Occasionally just pop.

Around here, I don't think anyone really cares. Which is why I don't usually partake in the Soda vs. Pop threads.

Actually I dispise "pop" because I never heard people call it that till I came here to hell...for all my life I always called it soda, as did everyone I was ever around. :D

On TV and crap I always here it called soda too. Anything that represents Oklahoma to me I dispise...and calling soda "pop" is one of those things...ugh.

My parents call it soda. So do I. Why? Because it IS soda. NOT pop! Pop is poop...
